Matthew Good Band - Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts

BoneRemake says...

It gets dark around here early Sometimes the moon will follow you in the middle of the day Waiting to be found, we were just standing around With nothing really much to say
I didn't know any better You didn't think that we should Said we're gonna burn down the night I wanna be misunderstood All four wheels across the pavement We used to live in black and white I only think about tomorrow so it'll get me through the night
CHORUS And I ain't laughing and I ain't joking anymore I keep my footsteps to the ground I keep my eyes glued to the floor Somewhere in between only the stunners dream on this side of midnight
And maybe we're just crazy Maybe we're better off dead Maybe things will never change Maybe you've got it backwards in your head The Last of the Ghetto Astronauts won't be ignored Said I'm gonna go where no one has gone before Said I'm gonna go where no one has gone before
It gets dark around here early [ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/the-last-of-the-ghetto-astronauts-lyrics-matthew-good-band.html ] Sometimes there's more to the moon then just one man can see The voice without a name cries silent just the same, just the same way If I didn't know any better I'd say that maybe we all should When the morning comes around Don't wanna be misunderstood Sleeping on the pavement thinking everything's all right Waiting for tomorrow to get us through tonight
CHORUS
Been walking with the giants Been sleeping in a town without a name Been holding on to your arms and legs Your arms and legs cause Nobody here wants to put you back together again Together again, together again, together again
And maybe we're just crazy Maybe we're better off dead Maybe things will never change Maybe you've got it backwards in your head The Last of the Ghetto Astronauts won't be ignored Said I'm gonna go where no one has gone before Said I'm gonna go where no one has gone before No one, no one

>> ^kronosposeidon:

I found out about Matthew Good from MuchMusic (amazingly our local cable company had a Canadian channel in 1997.) I tried to order the Underdogs CD from Amazon.com and other online outlets in America, but none had it at the time so I finally had to order it from a retailer in the great white north. I believe that is the only parcel I have ever gotten from Canada. Most of my imports come from Sweden.

I found out about them from MM as well, Rick campanelli and racheal.. Master T, Suk yin or whatnot, It was from the Canadian music channel my mind started to twist and churn into a state where this music appealed to me. It REALLY meant a lot to me, this song especially ( I tear now I think about it ) I went for a walk with my Mega earphones and cd player back in the day while really high on mushrooms, beautiful experience which I never forget the blinding apocalypse which are high pressure sodium street lights.

I pretty well HAVE owned every , well I can not state that, I indeed have owned every output of the Matthew good man mind.

Matthew Good band .. This song.. IS FUCKING WICKED. This song, this album this music, is from my teen years 16 and up, when I learned of him, its a part of my history and I want to share its magic with you all. Those that are adventurous enough to click and listen.
Well, I'm not sure how adventurous you'd need to be to listen to emo power pop...adventurous is the wrong word. How about tenacious? Yes, tenacious is a better word, although I can empathize with you regarding the identification with particular music as a teen, like we all can.

When I was 16, I discovered Sex Pistols and Public Image Limited: now THERE'S a band that required some adventure. PiL, I mean. Sex Pistols, not as much. Fuck it, I'll toss you a vote.

1997 is one of my favourite years of musical releases. 15 years old... Matthew Good, Live, OLP, radiohead, Foo Fighters,Econoline Crush, Green Day, the Verve... so many great albums that year. 2003 was pretty sweet as well, loving our scene in Toronto that summer...

>> ^Farhad2000:
His arguement falls apart when we consider that all these networks respond to viewers wants and desires.

I disagree. Newton Minow ranted about this in 1961 because he saw what was coming. If television was a vaste wasteland back then, it's an infinite wasteland now.

To quote him.

"I do not accept the idea that the present over-all programming is aimed accurately at the public taste. The ratings tell us only that some people have their television sets turned on and of that number, so many are tuned to one channel and so many to another. They don't tell us what the public might watch if they were offered half-a-dozen additional choices. A rating, at best, is an indication of how many people saw what you gave them. Unfortunately, it does not reveal the depth of the penetration, or the intensity of reaction, and it never reveals what the acceptance would have been if what you gave them had been better -- if all the forces of art and creativity and daring and imagination had been unleashed. I believe in the people's good sense and good taste, and I am not convinced that the people's taste is as low as some of you assume."

End quote.

Television networks don't respond to viewers wants and desires, they create them. I think that abdicating their power onto the shoulders of the people indemnifies them from any responsibility, and that's disingenuous at best. Although that's exactly what they would want you to do.
