Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Actual Gameplay

Psychologic says...

>> ^redyellowblue:

Looks nice enough, This reeks of console, and the modern notion "players need their hands held". The obsessive cluing the player on whats going on. From glowing guns, boxes, doors; to the button diagrams that never disappear. I also get steamed up about those action cut scenes that choke an enemy for you. ughh.

I'm not sure about the animations for the special moves, but the highlights and other "clues" can be turned off in settings (thankfully).

I've been messing around with the leaked beta for an hour or so. It definitely needs some optimizations (drags my comp pretty hard) and some work on the key bindings (doesn't detect some of my extra mouse buttons) but I generally like it. The music and atmosphere are great and the conversations system seems to work well.

I haven't had much chance to test out the combat system yet so I can't comment too much on it. So far weapon accuracy has been terrible, which is actually a compliment! I was afraid there would be too much Rambo action, but it rewards stealth pretty heavily. I won't pass judgement on the cover system until I test it out some more.

E3 2011: Prey 2 - Holy goddamn, Blade Runner, anyone?

I see, so after you capture the bounty it gets teleported into the spirit realm and you have to follow it and fight some alien spirits using your spirit auto-cannon and spirit nano-implants. I mean, it's either that or that they decided to dump that whole Navajo-rambo thing they had going on, which seems highly unlikely seeing as it worked so well the first time around.

Zero Punctuation: Dead Space 2

This game was a disaster. What a waste of $60. Stupid story, no genuine terror aside from jump scares, sluggish controls, poor collision detection, terrible facial animation, linear, lacking in variety, lacking in bosses... The formula of the game is 1) enter a room 2) fight off 3-5 waves of enemies 3) wait 10 seconds for the door to the next room to open 4) yawn 5) repeat.

Unlike Yahtzee, I really dug DS1. It was scary because you were alone and underpowered. In this game, you are Rambo and there are NPC's everywhere. In the first game, the sound design gave you subtle distant growls to let you know monsters may strike at any moment. In this game, a bombastic soundtrack beats you over the head any time a monster is about to strike. I actually played a good portion of the game without sound, listening to my ipod. In the first game, you are this Gordon Freeman style silent, solitary figure who only reveals his face at the end. In this one, your annoying character talks and shows his poorly animated face constantly.

The multiplayer is also a mess. It's a hackneyed, poorly thought out rip off of Left 4 Dead. (Valve really should make a Left 4 Dead in space game) Not only is the multiplayer horrible, but you need an EA license to play it, which means that whoever buys my used copy is going to have to pony up even more money to EA. Fuckers.

Empire: Hollywood and the War Machine

just added Green Zone, Rendition, and Redacted to my Netflix queue.

Also, it's interesting that those scenes were removed from Charlie Wilson's War... I thought that was common knowledge that the Taliban was armed/trained by the CIA to fight the Russians in Afghanistan at the time.

Although a far cry from a cinematic masterpiece, even Rambo III (1988) pointed out the fact that no one will win a war in Afghanistan.

I couldn't tell if Michael Moore liked Red Dawn, or was being sarcastic.

Rambo, the sulcata tortoise, being silly with Quiggly, fox.

Left 4 Dead 2 - Zombie Survival Guide

westy says...

Well what's strange is L4D 1 is so lacking in content and the game play is incredibly predictable after a short amount of time. If servers were handled like other valve games (rather than how console games r traditionally done) then l4d 1 could have been really fun with lots of custom maps.

Another fundamental problem is that if you play with friends the game is incredibly easy (on pc)evan on hard settings , but if you play with random s its incredibly difficult due to the lack of communication that happens between on-line randoms and the tendency for people to rambo, I also find that the game play in terms of players doing well or bad is compleaty chance bassed. (I belive that the people that enjoy this game ether are not aware or don't particularly perceive of the core game mechanics that denote succeed fail outcomes I think for people who are aware of it the game becomes incredably frustraiting.)

I don't think its a bad game but I think valve have missed an opportunity to make a top 10 all time game , I think the reason why people like it is as a casual / social game it can play very well , but this should not blind people to an objective view of the core game play itself , after all most games can be incredibly enjoyable if you play them with friends in coop even games that are actually pretty pore.

I wish they could remove move more of the AI in multilayer and have a mode that is more pvp bassed , I think what would would be cool is if you added in an RTS element to the game play so a human is playing as game director + humans as the lead zombies. Or have 2 people V 30 zombi humans .

all in all There are so many ways I think valve could make this game into something absalutly amazing and cator to more player tpys (as well as the existing core that enjoy this game as it is)

At the moment its an above average coop game that I find is generally over hyped. I'm going to wait out to see if l4d2 is more of the same or if they have introduced more dynamic game play.

I hope that valve work out a way to better support community maps than they did for L4D , For me custom maps in l4d would have really spiced up the game and removed the predictability of it all. granted they added in support eventually but its really poorly implemented and the way users find servers is terrible for a pc game , more than suitable for a casual console game though .

FOX News Host Not Happy With GI Joe Movie's Internationalism

nach0s says...

I wonder why he's trying so hard to be funny. He mostly comes off as creepy and short of breath. I wouldn't buy a toaster from this wheezebag salesman.

And people don't 'risk their lives to get here' because they like GI Joe or fucking Rambo. They risk their lives to get here because they can make more money here. They can make enough to support a family here or back home. What a cunt.
