Official Trailer for Dune 2020
Interesting, especially given the fact that Pink Floyd was supposed to do the music for the original Dune (Jodorowsky's version). Also, the absolute god who is Chris Foss was supposed to do set design.
Superheroes look ridiculous without special effects
You'd be right. Even this clip had a lot more to the set design than most effects-heavy features.
Movie magic! etc. etc.
I'd imagine quite a lot of todays TV & Movie acting is like that, even more traditional television. So much more acting on green screens and pretending to do things for the CG than we think.
The Best Movie Sets Ever Made
What they didn't mention about Hobbiton was that it was actually built twice.
The first time (for the LOTR movies) they built it as a traditional temporary set, designed to be taken down after filming. The land then reverted to a sheep farm. But when they did the hobbit movies they actually built the set out of stone and wood, so you can actually go there and walk around the town.
Star Trek Continues E02 "Lolani"
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
The dedication to their craft is pretty amazing. I would watch this for the set design alone. Episode 1 is here: http://videosift.com/video/star-trek-continues-greatest-tribute-of-nerd-devotion-ever

Mad Men was pretty good. Jeez their period set design is just amazing.

Tennessee Ernie Ford - 16 Tons (Go-Go Version)
Nice. I prefer the original, but I like the set design here and the inclusion of dancers.
Saturday Night Live: Beauty and the Beast

that sure is a lot of makeup, costumes, and set design for a relatively short sketch... funny, but man, the effort and cost
Nah, they just used stuff from the Disney stage show. 1 day rental for 5 costumes, not all that much. The toughest part was probably putting together the walls and chandelier, which also could have come from storage somewhere.
I'm still not a big fan of sketch comedy, but this is one of the better ones I've seen lately. And I'm a huge Beauty and the Beast fan.

Gone are the days when you can hit gold with a couple of boxes glued to the front of your pants.
Nice to see you E. Been a while.

In The Loop - Clip
Prior to filming, Armando Iannucci gained access to the US Department of State by flashing a simple photo ID to a security guard and saying "BBC. I'm here for the 12:30." He then spent a few hours walking around taking pictures for his set designers.
America's "Christian" Heritage
it is a rather "loud" set design. by just looking at it, i would guess they are talking about cleopatra or something ancient egyptian
Excalibur is returned
I love the set design, costumes, music, acting, cinematography; everything in this movie is so grand.
Rhapsody in Blue (1930)
Great find. That is a beautiful set design. My biggest complaint is that they didn't play the full 16 minute version of Gershwin's masterpiece. That's one of my favorite musical pieces from that era, and every single note is pure genius. It still got my upvote, of course. Scenes from movies like these are *obscure classics.
Opera and Classical collective? (Sift Talk Post)
I don't think there is a lack of material for this idea. I'm thinking clips of composers bios and interviews, animated clips with classical music, pieces about the production side of theater (costuming, set design, choreography) historical videos, etc. Just send me an invite when it's up and running!
