Aliens: Are We Looking in the Wrong Place?

noims says...

Interesting idea, but I have two main problems with this premise.

Firstly, it's not like we've got a lot of resources invested in the search. If I have a few people people to search a large forest for a particular type of tree, I'm going to use large scale searches looking for big obvious examples... I'm not going to do a sweep search to look at every tree.

Secondly, it doesn't take into account what's required for intelligent life to develop. He picked an example of a sports team - Manchester United - but didn't take into account that the best players (which I suggest is equivalent to intelligence) are all in the premier league, which comprises 20 teams. There are hundreds of other teams out there that would hardly blip on a skillometer (which I suggest is equivalent to a mind gauge).

OK, that second example got a little stretched and frankly weird, but it's key that we're looking for intelligent life, not all life, because intelligent life gives off more signals. Probably. No one really knows.

Calling Manchester United "overachieving c s" is ignorant on two levels. One, for the loutish, spiteful, language. And two, because Manchester United are always expected to achieve good results, simply because they are the top club. (No, I don't support them)

Thanks Mum, I'll bear it in mind...

Obviously you need your mum to help you, On your own you, by your own admission, are a child, with childish notions. So, be quiet, and know your place,

Oh man, get a grip. You have little in the way of manners. You have accused me of being ignorant, childish and that I don't know my place, all over an offhand comment about a football team?!?! Please, take your superiority complex elsewhere, silly person.

I don't see the difference between Man Utd and Man City except color. One has money...the other just got money. I support teams like Swansea and I think players shouldn't be able to make over $1 million a year because what they do Doesn't Fucking Matter.
If they make anything over $1 Million a year it should go directly into the education system where kids are going "I don't need maths and shit, I'll just be like Wayne Rooney."
I love the beautiful game more than anything, but I'm sick of these rich fucking cunts.

So, your saying if they earn UNDER a million a year, that would be ok with you? Is £999k acceptable?
And your saying what they do doesn't matter? Well, it matters a lot to them and to those who follow football like a religion. Who has the right to say what should matter in a persons life anyway? Right or wrong, money talks, and that is reflected in the price paid for rare talent whether it be in sport/art/houses/ etc. If a kid wants to be Rooney then fine. All he has to do is be as talented as him, but get an education as well incase he's not. Sadly, the type of kid you site is not very bright, and is more likely to be influenced by Xfactor rubbish, peers, and ignorant parents rather than teachers trying to educate. Probably the type of kid (like many adults) who are in shitty, if any, jobs and resent their lot in life.

Peaceful Protest in Spain meets non peaceful Police

marbles says...

Business Insider:
Police in Barcelona have attacked protesters that have been camped out since May 15 in the city's Plaza Catalunya. The protesters originally were trying to apply pressure to the public to not vote in last weekend's local Spanish elections. Those elections resulted in sharp losses for the country's Socialist Party government.

Protesters have remained in squares across Spain since the election, demanding government reforms and renewed attention to the country's unemployment crisis.

The forceful move against the protesters today in Barcelona was staged to clear the square out ahead of FC Barcelona's Champions League final match against Manchester United tomorrow evening. But to many, it may just appear the beginning of a government crackdown on the country's protesters.

When bullied kids snap...

zeoverlord says...

This reminds me of the time i used to get bullied, eventually it always ended up with me demonstrating to them that the reason they where able to bully me is because i let them, i only had to do it to 3 people before they all realized i could pwn them all (Blue belt in judo and being bigger and stronger than everybody helps), and each time the ones i did it to immediately stopped bullying me forever.
It's not like i hurt them or anything, much, though one of them did end up playing for Manchester united, so i guess he has some brain damage, o well, you cant win em all.

I guess the moral of the story is, if you getting bullied first ignore them (bullies hate being ignored for some reason, and really they do act in some way like trolls), then make sure you can fight everybody and still win (and by fight i mean in whatever way they are bullying you, could be intellectual or popularism too), then you stand up to them (never initiate, only defend), and remember kids, they only bully you because they are in some respect jealous of you.
