John Oliver - New Email Probe
Okay... Clinton did some questionable things.
Let's talk about Trump's e-mails
Evidence pointed to a Putin - Trump connection before, but now it's a lock.
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/cover_story/2016/10/was_a_server_registered_to_the_trump_organization_communicating_with_russia.html
This article is long to explain all the technical details, but the upshot is that one of Putin's closest allies runs Alfa Bank. Alfa Bank has been communicating in secret with Trump during the course of the campaign. Traffic peaks during pivotal campaign moments (conventions, debates, scandals etc.) The server was set up in a way that one computer expert said was the way organized crime does it when two different groups want to collaborate in secret. Once the first findings were published on Reddit, the Trump server suddenly went offline.
A week later, a new Trump server came online and the very first communication from the Internet to that new server was from Alfa Bank. This cannot be random, the Trump server has an unpublished address, so only someone who knew the exact address could contact that server.
I think it's very clear Trump is receiving instructions from Moscow. Probably due to his huge debt load. Draw your own conclusions.
@bobknight33 do you REALLY want a Russian agent in the White House? That's the sort of rhetoric you applied to Clinton, but it turns out it's actually TRUE in Trump's case.

I think it's very clear Trump is receiving instructions from Moscow. Probably due to his huge debt load. I'd say with 99% confidence that Trump is acting as a Russian agent.
And here I was talking about Trump in a Black Mirror episode... if what you say is true and what they say about Russia being involved in manipulating & hacking the election - then it may be a literal real life Black Mirror episode if Russia hacks the election so that Trump wins.
Sarah Palin Crashes & Burns
^ @ChaosEngine: I think she makes perfect sense -- she just has some hang ups in regards to her own gender. (She's also really dumb.)
"Leave Hillary Alone, Bullies"
Sarcasm. Reference to an old meme regarding Britney Spears?
"Aww, c'mon guys, give her a break. Anyone can be out of commission.... for weeks on end... whilst in the heat of battle for the highest office in the land. No press conferences for nearly a year? No scheduled campaign events for days upon days? No statements, no answers, no accountability, no problem. Layin' low to run out the clock before November, but you're SEXIST for noticing it."
Sarcasm and calling out Hillary and the media for using misogyny and sexism as a crutch rather than ignoring the sexism like a good woman should in this man's world. Like Palin, who mans up and doesn't let her emotions show. (I don't believe in this viewpoint, but I believe Palin does.)
"And you're MISOGYNIST for questioning a female's fitness. Good thing media didn't hound the crap out of '08 candidate John McCain for his decades-old military medical records or I'd guess them to be hypocrites."
More sarcasm in regards to feminism, while calling out the hypocrisy of the media going after McCain's medical records, but excusing Hillary.
"Leave Hillary alone! All that email-evidenced yoga, and wedding planning, and cookie-baking-grandma-duty wears you out. Believe you me."
Sarcasm and misogyny in the form comparing Hillary's email scandal to typical female activities such as practicing yoga, wedding planning and baking cookies. Not exactly sure why she's focused on making fun of typical female activities. Palin clearly has some emotional issues she needs to work out. Maybe she wishes she was a man? lol. Anyway!
"Heck, even those of us claiming to be fit as a (seasoned?) fiddle, hit bumps in the wellness road. Even I. Especially I. (Remember Piper's middle name is "Grace"; mine isn't.)"
Is she referring to Trump as the "seasoned" fiddle? No clue.
Also not sure who Piper is... Piper Laurie from Twin Peaks? Piper Wright from Fallout 4? Pied Piper? Likening the Pied Piper to Jesus Christ, who by "grace" she is saved? Help me out here.
"Rock-running recently, I tripped over my own two feet and crashed & burned face-first. I recovered with the doc's SuperGlue, and now any man who asks "what happened?" I'll refer to as just a mean ol' SEXIST bully."
I think she's appealing to men by referring to stitches as "SuperGlue", sorta like duct tape fixing everything. She should have said the doc's duct tape. That would have been funny, actually. But for real, I think Palin may have an inner desire to be a man and not a "weak" woman.
"Glad for Hillary's protective media's precedence. The next woman running for POTUS has no need to answer to much of anything, for we've got weddings to plan, and Down Dogs to do, and cookies in the oven! So just leave us alone, boys."
Almost full circle to earlier in the message where she lists a bunch of typical female activities: wedding planning, yoga ("Down Dogs" = downward facing dog, a pose in yoga), and baking cookies.
I guess she's claiming Hillary is just a whiny girl so she might as well just do a bunch of dumb girl stuff. Meanwhile, Palin is doing "man" stuff like jumping on rocks, then she goes to the hospital, gets her head superglued together and back out on her feet doing more man stuff.
I'm gonna go bake some cookies now. That sounds like the best idea Palin's ever inspired me to do. Bake some motherfuckin' cookies.
Also, everyone should practice yoga and if you're going to get married, doesn't everyone help with the planning on some level? Why is Palin so dumb?

Brian Cox refutes claims of climate change denier on Q&A
We will all enjoyed the freedom and comfort of fossil fuel since the industrial revolution. At some point, we all have to pay for the gigatons of mess that we're pumping in the air.
The smart money is on clean energy as oil bounces back above $40 per barrel after the global supply glut had it below $30. Coal investment has tanked since oil peaked in 2009 and solar plants and wind plants are often more cost effective over their lifetimes.

@kingmob The right-wing conspiracy of convenience says that the data has been adjusted to heighten the urgency and panic and perpetuate their scientific fraud. This is a misunderstanding of flux adjustments that used to be made to climate models in the 90's and early in the 00's:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_circulation_model#Flux_buffering
Recent improvements in modelling equations mean that they no longer rely on flux adjustments, but hearing that they had to made adjustments at all sounds sketch.
Because the "hockey-stick" model was an overshoot based on the peak in 1998, deniers tend to either:
a) Argue that the "warming hiatus" between 1998 and 2013 disproves AGW theory. This fallacy disproved itself in the last 2+ years as global surface and ocean temperatures have exceeded the 1998 record year on year.
or:
b) Attempt to discredit scientists arguing that their own funding depends on the alarming data that they publish. Far-right conservatives continue to demonize scientists as a cabal of billionaires working in concert to sway public opinion. If that was true, then the whole hiatus period sure didn't help their cause, but the graph hasn't moved.
This is sound science, and denialism is collapsing under the weight of its own bullshit. At the time of posting, NOAA said that July 2016 also marked the 15th consecutive warmest month on record for the globe. That is the longest stretch of months in a row that a global temperature record has been set in their dataset.
and people like this are in charge of things...
NASA is corrupting the data.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Trailer #4
Michael Bay will hit his peak when he makes a film composed completely of single frame cuts. When they're selling buckets of Ritalin in the lobby, instead of popcorn, you'll know he's achieved his magnum opus.
Dear Future Generations: Sorry
Pretty much what @Mordhaus said.
There's no way to sustain the numbers we have today without changing 99% of people's habits, most effectively starting with breeding habits.
With the need for only 10% the power required today, you would never need to use nuclear power at all, or hydro. You could supply it on wind and solar with a small fossil fuel peak power generator system.
The planet MAY survive....but I don't count only extremophile bacteria as really 'alive'. Worst case scenario, we could be Venus 2.0, in my eyes, that's not alive.
actually, its not at all like that. the planet has food and land in surplus for everyone, but there is huge waste. Some of it is the price of technology and the modern life style, some of it is avoidable, reckless waste, but its not only a matter of "if there were only less people". That wouldnt make trawling the ocean any less destructive, or nuclear waste any less toxic. The planet is going to survive no matter what, the question is in what form, reducing the number of people on the planet only changes the time it takes to ruin the planet if the people that remain are going to continue irresponsibly consuming and contaminating as before.
We’ve hit peak lens flare. Here’s how it started.
Lol, peak lens flare. Cool to see the history of it!
Ren & Stimpy: Never The Same Face Twice
I didn't have cable or satellite TV (just OTA networks) until a bit after the peak of Ren and Stimpy, but I did see some of the episodes later as re-runs when I was in my late teens in the late 90s.
Magic Nose Goblins sticks in my head (and on the bottom of my table).
And the commercial for "Log" may well deserve some of the credit for my disdain with rampant ads and consumer culture.
Brilliant subversive show.

He gets props for representing 75-90% of the forum posters, depending on concurrency. I know because I was a forum mod (blue poster).
Some of those peak hours/days are rough. Thankless job, really. Props to the MvPs and other helpful people, my homies. Couldn't weather the storm without the legitimately helpful people; the core of the decent portion of the community; the unentitled, do-gooders of the gaming world: the superheroes. The individual in this video, whom I respect (despite my better judgement) is the villain in this series.
The Warcraft IP is a behemoth with a thousand beating hearts incapable of true destruction. If WoW were a Magic: The Gathering card it would have "Indestructible" and "Can't be the target of spells or abilities" printed on it. Sticks and stones -- words ain't spell damage. YOU LOSE. Good day, sir.
A particular take on what went wrong with Islam
ive never been to the middle east, but for various reasons had friends from several different countries in and around the area. i think the answer is simple: muslims, like christians, jews, mormons are not all alike (ok not sure about the mormons!), and even if you have a st augustine or a ghazali saying thats how it should be there will always be those who disagree, vocally or quiet like. Hes right that the culture changed, and he's right that its tragic that arab scientists are basically the butt of a joke, but i think its difficult to ommit that the peak of arab science also coincided with a peak in their power and resources. How many african nobel prizes are there in that period? or from indigenous peoples? Im not saying they are stupid, just that its difficult to get an award for cutting edge top notch science when you are at a serious deficit in resources.
OK, but the question, even if they are just harnessing the atom for peaceful means, still stands---What about Al Ghazali's prohibition against math?
Personally and culturally?
Obviously, they've rationalized it (again, let's assume every single intended use is peaceful. Unlike, for example, Pakistan's)---
I'm a bit curious what that looks like inside a person's brain.
woman destroys third wave feminism in 3 minutes
Hrm...
"whatever you humanist fuckheads are arguing for"
"I'm sorry, did I trigger you? Did I piss in your safe space? Aww."
Why is it that people that go out of their way to offend suddenly complain when it comes back at them?
I had a pretty reasonable response brewing to the post where you came up with the fuckhead bit, and trashed it because reasonable didn't seem what you were interested in. So why waste my time trying to reason with a person who is unreasonable right?
And hey, that's my presumption. Mebbe I caught you on a bad day, mebbe I'm being the ass here, it's entirely possible.
But this conversation is pretty much as pointless as vocal 3rd wave feminism. It's going around in circles, people occasionally getting mad, and the majority of the sift probably peaked in and decided they couldn't be fucked wading in among the 10 or so people dedicated to perpetuating the "conversation"... And of course it's not really accomplishing anything, we're all still being relatively civil to each other even if a bit terse...
The battle for equality isn't won, but it's pretty close (well, at least in the west, just forget about the majority of the worlds women who still live in conditions that make the 50's seem blissful...). 3rd wavers aren't fighting massive social injustice anymore, they are battling things like #gamergate and feedback against Sarkeesian, Tucker Max or that Return of Kings mob (who seem to be the biggest trolls on the planet but w/e).
Seriously, they are spending a lot of time and energy arguing with the lowest common denominators (who by and large love the attention). There used to be a time you could safely ignore the village idiot because, hey, he's a fucking idiot. Now, any dumbass can post on the internet and people will descend on them like the proverbial plagues of Egypt, followed shortly by supporters showing up. Not because those one offs are indicative of even a significant minority in broader society, but because it generates plenty of online hype to see "some guy" say something fucking awful and then the sides line up to start yelling at each other...
So I'm not overly concerned if we end up agreeing because in the grand scheme of things, it's also fairly pointless. We're both entitled to our opinions and they seem to be vaguely in the same park aka "equality good, hate and oppression bad", seems like a good place to stop.
Being dismissive and pretending that everybody who disagrees with you is angry or 'bailing out' will not get us closer to agreements. I don't think.
woman destroys third wave feminism in 3 minutes
Many self professed feminists believe it is about hating men too, but I assume "no true feminist" would ever do that right?

I wasn't trying to wilfully misunderstand you, but rather to pursue my whole contention about any political/social argument:
Individual People and specific arguments over ideologies always.
When the reverse is true and ideology is placed before people or the specific merits of an argument, the result is dehumanising and anti-intellectual (even if by the slimmest margins sometimes).
That's not to say that, where mutual understanding already exists, ideological terms are completely useless. But the moment individuals disagree, those ideological assumptions are going to get in the way of a productive dialogue.
My whole point I guess is that this seems rather anti-humanist if you will pardon the irony of taking an ideological position.
If as a humanist one believes that the optimal way is for everyone to be judged only on the merits of their individual words, deeds and capacity.
Rather than by culture, race, gender or some other involuntary and/or irrelevant factors.
Assuming you agree in principle with that definition of humanism in terms of goals, then what we are arguing here really is collectivism vs individualism.
You are suggesting we can get better results by pushing the "right" version of said ideology and suppressing the "wrong", correct?
I am arguing ultimately that we seem to get better results in the long term, by encouraging free and critical thought and allowing all ideas (no matter how egregious) a fair fight.
This puts me contrary to many tenets of the various feminist ideologies and concordant with others. Sometimes wildly so.
If I want to try to be a good humanist, I have no choice but to try and understand each on their own terms.
When someone describes themselves as a "Feminist", that could mean anything from "kill all men" to "women should have fundamental legal equality".
It seems almost as redundant as racial and cultural epithets, it tells me very little really important about you or how you really think, to know you are Black, or White or Asian or Polish, Spanish etc. etc. It's just another excuse to put an idea above the person in front of you or to not have to think too much about ones own.
i.e. Collectivist thinking.
I think this may represent the very antithesis of intellectual progress.
However I am a Hegelian and I just defined a Thesis-antithesis relationship............ That means the next great breakthrough should lie in the synthesis of the two.......
................
Collective individualism! All we should need is a mass movement of free critical thought and.....bollocks.
It's over people, we have officially peaked as a species! I'm calling it
Ironically, a lot of the more hardline early feminists didn't like the term feminist at all because they didn't think it went far enough.
but...OK FINE. I'll dignify the intentional misunderstanding to get it out of the way. My brand. My opinion. My perspective. Are we done with the whole "that's just your opinion man" bs now because I don't see how it's relevant.
That's your association not mine . I'd rather take the risk and hope I can make some positive associations with the word thanks rather than surrender it because some people think it is about hating men.
