Pete Buttigieg Perfectly Articulates Republican Behavior

Another high ranking Republican who is apparently the best friend of another convicted child porn trader has quit in disgrace.

"BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s longest-serving state senator announced Monday that he would resign following a report that he had traded scores (over 70) of text messages with a man jailed on child pornography charges.

Republican Ray Holmberg, who rose to become one of the state’s most powerful lawmakers in a career that spanned 46 years, said he would resign effective June 1. His term was scheduled to end on Nov. 30 and he already had announced in March that it would be his last.

“Recent news stories have become a distraction for the important work of the legislative assembly during its interim meetings,” Holmberg, 79, said in a statement announcing his resignation. “I want to do what I can, within my power, to lessen such distractions.”

Maybe don’t be friends with convicted child molesters and kiddie porn purveyors, that might be a good way to lessen, even avoid such distractions…but that would mean ostracizing some of their Republican colleagues and the party leader(s).

You like to shout baseless claims of debauchery among Democrats, I like to point you to specific cases of actual proven debauchery among Republicans, and there’s a never ending stream of them to choose from….child molesters, kiddie porn purveyors, sex traffickers, best friends and wives to child molesters, etc….I know facts and convictions vs baseless claims can’t convince you of anything, you still say the 2020 election was stolen despite there being more evidence that 2016 was stolen, you still say Covid was a Democratic hoax and blame Democrats for Trump’s lack of response and shirking responsibility, you still claim CRT in grade school is a thing, you still claim Jan 6 was a peaceful tour of the capitol by patriots and also an attack on democracy by BLM and ANTIFA, you think Portland is a lawless wasteland of smoldering cinders….facts are for liberals.
(Btw- if Jan 6 wasn’t a Republican led, planned, and executed crime like we all know it was, why were republican representatives (Congressman Ronny Jackson, Congressman Andy Biggs, and Congressman Mo Brooks) petitioning Trump for pardons for their parts in it directly after the failed coup? You know that accepting a pardon is an admission of guilt, both logically and by law.)

Bernie Convinces Republicans He’s Right

luxintenebris jokingly says...

just a thought...$616 billion is what percentage of the amount taxed?

40 years ago the rate was higher. now it's much lower. could the amount be so large that a slight slice of that pie topples the amount collected in decades passed?

If Bezos can spend money on crap he doesn't need, why shouldn't we be able to spend it on things WE DO NEED?

in short, the message is real. your disbelief does not change the sun from rising. it serves no one well. least of all yourself.

if even a tickle of percipience has stirred your gray matter - then ignore the rest.

THE REST

"Just proves republicans also have stupid people who do not think ." Very close to the truth, but a lot closer than you think. Like less than an atom away.

what the GOP thinks of your patronage (total debauchary)

Jim Carrey reacts to Will Smith Chris Rock Slap @ The Oscars

newtboy says...

It didn’t look weak to me. Maybe he didn’t fully connect, but he put his whole body into it with follow through. Remember, this guy played Ali not so long ago and probably has near 100lbs on Chris.

I think the “ He should have just got on stage and asked Chris to apologize and hold up the show until he did.” Idea is almost as bad, just as narcissistic and self centered, takes away from the other winners just as much, and makes it all about Will’s bruised ego just as much, it only eliminates the actual, rather minimal violence….a step in the right direction, but hardly decent or acceptable behavior. If it becomes accepted, forget awards shows, somebody’s going to Kanye at every one for their own reasons. (Yes, I just used Kanye as a verb)

Will should have declined his award, or at the least given his time to Questlove and the rest of the Summer of Soul creators that he stole the limelight from. His apology fell incredibly flat. That’s another way his actions hurt the African American community, a major award for a stupendous documentary about a forgotten, amazing “black Woodstock” was ignored because of his tantrum.

The prosecution wouldn’t be about the punishment, you’re right, he would get community service and a tiny fine. It’s about showing there’s no free pass for the privileged, and not prosecuting proves there is one, at least in Hollywood. Not a good message to send to say the least.

I agree, he needs to retire, he’s got way more going on than one minor joke to have that reaction. He doesn’t need the money. I hope he takes his annoying kid with him.

I agree with Jim Carrey that the standing ovation given to Will Smith was more offensive than the slap itself. Kudos to Chris Rock for taking the high road, and getting "on with the show" - shows a true professional. Glad his comedy tour tickets are selling out.

A lot of initial reports were calling this a punch, but it wasn't. It was a weak slap, I'm sure that Smith could have slapped much harder but that wasn't the point. It was still dumb. He should have just got on stage and asked Chris to apologize and hold up the show until he did. The dumbest part was Will actually laughed at the joke!

As far as DA prosecuting, you know he'd never see jail time, and for any monetary fine- he's already done to himself by negative reputation. Think of all the potential future roles he's lost in that 1 moment. Time to go buy an island and move there, cause he's now retired.

Will Smith smacks Chris Rock on stage at Oscars Uncensored

newtboy says...

So far Chris has refused to even make a police report, much less a complaint.

Nonetheless, the DA should at least threaten to press charges anyway IMO. A public assault like that shouldn’t be ignored or it sends a clear public message that it’s ok, and it is not.

Edit: The Oscars themselves also bear a huge portion of blame. After this, they didn’t remove Will as they ABSOLUTELY should have, they didn’t strip him of his Oscar as they absolutely should have, instead they continued to honor him, not only awarding him the Oscar but giving him unlimited time to speak (where he didn’t apologize to Quest Love, who Chris was awarding an Oscar, nor the dead who’s memorial was overshadowed and murmured through, nor to Chris who he had just assaulted like the out of control thug racists want to paint him as.)
He just handed white supremacists the biggest gift one person possibly could.
#teamChris
BTW, I notice Will thought the joke was hilarious (:25 he’s laughing at the joke) before deciding it wasn’t. Shouldn’t he slap the shit out of himself too?

BSR said:

I doubt Chris will press charges. I think Will will apologize and realize he was a showoff bully asshole and carry the guilt with him and regret his actions.

If not, he is a good actor and can fake it. Or maybe he watched Bill Maher's latest show and thought he was being the man's man and defending his woman.

What I do know is that he made the Oscars all about him. He stole the show.

Now... if you don't mind, I'm going to Google Bald Jokes.

Republicans are suffering from Partisan Derangement Syndrome

also, some things to think about...

- we have a naturalized Austrian that can directly compare WWII to today's elephant-in-the-room...https://tinyurl.com/2p8zsj9m

- one of the few Republican leaders that speak to the Russian people (not rooting Putin on)...https://videosift.com/video/A-message-to-the-Russian-people

- self-made (seriously made) millionaire*, that was a governor of a large state - enough to qualify as a nation by itself - who is the closest to the template of St. Reagan alive...and he has much disdain for the GOP.

makes the head reel. an Austrian leader speaking out against fascism. another of the 1937 reasons NOT to support the red.

@newtboy,

A company cancelling a multi-billion dollar project means multi-billion dollars not spent on the work of the project, that many jobs out of the economy. Exactly the same as a car manufacturer shutting down for a week, by your logic nothing was lost, the company just stopped spending money for a couple days...

I only support the groups right to protest, and not to illegally block roads or borders. I stand by my wish is for their prompt arrest when illegal blocking roads, borders or places of business.

That said, I believe it also wrong of me to fail to point out that our federal government has continually refused to act as I would wish in promptly shutting down illegal blockades. This is the very first instance were they've shown any interest in a prompt police enforced end, and they've in fact jump much further to invoking a declaration of national emergency so they can also target protesters bank accounts directly and without court orders.

An analogy would be someone that supports arresting people for possession of marijuana. The government then proceeds to only selectively enforce that law, say only acting to make arrests when people are a particular creed or color. It's perfectly consistent to believe the government arrests are wrong and unfair, and to NOT support them, while at the same time still believing the idea of the rule applied fairly being a good idea.

One side is about what I think the line for protest should be:
-I believe the right to protest should be independent of creed or belief, and should only be restricted when actions taken are illegal.(Ideally illegal being defined as impeding on freedoms of others)

By that, the convoy blockade of border or streets should have led to immediate arrests.

In the eye of fairness though, the last two years have already seen at a minimum 3 major protests, that included illegal blockades of work sites and railways and those were ALL allowed to run for weeks and in 2 cases months. The government of the day even tripped over themselves to message their support for the overall causes of the protestors.

In that light, it's wrong to simply ignore the fact that the first protest that is likely to vote conservative is the ONLY one where the government immediately condemns everything about them and feels compelled to intervene urgently.

Churches were literally burning last summer, and our PM's public statements spent most of their time sympathizing with the anger before pleading that burning churches isn't helpful. Where'd all that compassion for folks that you disagree with go when it meant a small number of downtown Ottawa business shutdown and horns honking go. Now our PM invokes terrorizing of the populace.

Trudeau's actions have been distressingly similar to Trump's as the division in our country grows, he's using his words to reach out to the extreme end of his side of the aisle, while tossing gasoline and vitriol onto his opposition. It's making things worse in the worst possible way when we need leaders uniting instead of stoking further division.
