You're so grown up for a 1 year old! Congrats on the first well done year as a sifter. We're richer for having you here.

Happy anniversary! Today marks year number 1 since you first became a Sifter and the community is better for having you. Thanks for your contributions!

Is the "end of the world" near? Is life as we know it coming to an end? (User Poll by burdturgler)

overcast has a eugenics flair to his end solution.lets thin the herd a bit so we dont get eliminated by uber'evolved-virus.he actually has a point,it just has that "brown shirt" feel to it../shivers.
as for myself i like to think its gonna go down like the book of john states.not because i believe in a mushroom induced hallucination, but rather to watch the faces of all the bleating sheep when the "rapture" comes.dumb-founded christians roaming aimlessly in the streets mumbling " i was a good christian wasn't i? why didn't the lord take me?".
now THAT is entertainment.
meh.../shrugs.end of the world?or end of humanity?
somebody already quoted carlin but it deserves to be said again.
"the WORLD ain't going nowhere...WE ARE.pack your bags folks we are going away".

I hate to be a party-pooper, but.. seriously? Are you for reals?
You must've not looked - as of today there are only 70 videos named/tagged with "douche" (http://www.videosift.com/search?q=douche) - it might be a little subjective, but my opinion is that it's nowhere near enough to warrant the creation separate channel. Hell - me, I thought a 1500+ might not be enough when I searched for my first choice of a channel to create. And that's not going into the subjectivity of making a decision who's a douche as well as the ambiguity of the term itself.

I am seriously for reals!

70 tagged so far, with some remaining to be, and many more not yet even sifted! And then ponce's point: As for the number of videos tagged douche already, I feel that few are going to tag it without a channel.

We have to face the reality that in this world today, there are many douches. The douche-levels are rising rapidly. We see the effects of douche almost everywhere, and no where moreso than on the internets.

There are 492 videos in the Comics channel, 481 in Islam, and 311 in Grindhouse. I think *douche could surpass at least 500.

My responses below:

a) You actually do see the # of comments still; it's just over on the right side now.

b) Hmm. All videos should have thumbnails, even if it's just the logo of the video host or a sifter icon. Can you give me a link to a video that doesn't have any image at all? If such a thing exists (other than the few seconds after submission that it takes for the thumbnail to get generated) something might need to be fixed, but it really shouldn't be happening.

Ah, great! Thank you!

Two minor points that I think are valid:
a) You don't see the number of comments in the overview anymore (and there are a lot of videos where I just read the comments and don't watch the video, so this number is of interest)
b) Videos without thumbnails can't be run inline in the page listing, because there's nothing to click on.

As much as I hate to be a party pooper, I'm going to dissent and say that I'm not as much in awe about the new UI as the rest of the sifters. Not very intuitive, but very busy. Things sliding in and out, shifting the contents up and down, icons appearing and disappearing... it's like someone discovered scriptaculous and just went crazy with the effects.

I appreciate that whoever did this did it with the best intention, and a lot of work went into this, but being slidey and cool doesn't trump usability. (It does gyre and gimble in the wabe. And mimsy were the borogoves...)

My big wish for 4.1: Add an optional "static" layout, minimizing javascript effects.

And please move the "login" link out of the "New user?" menu. I was looking for over two minutes for that darn login link.
