We almost died…

Grave Diggers “Can Hardly Keep Up With Demand"

newtboy says...

Your point?
States with highest gun violence rates
Mississippi -- 28.6 per 100000
Louisiana -- 26.3.
Wyoming -- 25.9.
Missouri -- 23.9.
Alabama -- 23.6.
Alaska -- 23.5.
The list, and trend continues.
Republican states consistently have higher gun death rates, the top ten states for gun deaths are all Republican led….so much for blaming Democrats.
Republicans don’t care. The #’s point this out horrifically and consistently.
Republican states also don’t care about keeping the lights on or having running water in their cities anymore…I’m looking at you, Texas and Mississippi. Florida has abandoned education in favor of far right wing indoctrination for children (maybe with field trips to Epstein island with the ex president if they’re good and pretty and will sign a binding NDA).

(Pretty chicken shit to claim Dems don’t care, while Cons block every attempt they make to solve the issue, but you do you.)

Um….did I EVER advocate gun free zones, or even indicate I think they’re possible in America? I don’t think so. Why must you always fight windmills and paper tigers? It doesn’t make you sound sane.
It would be excellent…if it were possible. No one is hunting inside city limits, if no one had guns, no one would need guns. It’s not possible unless we take drastic, unconstitutional actions (or change the constitution like the founders intended).

There aren’t enough gun regulations when a schizophrenic person can legally buy as many guns and as much ammo as they wish, and so can murderous gang members who served their sentence/probation.

They DO need MUCH better enforcement of existing gun laws, we agree there. If laws were applied consistently regardless of the perp, there would already be less gun crime. The problem with that being prisons are so overcrowded they simply cannot house more, and most police seem to not be interested in or capable of legal crime-preventative policing, so making illegal gun possession/use come with harsher sentences simply isn’t going to happen….and has never worked to stop crime.

They also need to remove “loopholes” (intentional back doors) that allow mentally ill and violent criminals to legally purchase firearms with absolutely no background checks and no paperwork. Seems to be a no brainer, but your ilk calls that “terkin’ er guns” (I have to believe because you know you’re all insane and can’t pass mental health screenings), not sane regulation.

No surprise you think more draconian punishment is the answer….how’s that been working out? Not great. Countries that focus on rehabilitation of convicts instead of simple housing for profit have recidivism rates near zero, unlike the US.

Using a gun in the commission of a crime already comes with pretty harsh penalties, btw….often turning misdemeanors into felonies just by having it, not using it.

Prison reform is one part of any functional answer, not more, bigger, worse prisons for longer sentences. Funny, you thought the same when Jan 6 defendants started being rounded up and denied bail…odd you cared about all those ANTIFA and BLM activist though. 😂

Philly PA is a Democrat city/ state..
Democrats don't care. You #'s point this out.

2016 277 murders in Philly
2020 500 murders in Philly.
1990 500 murders in Philly.
2022 300 murders 2/3 of the way.

You want Philly to be a gun free zone?

Sorry can do that.
There are enough gun laws.

Need to make the punishment for improper gun use that causes these occurrences extremely harsh.

OMG!
Texas passed an anti communist law, Texas government code 557.021, which defines a communist as “ a person who commits an act reasonably calculated to further the overthrow of the government” and bans them from appearing on the ballot.
That is the entire Republican Party who put secession as part of their platform, tried to overthrow the government on Jan 6, etc. Get ready for deep blue Texas. 😂

Biden Approval WTF

JiggaJonson says...

I did. And I'm happy with the way things are going generally. At least, regarding Joe Biden.

Big picture: there's a lot of terrible things happening in the world. My own half-assed-survey based on personal experience: most people don't follow passing laws and what the executive branch really does with any kind of seriousness. They may self-proclaim they "like reading the news" But most people who say things like that are content with a surface understanding of what's happening.

I mean, you know inflation is up AROUND THE ENTIRE PLANET right? https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/06/15/in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world-inflation-is-high-and-getting-higher/

---------------------------------
---------------------------------
---------------------------------

Besides Israel, other countries with very large increases in inflation between 2020 and 2022 include Italy, which saw a nearly twentyfold increase in the first quarter of 2022 compared with two years earlier (from 0.29% to 5.67%); Switzerland, which went from ‑0.13% in the first quarter of 2020 to 2.06% in the same period of this year; and Greece, a country that knows something about economic turbulence. Following the Greek economy’s near-meltdown in the mid-2010s, the country experienced several years of low inflation – including more than one bout of deflation, the last starting during the first spring and summer of the pandemic. Since then, however, prices have rocketed upward: The annual inflation rate in Greece reached 7.44% in this year’s first quarter – nearly 21 times what it was two years earlier (0.36%).

Annual U.S. inflation in the first quarter of this year averaged just below 8.0% – the 13th-highest rate among the 44 countries examined. The first-quarter inflation rate in the U.S. was almost four times its level in 2020’s first quarter.

Regardless of the absolute level of inflation in each country, most show variations on the same basic pattern: relatively low levels before the COVID-19 pandemic struck in the first quarter of 2020; flat or falling rates for the rest of that year and into 2021, as many governments sharply curtailed most economic activity; and rising rates starting in mid- to late 2021, as the world struggled to get back to something approaching normal.

---------------------------------
---------------------------------
---------------------------------

The pattern of rising and falling inflation happened because that flu that "will just go away like a miracle" ended up affecting the whole world's economy in a somewhat predictable pattern when it comes to inflation. Maybe the people who only casually glance at the news when they are flipping channels don't know better, but come on - you know that inflation rates in the United States are not specifically Joe Biden's fault right?

You still think they are? OKAY - HOW? Exactly. Point to legislation passed or not passed and the timeline of inflation in the United States.

Something like "Here you can see inflation beginning to spike, and it's the result of XXXXXXXXX that Joe Biden did, here's exactly how what he did affects inflation in this way."

Who wants to bet $20 that I'll get some response like that? What should the odds be set at if I am 100% certain all I'll get is just some snarky bullshit from an old bullfrog.

Chaos erupts at LA City Hall as council votes to ban homeles

newtboy says...

Her final statement is unbelievably clueless…Fear is precisely why they created this legislation and the only reason why it has any support at all.
A more accurate statement would have been “we will not legislate based on reality or reason, and certainly not with compassion or empathy.”
Criminalizing homelessness, which for 98% of homeless is not a choice, is not just draconian, heartless, and insanely expensive, it also doesn’t address the issue one bit. After paying to remove and/or incarcerate them, they don’t disappear, they get out of jail or get pushed out of the neighboring communities and are still homeless.

Also, California prisons are insanely overcrowded….how exactly do they expect to jail every non compliant homeless person? By releasing the violent career criminals, murderers and rapists that are pretty much the only ones left in Ca prisons? Great plan.

There are few places in LA that aren’t excluded by this ordinance. Anyone that babysits children or any office building with any daycare offered by a resident becomes a “day care center”, and any home schooled child a “school”.
It reminds me of some local anti smoking ordinances that banned smoking almost everywhere in Davis except the center of a major intersection….which clearly wasn’t a good place for smoking breaks. I think it was struck down.

In 1933, the Nazi Party passed a Law "against Habitual and Dangerous Criminals", which allowed for the relocation of beggars, homeless, and the unemployed to concentration camps. Just saying.

Lies and racist stupidity from a stupid racist liar.

Yes, with a license you can have full auto military weapons. You’re just wrong, as usual. Because they’re so highly regulated you never hear of legal full auto weapons being used in crimes, but they are obtainable. Thanks to the left, kits to turn legal semi auto rifles into full auto are no longer legal to sell. The right opposed making full auto mod kits, ghost gun kits, and 3d printed unregistered guns (semi or auto) illegal to build or sell.

Who told you that idiotic racist lie? 98% of killings are done by thuggish black people? (we all know exactly what you mean when you say “inner city thugs” bob. You don’t hide the racism at all, not one bit.) Just another fact free racist lie, just like when you tried to say 98% of crimes are black on black crimes and I proved that to be a total lie. Just obvious racist fantasy. Cite your source, I bet it’s the KKK, white nationalists, or neonazi sites again, no one else would make up such nonsense and actually think people might believe it. Only crazy right wing cultists are that delusional and gullible. Just so incredible racist and stupid, you fuckwit.

Not only are “inner city thugs” (we know the word you wish you could use) not committing 98% of gun crimes, the most gun crimes per capita don’t happen in cities, definitely not 98% of them by FAR. Here’s some citation for you to ignore and dismiss because it contradicts your racist fantasies-

https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2022-06-07/is-new-york-city-more-dangerous-than-rural-america

https://johnjayrec.nyc/2018/05/24/databit201801/

Yes, more gun crime happens in cities where approximately 85% of the population lives. Per capita counties are usually worse, almost always if you count deaths from external sources. Red counties and states consistently lead with the highest gun deaths per capita by far. In 2020, firearms were involved in 79 percent of all homicides and 53 percent of all suicides. Mississippi, Louisiana, Wyoming, Missouri, Alabama, and Alaska have the highest firearm mortality rates in the country, according to the CDC. Here are the 10 states with the highest gun deaths per capita:

Alaska (24.5 per 100k people)
Alabama (22.9 per 100k people)
Montana (22.5 per 100k people)
Louisiana (21.7 per 100k people)
Mississippi (21.5 per 100k people)
Missouri (21.5 per 100k people)
Arkansas (20.3 per 100k people)
Wyoming (18.8 per 100k people)
West Virginia (18.6 per 100k people)
New Mexico (18.5 per 100k people)
Notice a trend?

No bob, most shootings are with legally purchased guns, many bought legally by nut jobs that should be banned from buying them. It’s another lie from you. Cite your source…but wipe it first, I don’t want to have to read through your dingleberries. (I feel I need to explain because your comprehension is non existent…I’m saying you got it out of your ass).
This case, the seriously troubled kid waited until he was 18 to legally buy the gun he intended to use to murder people. If he had to wait until he was 21, it would have helped. If he had to pass a mental health screening, there would have been no Uvalde.

The right is willing to lie, obfuscate, try red herring false deflections like you just did, try racist deflections like you just did, try nonsense conflation, exaggerate to the extreme like stating a 21 year age limit for semi auto weapons or a mental health component to the licensing application process is taking your guns…anything but addressing the issue.

The right is also 100% opposed to funding mental health facilities/programs to help the underlying mental health disaster we have in America (that single payer health care would cover). Gun deaths went up 35% 2019-2020 under Trump and have dropped precipitously under Biden.

Just idiotic obvious racist lies here from you, nothing more, no facts, no ideas, no solutions, not even correctly identifying the problem, but scapegoating a group you clearly are prejudiced against (although you’re too cowardly to admit it, but there’s zero doubt).

Shame, you cowardly racist liar….if only you were capable of shame you would end yourself in contrition.

You can not have a military automatic weapon.

2nd 98% of killings are done by inner city thugs and yet the left only focus on suburban , school, theater killings .

Left wants to make it harder for people to buy legal -- The real problem is the illegal guns that are doing most killing - destroying families . cities. soles

The left has no desire to truly address this issue in their cities.

Posted 2 days after the ordinance failed to pass.

This follows the ending of “project roomkey” a federal (covid) program that assisted homeless with hotel rooms and more permanent housing, now defunded.
These voucher programs for hotel rooms are nothing new. Forcing businesses to accept them at 2pm for all empty rooms is, not letting them refuse to rent to undesirable (crazy, filthy, drunk/high, loud, with aggressive dogs, etc) tenants is new. Neither stood a chance of passing.

This was a political stunt, likely by the right, never intended to pass. It’s not hard to get enough signatures to get local ordinances on the ballot in Ca. Getting them passed is another thing altogether.

Another “L” bob. Not even worth a downvote, just sad this is what you cling to.

All those non-scientific Old Testament, New Testament resurrection, Heaven & Hell, post-death promises stuff I leave it as Faith. I don't classify a baptised church-goer as Christian.... CIt's stupid taking in the Bible in strict literal sense. So many contradictions, the truth is the Bible was oral history passed down to generations of ancient writers, made inconsistent by translations and interpretations and other cultural & historical factors. A sensible person that can think criticially need to understand the backgrounds and intent. Don't be lazy and don't buy wholly into words coming out of pastors' mouths. You have people with lots of personal, ulterior motives to call themselves Christians. I don't buy any of those crap... nor care for any association with those people. Jon’s Response To Ted Cruz’s PACT Act Lies

luxintenebris says...

here's the rub...

this is Stewart's issue - has been for over many years - and not caught him lying or misrepresenting this (or anything else w/consistantcy)*. in the past, he's had to champion the cause to get it passed: GOP being the snaggy hags. so, go w/him knowing the bill, what's in it, and hold his observatons valid.

on the flip side, it's plausible Cruz had a defense but he is the reason they read 'Don't Cry Wolf' to kids. [become an incessant lying punk and when you need people to believe you - it's another lie to them.]

discretionary vs mandatory smells of an obfuscation (the fist bumping after the bill was nixed didn't help the believability either). also the gall of a Republican saying they fear 'out of control spending' is rich w/irony.**

don't believe Cruz. believe Stewart. just prudent that way.

NOTE: if the Red would highlight the problems w/the bill, either by speech or postings (not f'n' opinion)***, it would go a long way to make their side to look honestly honest. and no, they aren't known for their veracity. or compassion. i.e. prove it pedro.

Channeling Founding Fathers, youth shrinks standing armies

newtboy says...

Yeah, not supporting veterans, a Republican goal, couldn’t be a factor.
Refusing to weed out racism, rapists, Nazis, and terrorists, a bill Republicans are blocking, couldn’t be a factor.

Edit: Also Republicans just blocked even voting on a bill to cover cancer treatment for soldiers exposed to toxic burn pits. No way that’s a factor….directly withholding lifesaving treatment for vets with cancer 100% out of spite because a scaled back build back better bill passed. Just outright cruelty and proof they don’t care about veterans one bit, proof to those considering joining that they cannot expect healthcare or other promised benefits, and that their suffering and death are pawns for the right, things to blame on Democrats when it’s convenient, things to completely ignore when it’s time to act to support injured vets.

Lol…morally corrupting youth…like Gaetz? Like Epstein and Trump? Like Judge Roy? Like the Trumpist sedition caucus voting against supporting victims of child sex trafficking? 😂

Fat, overweight (not sure of the difference), low employment, undereducated…all worse in Republican crowds than Democrats, and all are reasons to join, not reasons to avoid service. What?!

There’s lots of reasons, some mentioned above, some not. Neither party serves veterans as they should, but Democrats have definitely been working harder on their behalf.

Biden Approval WTF

newtboy says...

Are you really that ignorant? (That’s a rhetorical question, I know you are)
1) watch Argo. There were multiple attempted rescues, starting within days of the revolution.
2) read about Reagan who made a secret, illegal deal with the terroristic Iranians to not release the hostages until after the election to hurt Carter’s chances, then he later sold them weapons in another illegal deal to pay for another secret illegal war with the Contras. If a Democrat did anything near that, he/she would be (rightly) shot as a traitor if not legally then by some nut job….when Cons do it the anti American crimes are ignored and cons celebrate the treason.
3) Also read about the year+ of negotiations by Carter that actually gained their freedom on Jan 20 81. Would have been much sooner without Republican interference. Carter was the one who initially “held” (seized) those $8 billion of Iranian funds, and stopped buying Iranian oil costing them billions more…all legally, unlike the sneaky, illegal, back room collusion with and payoffs to the terrorists Reagan tried, knowingly and intentionally extending the hostage crisis for his personal political gains. The “deal” wasn’t struck on Jan 20…the Iranians delayed the release at Reagan’s request in exchange for promises of special treatment from president Reagan.

Like Biden, Carter actually solved a problem created largely by Republicans despite Republicans doing their utmost to work against America. Gas prices dropped nearly 10% in the last month and continue to drop despite a massive shortage world wide thanks to Russia and Saudi Arabia. Republicans have fought against every effort to lower them, voting against all mitigation efforts in a unified “fuck your gas prices” block.
They even voted against a bill to force oil companies to stop price gouging because it would have dropped prices significantly the day it passed, also helping inflation significantly, and cons REALLY don’t want prices to drop under Biden, certainly not before November.
It’s just like when every Con just voted to protect and keep neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and violent extremists in the military and federal police forces because they don’t want their voters to lose their jobs. Keeping their power is far more important to them than helping the country, and their main methodology is to try to hurt the country then blame the president….odd since they excused the former president from any and all responsibility for his lack of leadership and absolute horrific disaster that was his last year in office, from 1 million dead to -3.5% GDP to millions unemployed to rising inflation to supply chain failures to disastrously ruining the reputation of our elections to dividing the country horrifically to actually trying to overthrow the elected government by force…all for his own personal gain….and you whine that Biden hasn’t fixed everything yet!?

Pretty dishonest for Republicans to do everything in their power to stop any attempted plans on inflation, gas prices, or hostile foreign powers, then blame the president they blocked from fixing the issues they caused. It’s not weak leadership, it’s an anti American party with veto power and a chip on their shoulders willing to hurt the entire nation rather than let Biden (and America) have a “win”.

Now…how did Trump handle it when foreign powers kidnapped and dismembered an American? He covered it up, made excuses, declared the Saudi prince innocent (and Trump was recorded laughing about how he “saved his ass” over that murder)….then his son in law was given a $2 billion payment for future services his company was completely incapable of supplying.

So let’s measure Trump….
Nice guy, no. Moral, no. Ethical, no. Honest, no. Smart, no. Loyal, no. Trustworthy, no.
Fickle to the utmost, yes. Weak leader, yes. Treasonous, yes. Dictatorial, yes. Narcissistic, yes. Criminal, yes. Anti-democracy, yes.
Most American deaths-yes. Worst unemployment, yes. Worst economy, yes. Most domestic terrorism, yes.
Worst president ever by far….unequivocally by every measure. He actually made idiotic GW look benign by comparison.

Weak leader, yes

He failed to get out hostages. I believe 52+ week
He did tried and mission failed. Mission mishap - 6 dead
Finally on his last day, last hours negotiated agreement that included 8 billion bucks of held money.
This issue had a looming cloud over his presidency.

Like Joe Biden>
Failed to control inflation
Failed to do much about gas prices.
