Congressman Yells "Liar" At Obama During Health Care Speech

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

I keep seeing people spouting the term "neolib" around

I’m use the word ‘neolib’ as a generic malediction the same way neolibs use the word ‘neocon’ to refer to any/all things conservative.

We’re progressives

Progressive is a word liberals coined because they didn’t like being called liberals anymore. But 99.9% of the time a self-proclaimed ‘progressive’ cannot be distinguished in any substantive way from a liberal on policy matters, politics, voting habits, or rhetoric.

Winstonfield, what do you base your assertion that a significant portion of the uninsured are voluntarily choosing to be uninsured on?

If a person can afford insurance, but they choose to buy other things instead, then they are VOLUNTARILY choosing to be uninsured.

Studies have shown that the bulk of the uninsured are working, healthy adults (40/60 male/female) who earn $40,000 a year or more between the ages of 18 and 40. As you yourself stated, cheap catastrophic medical coverage is readily available for people in this group.

Statistics also show that just about every household in the U.S. has 2+ television sets, DVD players, cable or satellite, video games, 2+ cars, junk food in the pantry, eats out 2+ times a week, & spends several hundred dollars a year on entertainment such as ball games, movies, and so forth. Such persons don’t need government subsidized insurance. They need to learn how to sacrifice a few luxuries and stick to a budget.

Once one removes 'fear' and 'racism' from conservative playbooks, one removes 90% of what conservatives have to talk about

I have found that such accusations are more representative of the accuser than the accused.

Defend Bush. I dare you.

You make the common mistake that many neolibs do. Simply because I'm clearly not a fan of Obama, it doesn't conclude that I'm a 'defender' of Bush. I have no problem with people who want to call him a liar. Bush is a politician. They’re all liars, cheats, crooks, and scumbags who should be ridden out of the country on a rail. That includes Bush, Obama, and everyone else. All I said was that the middle of a nationally televised speech is not the place for interruptions and rudeness. That goes for Bush, Obama, and everyone else. Bad form Wilson, and bad form all the booing Democrats.

Republicans are ready to come to the table in a biparistan fashion, to work on health care reform. I say "To bad", they had their chance.

Obama’s got supermajorities in the house & senate. Use them. The majority of the country doesn’t like his plan because it’s vague and expensive. If he pushes it through anyway, then he & the Democrats are going to have hell to pay in 2010. I hope not a single Republican votes for this stupid plan when it comes up. Let the Democrats own it. If it is such a ‘popular’ plan, then let them take all the credit. The reality is – the plan is NOT popular and neolibs want Republicans to take some of the blame.

The President has some really good ideas. He explains them as a professor would on an issue

If by that you mean he blathers vague, non-committal platitudes then sure. :eyeroll: Not a single thing in his speech last night was new. There’s 6 different drafts in congress, and Obama isn’t talking specifics about ANY of them. America wants specifics – and Obama’s still trying to blow sunshine up everyone's skirt as if he was still in an election campaign. Cram the platitudes Obama and start talking facts. Talking like a professer? Pht - yeah - a Liberal ARTS professor maybe. He sure isn't talking like a physics professor, and that's what America needs right now.

Good luck, have fun. I'll go pull my armor out of the pantry and ride off to fix the rest of the world's troubles.

I'm not removing shit. You keep fighting those great injustices, brother. I'll tell Sarah's Mom.

In reply to this comment by gwiz665:
That's exactly what I've done. I think she broke "the rules" when she requested it be removed, so I mock her by saying it again (or something similar). And if I want to protest that the easiest way is to mock it. (Hell, I nearly pulled the infamous chuggo video out of sift talk again too, but I can understand your problems with advertisers and didn't want to be too much of a pain to you guys.)

If the mail you got had been to me (and it was my post), I may or may not have removed the info, because if she's getting really hurt and I don't really care, then there's no reason for it to be there. I can honestly not see how she would be so hurt over that though. This is turning into Sierra Noble-gate, I think.

I can certainly understand the disassociation you talk about. The John Gabriel Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory is very true indeed, but I freely identify myself and stand by my words.

My comment was really intended for you, calvados and her; and if you've all seen it, I don't really see the use in having it anymore. If you really feel it hurts her and you (and the sift) you have my blessing to remove it, and I won't bitch about it (any more).

Peace.

One malady of Internet life I feel is that people are very quick to take action for perceived "rights" issues- but seldom consider the individual human beings that their actions affect. It's a disassocation- happens in cars because we can't readily see the people inside and consider the car to be a beast at least in some portion of our brains. We do and say things that we would never do or say to a person's face.

You've taken the easy, automatic action- flipping off a car that you think has broken the road rules. I don't expect you to see it this way, because I'm sure you're feeling fairly defensive at this point. But wow, I really do wish people were more empathetic saw the world less in shades of black and white.

If you want to be smug, move to San Francisco. I'm no more pleased or displeased with myself than normal, because I don't really care. If someone pushes, I push back, and that's all I've done here.

You're the one being a dick to me, not the other way around.

In reply to this comment by dag:
Yes, quite the high road you're taking there. You must be really pleased with yourself. Congrats.

In reply to this comment by gwiz665:
The censorship comes not from you, but from her. She's feeling "outraged" that her daughter was talked about on the Internet, and while you obviously didn't just change the post (which would have been far worse), you passed on a "network note" that essentially made calvados change the post, not to look like a dick. To be completely honest, I'm not sure what was actually in the post before, I made my comment after his changes. I can see the point in not announcing something like she was nude on the beach or whatever in the title, but to guild trip people into not saying anything like it in the comments is just not kosher.

A comment is not a big deal. I don't want anyone to come in and tell me what I can and can't say about something so trivial. The next thing is that she wants me to only think good thoughts about her daughter.

There is such a thing as tact - if someone had died, I wouldn't do a little dance at his funeral - but this is just not relevant. If she wants to maintain the pristine veneer of her little fairy tale offspring, then she can go off to live in Narnia - this is the real world.

I don't care about private if you don't, I'm the one taking the high road.

In reply to this comment by dag:
Censorship. Really? You're going to go that route? Where's the censorship here? Have you seen me deleting anything?

I asked Calvados if he could modify his post to save this kid and her mom a bit of embarrassment - he complied. I waited a week for him to make the change - and I would have done absolutely nothing if he decided not to. Where exactly is this censorship you speak of?

Way to make a moral stand- you sure showed this lady.

PS, I'm making this private- but if this is something you want out in the open, feel free to unprivate it. Ta.

In reply to this comment by gwiz665:
Because I don't like censors. Not in any shape or form.

If I had done a 4Chan, it would be much worse (a fancy photoshop, for instance) - but I'm not a monster. Besides, other people have made far worse comments, and if she's giving you grief over my comment then I am sorry, for you, not her.

And she's not a minor at the "tender age of 19", so she can shove her concern.

In reply to this comment by dag:
Very clever and all - but why? We try hard to make VideoSift not 4Chan. This lady had a legitimate concern for her minor daughter, and this is not nice.

In reply to this comment by gwiz665:
Seen her naked. Life is good.
Edit: Beautiful music, too. I wish her well.

As someone who was engaged to Bill Gates' organizational psychologist's nanny, I got a kick out of this video.

Yes, he had an organizational psychologist. Her pantries were alphabetized.

Butters' Dad is not Happy!

rottenseed says...

He reminds me of my dad and his stupid reasoning and antics. Like hiding my skateboard and/or bike to make me think that somebody stole it because it left was outside for 20 minutes. The only one I had to worry about taking my shit was him.

Or him getting mad about me leaving a couple of cookies left in the container. But he never had a minimum number of cookies for me to leave that was acceptable. For example if there were 8 cookies left, and I wanted 3, he'd yell that I only left 5 in the bag. If there were 3 and I only wanted 1, I'd be yelled at for leaving 2. And why was I only allowed to have one open box of cereal at a time? Can't switch off days?

Well I showed him because now I leave my car windows down with keys in the ignition, keep empty bags of cookies in the pantry for weeks, and open many boxes of cereals at a time only to have most of it go bad!

Ok, well I gotta go see my therapist, bye...

@Memorare

The only rich people I know spend people I know spend tons of their money on charity and even run a non-profit food pantry for the homeless.

But then again, you're probably just making crap up based on nothing and I shouldn't bother responding to you.

Looks like they have some money based on the nice house. With regular bathing of the animals, a HEPA air filter and house cleaning it should be workable and I doubt they'd even have to do most of it.

I have four dogs ranging from 50 to 115 pounds, half of them mutts and none worth a dime to anyone but me. Three rodents for my youngest kid, a cat, and have over time taken in anything from broken winged birds to a hedgehog someone didn't know how to take care of as rescues. It's not as difficult as it seems with a little planning and basics such as air filters for the dander, and we don't have half the resources it seems they would.

Mine don't get on the furniture though. They are barrier trained in a similar way, if I tell them 'out of the kitchen' they go past an invisible line between the pantry and dishwasher and stay out. Won't go out an open door, and so on. Used to have one who you could lay a broom or something across the floor and he wouldn't pass it until told he could.
