Bill Maher - Milo Yiannopoulos Interview

newtboy says...

How's this?
Milo fired/resigned from Breitbart for his pro-Pedophilia statements...specifically when he said it was not abuse when he had sex at 13 with adults, not for his defining the word. I don't believe for a second that this was his decision alone. If, as he claims, this is only about haters bringing him down, why did they wait, and why is he giving them what they want of his own accord? He's not, he was disgustingly wrong, he knows it, he apologized for the first time in his life because of HIS interpretation of his own words, and goes on to pretend it didn't happen and is just a witch hunt.

Still not understanding what a pedophile is. God, this is frustrating.

I'll even give you the timestamp in the video 4:04
I did miss the spot where he mentioned he was 14 years old, could you point that out?

This Administration Is Running Like A Fine Tuned Machine

newtboy says...

You contradict yourself. You said he is delivering what he said.
If, as it seems, you admit he's failed to deliver on any of these promises, what do you mean by that?
So far, all I see him actually deliver is hypocrisy and ineptitude, no uncontested victories, no ability to unite, and a seriously dangerous plunge in international respect with nation after nation ignoring/violating treaties and expanding their militaries and territories in a blitzkrieg (China, Russia, N Korea, Israel, Iran, etc).

4weeks in and you throw in the towel? He's not emperor yet, but he's on track to get us there by declaring the media an enemy of America, the Judicial branch partisan political activists, international obligations and law negotiable, and nuclear war acceptable. 1 year and 11 months to go before a new congress and likely impeachment if that power hasn't been striped from them by then.

3 years and 11 months ago.

Give him time a fair shake. Heck not all his secretaries have passed.

HE is not emperor just a president.

He need House and Senate to form and move forward legislation.

Oregon Cop Kicks Biker in Chest

newtboy says...

Really? That broke his collar bone?! It seemed like he barely connected, but if he won in court, I'm sure there was medical evidence.
How much did the jury award him? I hope a lot. Not for the kick, but for ramming him when he clearly only noticed the cop at the light, and then he immediately put his blinker on and even gave an "oh crap" head hang right before he stops and gets rammed.
I wonder if the cop even had his lights and siren on before then, since there's no sound we cant tell. He certainly wasn't up close enough to be heard on a loud motorcycle until the end, nor was he making his presence known before then.
Even if the bike wasn't stopping, he wasn't endangering anyone, so there was no reason to hit him, possibly seriously injuring or killing him, in the first place. Speeding is not a capital offence. Intentional vehicular homicide should be, even if you wear blue pants with a racing stripe.

Smile!

From an article by Chris Hedges:

Robert Paxton wrote in “The Anatomy of Fascism”:

The language and symbols of an authentic American fascism would, of course, have little to do with the original European models. They would have to be as familiar and reassuring to loyal Americans as the language and symbols of the original fascisms were familiar and reassuring to many Italians and Germans, as [George] Orwell suggested. Hitler and Mussolini, after all, had not tried to seem exotic to their fellow citizens. No swastikas in an American fascism, but Stars and Stripes (or Stars and Bars) and Christian crosses. No fascist salute, but mass recitations of the pledge of allegiance. These symbols contain no whiff of fascism in themselves, of course, but an American fascism would transform them into obligatory litmus tests for detecting the internal enemy.

Christmas To Blind People

artician says...

His description of Santa made me picture a ZZ-top-looking mafioso in a bloodred, pin-stripe suite who chainsmokes cigars in public.

Gods I wish I had more time in the day. I absolutely want to take the audio portion of this and make literal illustrations per his description.

Lewis Black reads a new ex-Mormon's rant

bareboards2 says...

I think if someone is in a particular church -- or not -- or whatever they are personally drawn to -- IT IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS TO JUDGE THEM.

If they need it, they need it. Whatever happened to them in their childhood, or whenever -- the church -- whatever church -- or non-church -- fits them.

You are an atheist, right? I don't know if you grew up in a church or not. I don't know why it is so terribly important to you to be an atheist.

But it FITS you.

It is the height of judgmental righteous behavior to look at anyone else's choice and say it is wrong.

Am I a Mormon? No. I agree with you. How this church started is the height -- or the depth -- of religious absurdity. How anyone can choose this church as an adult? How can that be.

And yet. My brother -- who has a Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering from USC, military pilot, history buff, wide stripe of artistic urges and talents -- this guy chose the church in his early 20's. For his own reasons. Because he needed it, coming from our family of origin.

To quote Jerry Maguire -- it completed him. And like love, it is illogical and not for anyone else to judge.

You don't like religion being all judgey? I recommend you stop doing it yourself, and let people be.

Now, the Mormon church getting involved in the laws of the land? I got a big beef with that.

But as for individuals, making individual choices, for individual reasons.... I gotta say I don't see much difference between your judginess and any Catholic priest laying down "God's law" about how people are "supposed to" believe and behave.

You see that, don't you? There is no difference between your judgement and any religious person's judgment?

Leaving aside that the mormons are on barely on the legal side of sexism, racism and homophobia (to say nothing of the unfathomably dubious origins), if someone WANTS to stay in the church, well, that's their problem.

I'd probably think they're kind of an asshole, but whatever, maybe they have a nice (aka white, straight) community or something.

None of that explains why you think that anyone (good or otherwise) NEEDS the mormon church.

A sense of community, or spiritual well being can easily be had outside the mormon church (or any church for that matter). I admit that it would be difficult if your whole family was in the church, but it'd be difficult if your whole family was in the klan too.

Blues Brothers - opening scene

Them just out of the '70s, 1980s sensibilities. Jump the river with your cop motor and FIX that cigarette lighter. I need to watch Stripes now so I can watch the sexy military police have sex with the military fuck ups. Then I'll fast forward the decade and watch Ferris Buehler not go to school.

Film in the 80s taught me about anarchy and it taught me well. Oh wait, film as media is inherently anarchistic. Aw, fuck it. Society must just stink.

Sometimes, Canada just seems a more civilized place

SFOGuy says...

You know, I wish it wouldn't be. But I think American society is just more...savage...towards its disadvantaged---and that comes out, I think, in a sort of yell at the spouse, who hits the kid, who kicks the dog sort of way.

It's not a nice way to think about life the States. But I'm guilty of it.

Take, for example, just the question of basic health coverage---Canadians of all stripes and backgrounds know they have it, no questions asked. Or guns (this will be controversial). Even though the guy in the wheelchair was held up with guns, they are just not as prevalent as they are north of the border---and that changes the interpersonal dynamic of a lot of interactions with strangers.

I'm Canadian and live in Vancouver and I definitely can believe that he was treated so well by those around him. It certainly brought a tear to my eye to hear him talk about the generosity of people to those who are disadvantaged. I wonder, though, if it would be that different in the States. I get the impression, @SFOGuy, that you think it would. How come?
