Seth Meyers Opens 2018 Golden Globes
According to Wikipedia...
The Cecil B. DeMille Award is an honorary Golden Globe Award bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment".
Sorry, still don't see it. Harpo Productions is responsible for (among others) The Oprah Winfrey Show, Dr. Phil, Rachael Ray and The Dr. Oz Show (which, I would argue, is actually a social harm).
She's had a hand in a few interesting films (notably Selma), but she's just not in the same league as previous winners.
Harpo productions is most likely why Oprah won....and her show, channel, filmography, and overall social impact. I don't know what their criteria are, do you?
How Not to Do Brownies
Rule 6: know what drug(s) you are taking.
I'm pretty certain this was not just marijuana. As a person who has ingested over an oz of AAA quality marijuana in a single sitting, I will confidently say there was something else in those brownies to have this effect....unless he has a mental disorder. This is not a normal reaction to excess thc. I expect he unintentionally just got wet (pcp).
When Someone Requests A Steve Vai Song
Cheers for that. I decided to double my sifting efficiency and watched https://videosift.com/video/Drone-Flight-of-the-Year to that soundtrack... they synched up like Wizard of Oz and Dark Side of the Moon... and I'm not even high! (I started the drone flight after about 50 seconds if you want to try it yourself).
Off to listen to some Joe Satriani now that I'm in the mood for real guitar.
Steve Vai is one of the best instrumentalist guitarists in the world, known for incredibly complex music which would be best defined as 'soaring'.
That this guy got in the ballpark (and actually did a reasonable rendition of the song) is amazing.
Here's a 'performance' (apparently it's guitar synced) of the song so you can hear it.

The amazing and exotic birds is one of the fondest memories from my visit to OZ in 2001. We were at the Ballina Beach Resort for the Byron Bay Bluesfest and the buggers would just fly onto your shoulder. Loved it! [Plus I'm a "day" person down under]
Looks very much like a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, which you can occasionally spot flying here in Aus.
Very smart birds

How To Cook A Cheap Steak Vs. An Expensive Steak
I really dislike marinades. I want the steak. Pure. Simple.
I like Ribeye, but there ends up being so much thick fat cut to the side, that I feel I got ripped off, and my 12 oz steak is basically an 8 oz worth of edible meat, while the New York Strip gives more meat for the buck, and if done properly is normally good enough.

Avengers of Oz: Age of Tin Man
How does one do an Avengers/Wizard of Oz crossover and not make the obvious tin/iron man connection?
Firefighters of GTA V
They're all apparently related to the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz.
Police are ignited by water? All this time I've been bringing the wrong kinds of guns to my fights, all I really needed was a supersoaker.
Straya Day Ride
I want to go back to OZ someday. Loved my visit in 2001 and the delightful people I met there. First two days were at the Byron Bay Bluesfest and there was a small hippie town nearby that I can't remember the name of [something like bin bin ... only not that]. I could picture myself there, especially now
If Congress was your co-worker
Wow, are you Dr. Oz in real life? That's an amazing diagnosis from just a few words.
Totally wrong, on all counts, but so is Dr. Oz most of the time.
It's not confirmation bias (where did you learn those words anyhow? You're not using them right). The list of obstructionist measures taken by this Republican-led congress far surpasses anything that's come before. That's quantifiable. To pretend otherwise is just delusional.
You have confirmation bias. It prevents you from seeing things objectively. This is common in a politically polarised country.
You may also have some omission bias.
THE AMAZING TRIPLE SPIRAL (15,000 DOMINOES)
In the end it looks like the yellow brick road after the Nome King's conquest of Oz.
From a Seed to Weed - Stop Motion Cannabis
Looks like a good OZ when dried.

Why the metric system matters - Matt Anticole
Or alternatively 100 years after that once the last stubborn few have died out!
I was born a few years after Australia switched, and my birth weight was recorded in grams, but now 50 years AFTER the switch some people record their baby's weight in grams and others in lbs and oz.
If the same trend holds in the U.S., then even 100 years after phasing it out of schools there will still be some rural folks out there who don't hold with these new fangled metres and stuff and want to stick with the furlongs and fathoms that grandpappy used.
I'm completely comfortable with the metric system despite being from the US and living in Myanmar. I also recognize its clear advantages, like any rational person would.
But, feet and pounds are still intuitive for me because of my primary education. The US will only shift when they refuse to teach USC units to schoolchildren.
