Rambo-Last Blood

a moral right-the politics of dirty harry

ulysses1904 says...

I never get tired of this movie. Back in high school in the 70s my film class teacher let us watch this, it was unheard of. He said if he heard any sniggering during any of it he would shut it off right then so we kept quiet.

He pointed out some symbolism that I didn't get at first, about Callahan and Scorpio on the 50 yard line in the stadium. And the processing plant representing the justice system during the final chase, with Scorpio escaping. He also pointed out that even without a search warrant they would have charged Scorpio for shooting Chico and beating Callahan.

One thing I noticed, the violence in this 1971 movie was unheard of a year earlier. I can't think of any movie from 1969 or 1970 that had anything close to it.

The rest of the franchise got progressively worse for me, although Magnum Force made an effort. ("Me and Smith and Wesson", oh brother. He would have been shot 10 times over before getting to that line)

The problem with police in america is the culture. These people are drunk on power that increases with every passing year as they are given access to military hardware and told they are 'soldiers too' without having any of the training to use it.

Change the culture, remove the ever-increasing miltarization and shit might actually change. Until then every person who isn't white can live in ever constant fear that their lives are in danger every time they see a cop.

Tired of injustice
Tired of the schemes
I'm kinda disgusted
So what does this mean? (damn it)
Kicking me down
I got to get up
As jacked as it sounds
The whole system sucks (damn it)

Peek in the shadow
Come into the light
You tell me I'm wrong
Then you better prove you're right
You're sellin' out souls but
I care about mine
I've got to get stronger
And I won't give up the fight

With such confusions don't it make you wanna scream
Your bash abusin victimize within the scheme

You try to cope with every lie they scrutinize

Somebody please have mercy
Cause I just can't take it
Stop pressurin me
Just stop pressurin me
Stop pressurin me
Make me wanna scream
Stop pressurin me
Just stop pressurin me
Stop pressurin me
Make you just wanna scream

Tired of you tellin' the story your way
You're causin' confusion
You think it's okay (damn it!)

You keep changin' the rules
While I keep playin' the game
I can't take it much longer
I think I might go insane

With such confusion don't it make you wanna scream
Your bash abusin victimize within the scheme

You find your pleasure scandalizin' every lie

Oh father, please have mercy cause I just can't take it
Stop pressurin me
Just stop pressurin me
Stop pressurin me
Make me wanna scream
Stop pressurin me
Just stop pressurin me
Stop fuckin with me
Make me wanna scream

"Oh my God, can't believe what I saw
As I turned on the TV this evening
I was disgusted by all the injustice
All the injustice"

With such collusion's don't it make you wanna scream
Your bash abusin' victimize within the scheme

You try to cope with every lie they scrutinize

Oh brother please have mercy'Cause I just can't take it
Stop pressurin me Just stop pressurin' me
Stop pressurin me Makes me wanna scream
Stop pressurin me Just stop pressurin' me
Stop pressurin me Makes me wanna scream

I just realised that when he gets his head turned round and he's looking at the camera, this reminds me of George Clooney getting knocked out in Oh Brother Where Art Thou. So Hollywood.

I love our debates, but if you will excuse me, I must go to work now in order to pay for your safety net.

I never said tax was theft. Tax is most certainly a rudimentary part of living in a constitutional republic (with a strong representative democracy). That is when it's voluntary. Compulsory tax is theft as much as compulsory service in the military would be slavery.

But, I agree, we would only argue in circles, but I do enjoy long debates, so feel free to ignore me instead of humor me.

Oh brother. You see taxes as theft and I see them as a rudimentary part of living in a democratic nation. As long as we split on this, we are doomed to forever argue in circles.

Great! So, we can make taxation voluntary now? If you want safety nets, why won't you be persuasive in getting people to voluntarily pay into them? How is it ethical and just to violently steal to pay for them?

Oh, and audits aren't criminal. Tax evasion is. Men with guns will show up at your house and take you by force to jail for not paying taxes. I'm glad you no longer support that system of violent extortion, Paul.

In reply to this comment by dystopianfuturetoday:
As far as I know, tax audits are usually gun free, but if it makes you feel better, then no, I do not support government violence against you.
