The memory of seeing this movie makes me sick to my stomach. I had such high hopes, but I guess I should have seen it coming...

This movie makes a whole lot more sense now.

Yeah it's a good movie...if you don't mind the hypocrisy of deifying a senator for something completely misguided and deadly.


If you read the book, he's not exactly deified (nor was Charlie Wilson a senator). I don't really think he was deified in the movie either, but it wasn't as clear as the book, I suppose. The author (George Crile) does an extremely good job at making something that's at times extremely dense quite readable. The entire situation is something everyone needs to understand, because it shows how much influence a single person can have. The book and movie make the entire thing seem amazing because it was. A single US representative from Texas, with the help of a CIA agent (whose character you see in this clip) escalated US spending on equipment to incredible levels.

I don't think anyone would argue that opposing the Russian invasion of Afghanistan was necessarily a bad goal in and of itself, but the secretive way in which it was done meant the Afghans never knew it where the help was coming from, and that ultimately had unintended consequences. The book devotes quite large section at the end to discussing some of those issues. The movie sort of glossed over it if I remember correctly.

Oh come on, this is *quality movie making!

Morgan Freeman is one of those actors who, when I see him in a movie, makes me think "that's Morgan Freeman," as opposed to believing he's the character he's portraying.

I'm with blankfist on this one. This movie makes no sense!

To be honest, these kind of movies make me want to sleep.

Someone with the proper authority should really * Comedy this. Most people who were with me in the cinema for this movie burst into laughter when the fox started speaking.

Oddest directing choice in recent movie-making history.

I loved Battle Royale, but I think Suicide Club would take it's spot if I were to edit that list of his. Audition was fucked up and awesome -- good choice! And while I wouldn't say Unbreakable is in my top, I think it was the third best Shamalamadingdong (I believe it was Jay Leno who coined this popularly) film next to the Sixth Sense and the Happening. (The Happening is one of those films I have to keep watching like some sort of twisted ritual of pain. I've seen a lot of f'ed up flicks, but this movie makes me feel truly uneasy about life.) People hated Unbreakable, but I thought it was clever. While Bruce Willis fights the minor villains (like the serial rapist dude), Mr. Glass is orchestrating a sinister plot!!

Not only is it awful, it's also way too long. If you make a crap movie, make a short one.
