Honest Trailers | Halo

ant says...

I only saw its first episode. Visually nice, but meh. I played Halo 1 briefly. I'd rather rewatch Red vs. Blue series.

Rachel Maddow "Last night the Republicans got shellacked"

VoodooV says...

Ugh
>> ^VoodooV:
Oh Rachel, so smart, but so dumb.
did it ever occur to you that the two party system is BAD. Our founders did NOT want Parties,
One party may be less bad than the other, but the system of parties is BAD. How many people, on both sides of the aisle, voted not for Obama or for Romney, they voted for democrat or republican.
Don't you see a fundamental problem with that....with the party being more important than the person...than the country.
The two party system needs to go. ban all parties. vote for the person, not the party

Yes, because it's impossible for an educated person to say something dumb and perpetuate a system that continues to divide this nation. While I may agree with Maddow most of the time, she's still a pundit just like the others.

and to @hpqp nah, when you're electing anyone, you have to pick a person because of their character and convictions. If you're just voting on ideas, then you might as well go back to voting parties. Dem and Rep alike both represent an idea. How many people couldn't stand Mitt but voted for him anyway because he was a Rep. How many were disappointed in Obama but voted for him anyway because he was a Dem.

It's a shitty system. If you can't stand Mitt, don't vote for him, if you can't stand Obama, don't vote for him...write someone in. You have more options than just red vs blue.

Samuel L Jackson " Wake The F*ck UP " for Obama

DrewNumberTwo says...

THIS. I'm sick of this partisan horseshit. This isn't about Red vs. Blue. This is about America becoming the exact opposite of what it's supposed to be. We torture, we assassinate, we hold people indefinitely without trial or even bringing charges. We we spy on our own people, curtail free speech by having free speech zones, and send in the police to break up peaceful protests. We're the bad guys now. It's shameful and I'm against any person and any party who supports such actions.

Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity: Fox's Spin on Occupy Wall Street

Edgeman2112 says...

Once you paint this as a political battle, you're completely missing the point.

This isn't about red vs blue; this is about how our system sucks. Both groups can agree on that.

Hannity and Coulter label this as a liberal thing right off the bat because that's all they know.

Thanks! For me, it's not blocked. I've thrown my two cents in the discussion :-)

How are politics in Australia at the moment? Anything you'd like to see changed?

The comments on this video are interesting - http://videosift.com/video/TDS-Dancing-on-the-Ceiling

The vid itself is probably as blocked for you as it is for me... but the nyt "how would you fix the debt problem" survey answers seem right up your alley. If you are able to draw any conclusions about the differences between responses from the U.S. reds vs blues and between the U.S. and the rest of the world, I'd love to hear them.

I do, of course, realise that sifters are hardly a representative sample of their respective countries.

Some of Netrunner's other recent postings will probably also interest you, on the same basis.

Bill Maher - Charlie Sheen And Class Warfare

flavioribeiro says...

From Wikipedia: "A false dilemma (also called false dichotomy, the either-or fallacy, fallacy of false choice, black and white thinking or the fallacy of exhaustive hypotheses) is a type of logical fallacy that involves a situation in which only two alternatives are considered, when in fact there are additional options."

Thus, by definition "a choice between a moderate right-wing party and a hard-right nationalist party" is a false dichotomy. I agree that FPTP voting is the major reason for this in presidential elections, which creates a two party system on other other spheres of government. But without seeing the underlying false dichotomy, the general population will stay under the illusion that their votes represent a significant choice, and will keep playing red-vs-blue.

As for me being part of the problem, I respectfully disagree. I'm not an American citizen, and I'm not residing in the U.S. I maintain that the U.S. balance sheet looks ridiculous and current levels of government spending are not sustainable whether you like it or not.

>> ^NetRunner:

Did you even read the comment you're responding to?
The problem is that there's no left in this country's governance at all. It's not a false dichotomy between the parties, it's just a choice between a moderate right-wing party and a hard-right nationalist party. I feel pretty strongly about wanting to have the moderates over the fascists, even though I'm not particularly happy with the moderates.
Why aren't there more than two choices? Because that's just how first past the post voting works. More than that though, it's because there's a really big propaganda machine that constantly demonizes anyone who's even slightly left, and constantly pushes the idea that all suffering in the world is the fault of government, and it'll all get better if we just vote in people who mouth those same words while they cut taxes on businesses, slash government aid to the poor, and make worker safety laws a thing of the past...
Incidentally, you're part of the problem as a person who proclaims that deficit "spending" is the issue. The problem in this country isn't the government's balance sheet, it's high unemployment, and ridiculous concentration of wealth coupled with the growing formalization of the idea that our corporate rulers may commit any atrocity they please with impunity.

Fuck the party system. It's like religion--it lets lazy people have the decisions made for them. It promotes ignorance and stupidity. Parties are a terrible idea. It should be about the individual and about the individual issues, not red vs blue.

Sarah Palin Book Signing - Meet The Fans

campionidelmondo says...

>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:
Ah - yes - the fine art of propoganda. The left's well-thought out and intellectual criticism of Palin to date so far consists of "I hate her because she's stuuuuupid!" And this fine, rational, argument from such elegant, politically interested persons is now being elaborated to include the ever-so fair message of, "And if you like Palin, then you're stuuuuupid!"
Yawn. I think Palin has a way to go before she's a serious candidate. I'm not sure if she'll ever get there really because she just may be one of those people who can't bridge the gap between local and national politics. But the left's propoganda? Pht - idiotic bilge for idiotic people.
Penn & Teller's show proves that if you've got a camera and some time that you can find the lunatic fringe of any group. I dismiss this vid as an an example of focusing on the outliers and trying to portray them as the majority.

Oh I hope she won't be able to bridge the gap. That's what the gap is for. To keep underqualified people on the local side where they can't screw up as bad. You probably know that better than anyone, but you decide to argue for Palin simply to spite the leftists on this site. Just like all the simple fools in the video, you're caught up in partisan bullshit and can't see past red vs. blue.

You're republican, I get it. You're most likely well off, middle to upperclass, and want to keep it that way. Working class problems don't concern you. The healthcare reform was redundant in your eyes, since all the important people can afford first class medical attention anyways, right?

Richard Dawkins vs. Bill O'Reilly - 10/9/2009

shole says...

Red vs. blue shift is used to measure the speed of objects relative to earth, whatever their distance.
I think what the sarcastic post meant to illustrate was the shrouded cloak of sciencey words and ideas used to give (false)credibility to the intelligent design movement in the eyes of the common-man(tm).

Most infuriating thing about these Bill'o "interviews" is that they never touch on the issues at hand.
You can't jump between biology and cosmology for excuses and never give the chance to defend either front.
If he had his mouth stapled shut and gave the fair time for Dawkins to explain him the basics of biology and evolution, he would lose the argument then and there and he knows this.
I don't really understand the masochism of Dawkins when he knows he'll never be given the opportunity to get his word out with bullies like Bill-o.
