Neil de Grasse Tyson on the afterlife. Very moving.

The hotline Hollywood calls for science advice

Fairbs says...

I don't think it's negativity towards scientists or negative stereotypes of scientists; it's that the scientist is seen as having control over great power and it would be an interesting movie if they just went around fixing things; it has to be EVEEEL.

More Evidence Trump Can't, Or At Least Won't Read

shagen454 says...

In Trump's mind, he is the BEST reader there is. That is why he can't read. If big Oil and gas wants a pipeline, that's all there is to know! Why read long reports from the EPA or environmental scientists? ("God dammit, they're trying to get me to read and comprehend these things again - lets get rid of em!") Big Oil needs a hand out, and that's what Trump does, he gives/receives handjobs from the nastiest of the nasty, or if he wants it and it is unwilling - he grabs it like a big ol' wild animal/monkey man that he is. TRUMP = ORANGE MONKEY that huffed too much corporate paint.

My dad was a CEO of a huge company - a self-made man (rip), he was dyslexic - but at least he learned about his disadvantage and figured out how to somewhat overcome it and use it to his advantage. What I'm saying is he tried to learn and overcome and succeeded. Trump is just a munchkin who was handed everything; an ego-maniac in great need of my favorite chemical for delivering pure ego-death to humble his ass down for the rest of his life and expand in understanding and awareness. I posted an animation video on here about Trump getting "it" but even then (as in the video the conclusion was): he may just be too stupid.

ok....i come to you for your opinion on my new favorite political scientist.this is the man who predicted brexit and trump, and his ability to depoliticize complex political and economic dynamics is just beautiful.(or maybe i just like the fact that it sounds like i am getting schooled by shrek)

i have watched pretty much every one of his lectures, and i cannot find a flaw in his logic.he appears to have his finger on the pulse of our global economic situation.

but economics has never been my strong suit.i have always struggled with economics.so i come to you,hat in hand, and ask if maybe my adoration is misplaced.

totally worth the time:

Wish I could say you weren't 100% correct Brian. The confluence of events of late had the scientists moving the doomsday clock up 30 seconds today. Fuck

glenn greenwald-no evidence of russian hacking

newtboy says...

Keep in mind, it's not JUST the CIA making these claims, it's an unprecedented combined report from (I think) 14 separate (EDIT: 17) intelligence agencies. Yes,they may be colluding but it's not likely.
Recall, the intelligence reports leading to the Iraq war were edited and misstated by the Bush cabinet and we've now seen that the full reports were not certain about evidence of WMDs.
Putin's own MO is evidence that, if there was Russian government involvement, it was at his direction. If it were done behind his back, there would be a number of computer scientists gone missing by now.

In short, don't blindly trust any agency, but don't distrust conclusions reached by all intelligence agencies combined, or pretend that the public report is all they have....most evidence possible would be classified (like a bug in Putin's office recording him ordering hacks, we would never hear about that proof).
Should we be skeptical, yes, should we dismiss the reports because we don't get to see classified proof, no. Should we find a way to declassify the proof, absolutely, the public's trust in the nation's intelligence community hangs in the balance.

Zero-G Experiments on Earth: The Bremen Drop Tower

Worst Ninja Movie Ever?

moonsammy says...

I'm having fun envisioning other movies taking a cue from this one and having the characters' wardrobes state their role. Jurassic Park geneticists in lab coats with "Scientist" on them, Rocky wearing shorts that say "Boxer" across his ass, James Bond in his "Spy" suit...

Bill Nye tours the Ark Encounter

CrushBug says...

From that opening, part of the difference, is that Ken's belief is the end of his journey. For scientists, belief is the start of the journey. We think something is true, so we go out and try find out if it is true or not.

If only he was a Scientist .

Sid the science kid is also one of those 97%ters.

Keep trying to fool the world on that climate hoax.
Better yet get some real science.

Tesla Predicts a 2 Car Crash Ahead of Driver

harlequinn jokingly says...

Why research grants of course. Everyone knows that's where the big money is these days. Why just last week I saw a climate scientist driving around in a new Maserati.

(There is a grain of truth to it though. It's not unheard of to bullshit one's way to their next research grant).

1/4-1/2 of us here believe scientists 'made up' climate change for money (somehow, I've never heard an explanation of where that money comes from)

Tesla Predicts a 2 Car Crash Ahead of Driver

newtboy says...

I wish, but probably not in my lifetime in America.
Many people here equate control of their car with control of their lives and refuse to consider any alternatives. Keep in mind, 1/4-1/2 of us here believe scientists 'made up' climate change for money (somehow, I've never heard an explanation of where that money comes from), those people aren't likely to cede control of their car to a computer made by computer scientists.
I'm not one of them, though. I'm with you, I want to be able to get in my car, tell it where to take me, and go to sleep until I'm there.

ChaosEngine said:

Yep, driving a car will be something you do recreationally at certain areas (racetracks, off road etc)

But no more monkeys piloting fast moving lumps of metal on open roads. Personally, I can't wait for my car to drive me home from the pub!
