Comey Testifies Under Oath That Trump Lied Repeatedly

bobknight33 says...

What I think this is not the point. The POTUS is in charge over the FBI and DOJ. POTUS is the boss. This was set up long before TRUMP walked on the stage.

POTUS is to enforce all laws. Apparently can let some slide as Obama did with marijuana and illegals. I'm sure Bush and Clinton did also.

Huge Indy 500 crash

AeroMechanical says...

Lifting your visor is a sign to the track marshals that you aren't seriously injured so that's all to the good, but it seems to me he lifted it a little too soon. I'd be inclined to keep it down until the debris has stopped flying around and my car has stopped sliding across the track.

Anyways, it's a good thing that in the 60's and 70's they averaged one fatality for every two races or so, and these days it's a big deal when someone is seriously hurt (like Bourdais in qualifying), and a huge deal when someone is killed--like name cars and turns and stuff after them kind of a big deal.

Trump pushes aside NATO ally and Preens for the camera

At the end of the day 3 million don't mean jack.. Get over it, Hillary lost. All that matter is Electoral College. 304 to 232 Hillary got her ass whopped. Historic land slide

Trump is not the best candidate but still better than Hillary.

Quit being a crybaby snowflake and move on.

BTW, you might read my other post again, I specifically wrote that I was not accusing you of such blatant racism, you seem to have misunderstood again in your zeal to argue.

Greg Gianforte, Trump and the First Amendment

""Fox reporters would lie with him, but they didn't"". ??? On what grounds do you state this ??? Fox is more fair and balanced than CNC/MSNBC and others.

HE was not expected to wing by a land slide It was to be close, which it was.

" Republicans have totally sacrificed their morality " Are you kidding. Democrats are the party of Debauchery. Democrats are a joke. Republicans have slipped to a new low but democrats promote the worst of society.

Democrats are American but they represent the blinded sheep degenerated by its politicians.

newtboy said:

No.
It shows us a pitfall of early voting. Most, the vast majority of votes, were cast before he assaulted the reporter.
He was always expected to win by a landslide both before and after he lost it on tape and blatantly lied about it assuming the Fox reporters would lie with him, but they didn't.
Because of early voting, last minute surprises like this barely matter....unless he gets the maximum sentence, which is appropriate. If ever there was someone the courts should use to set an example with, it's a violent elected official.

That's not to say he would have lost if early voting wasn't the norm there. Republicans have totally sacrificed their morality and rationality on the altar of partisanship. Like Trump said, they could murder people publicly in cold blood and not lose votes. This means they're fine electing people who display this kind of total lack of self control and poor decision making processes along with a proven willingness to bold faced lie to the public to represent us as long as the tie they wear is red.
It's far less about Democrats, the minority there, than it is about a total lack of civility, honesty, or basic self control in Republican leaders and their voters accepting that, even relishing it.

And btw, Democrats ARE Americans....since you're confused again.

Jimmy Johns Robbery

AeroMechanical says...

My advice to would-be robbers of fast food restaurants: use a replica gun. The cashiers don't give a fuck, and you'll get in less trouble when you're caught.

Also, if you think you might get in a gunfight. You want to load your gun before you get there.

I dunno that he's stupid for jamming his gun. That happens. It would have taken him a second or two to unjam it, so if he were pointing it at me, I wouldn't be trying to think of using that advantage against him unless I was pretty damn sure he intended to shoot me or someone else.

On second watching: The robber is doing a lot of things wrong when he cocks his gun, so he doesn't have much experience with them (I have next to no experience, and I can even see what he's doing wrong--holding it wrong to cock it, not releasing the slide to let it return on its own spring force, which is probably the reason for the jam). Of course, all that probably makes him more dangerous rather than less.

4 Revolutionary Riddles

newtboy says...

3) it moves backwards because the force is applied to the entire system/bicycle. The wheel going backwards turns the gears and chain, rotating the pedal 'forwards' (rotating it in reverse). Because the wheel is much larger it travels much farther back than the pedal rotates forwards, even with 1:1 gearing the pedal actually travels backwards slightly compared to the ground, but in higher gears it gets much easier.
It's because the tire is so much larger than the crank, that makes it easier to rotate the tire than the crank even at 1:1, so it goes backwards.
It's counter intuitive, but I actually checked my work and yep, my bike went backwards in all gears....no sliding needed. Try it.

visionep said:

I guess the hint for these is the rotational test that they show at the first.

1) A sticky object that would let go like a wall crawler that climbs down a wall would create this effect. (see below)
2) You can't. As you approach infinite speed it would get very close. (see below)
3) The bike will move forward. (see below)
4) The outside parts of the wheels that overlap the rail. Also if the train has a flywheel that is larger than the wheel size the bottom of the flywheel would also always move backwards faster than the train was moving.

1) He says "what object is inside?" so I'm not sure a liquid would count. Also a viscous liquid would flow a slow rate and would probably not stop and start. You might be able to get a viscous liquid to stop and start if you had fins, but that still might just move slowly or gain enough momentum to roll fast without any flow.

2) A little excel calculation shows that the average velocity approaches twice the initial but will never hit it.

attempted m/s - total time - average m/s
1 100 1
2 50 1.333333333
3 33.33333333 1.5
...
200 0.5 1.990049751
201 0.497512438 1.99009901

3) I'm not sure if the parameters of this experiment are explained sufficiently.

If it is allowed to slip then no matter the mechanical advantage a hard pull should always be able to get the bike to skid back and defeat friction.

If the bike is not allowed to slip on the ground then I don't understand how it could ever move backwards, the only options would be that it doesn't move at all or it moves forward.

If it can't slip then the ratio of the pedal to the wheel is what is in question. Bikes only have gear ratios higher than 1 and the crank is smaller than the tire so the tire will always rotate more than the crank thus the bike should move forward.

How to Make a Microscope From Scratch

bamdrew says...

I want to like these, as I enjoy the concept, but find the guy's presentations are always both deceptive and entirely superficial.

'Microscope from Scratch! Watch as I stumble through making a glass-like substance again in a way that is so incredibly ass-backwards its surprising I don't burn down my garage, then watch me copy a paper microscope with paper I technically made using a bunch of equipment other people let me use, then finally watch me use glass (which I purchased and nearly failed at making into simple beads) in that microscope to eventually show you a ridiculously fuzzy image of a stained microscope slide I also purchased. Thanks patreons!'

NYC's Best Burger, Explained

newtboy jokingly says...

Yep, and I've been with her for 25 years.
I'm quite reasonable, except when I'm spoon fed bullshit being called fact, especially scientific fact, extra especially when it's crafted as a backhanded insult designed to make me feel bad for my actions and guilt me into mirroring yours.

She would never do that, she knows I don't let that slide, and that I notice details and understand science and would ask her to defend it with accepted facts.....impossible with bullshit....or be contradicted.
You know that too, unless you've forgotten our past conversations.

No single terror attack in US by countries on Trump ban list

bcglorf says...

@newtboy,

No, it's about law. Warren Jeffries people did all that, on a smaller scale. They weren't their own country, even though they got away with it for decades. Law.

Forgive my lack of familiarity with him, but your telling me he (on a smaller scale than Texas), stopped paying taxes, and instead collecting them. Started up his own legal and justice system. He created his own borders within which the police would not dare set foot because it would be a death sentence for them. And after he'd done all this the US military itself failed to remove him as well?

Or are you meaning not just scale, but severity and all the other rather meaningful extremes of sovereignty that the Taliban and Al Qaida achieved? It's the same then in the sense that me punching you is violent just me killing ten people is violent, but in another sense they are nothing alike...

No, but they couldn't indiscriminately bomb Houston and any large gatherings either....not even if Spencer might be there. The first American civilian they kill will start a war...a real, legitimate war.

Your not embracing the analogy. Spencer's terrorists are still killing American civilians every week, outside of Texas borders. The American military is just corrupt enough that as long as its democrats/republicans dying,(whomever we choose to not be in power) they let it slide because it shows the need for the military to 'protect' the country.

You need to take a harder look at Pakistani politics to see just how powerful Al Qaida and the Taliban's control over the tribal areas has been.

More over, all of the above definitions of state within a state violence and jihad doesn't require war as the response to acts of war. To invade Afghanistan to prevent another 9/11 is dubious at best. Even the Kissinger's of the world wouldn't count the value of that trade off, losing a couple thousand Americans to an attack each decade or so is 'acceptable' loses.
Call it the price of freedom and carry on. The real trick was that if the Taliban and Al Qaida were so tight with Pakistan's military and intelligence services, how concerned should America be that the Pakistani proxies in their tribal regions and Afghanistan are so keen to target Americans. That lead directly to Pakistan's nuclear arsenal being a big enough concern with that pairing that maybe it was time to tell Pakistan they had to end their little dance with terrorists hitting Americans and they had better make a choice who they are going to side with in the Jihad that was already being waged for 2 decades.
