Baby Elephant Stampeed

newtboy says...

Dinner time, but yes running towards food and bed, not from poachers or lions....at least according to the description.

Actually, right after I hit submit, I noticed I missed the "breakfast time!" Scenario.

That would also fit with Mystic's observation.

Sexual Assault of Men Played for Laughs

BSR says...

It sounds to me as though you're on a mission to point out the evil taking place in children's movies that encourage bad things, such as torture as a tool. It also sounds as though you are ready to set aside some of your valuable time to bring attention to this "problem."

I'm not aware that you have ever attacked any sifters and it never crossed my mind.

What would you say if I told you Pixar knows EXACTLY what they are doing, why they are doing it and how they are succeeding, with or without your help? Your doubt about what they are doing is sending you down an unending, fruitless road costing you valuable time that you should be spending with your children. Not to mention the cost at the ticket window.

All the answers to your fears are already built into the same movie(s) you point out. If you look for evil you will create it and find it. Drop your cynicism and look for the good.

When you find the good you will be able teach your children how to get along in this world just by your example. Make your valuable time worth it.

I truly believe you are straightforward, honest, and as factual as you can be. Find the good and you will have unlimited power on your side. Yes, even the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion.

All alone, or in two's
The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall
Some hand in hand
And some gathered together in bands
The bleeding hearts and the artists
Make their stand
And when they've given you their all
Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy
Banging your heart against some mad bugger's wall -Pink Floyd

I suppose that depends on the definition of demonizing and on my intent. As I said, it's not just an indictment of Pixar but children's film's more broadly. Its limited in scope because of the forum.

I'm not sure how to respond to your second comment about what I fear. That seems like some sort of red herring and I haven't attacked any sifters. I don't feel like the commentary on Pixar film's is an attack either, I doubt they realize what they're doing beyond adding what they think will be a salacious plot point to a movie.

I suppose I fear being surrounded by dumb internet trolls, but hey, all I can do is be straightforward, honest, and as factual as I can be.

Assyria vs Elam: The battle of Til Tuba

oritteropo says...

They are just links to articles/videos on the great Assyrian king Ashurbanipal.

Intro to Ashurbanipal: https://goo.gl/W58wPJ links to https://blog.britishmuseum.org/who-was-ashurbanipal/ which is an article on the British Museum's blog.
The second link goes to a youtube video featuring Irving Finkel explaining how to write cuneiform
The third link goes to https://blog.britishmuseum.org/lion-hunting-the-sport-of-kings-2/ which is another article on the Museum's blog, on lion hunting in ancient Asyrria.
The final link is also on their blog, and is an article on King Ashurbanipal’s botanical gardens https://blog.britishmuseum.org/paradise-on-earth-the-gardens-of-ashurbanipal/

What't with the links in the description? They look suspect.

Public Shaming

diego says...

I agree that mob mentality and internet anonymity are a toxic combination, and for that alone his point is well made that public shaming is bound to end badly for everyone involved.

however, its hard to take the video seriously when he fails to address at all the failure of police and the justice system. He talks about bringing powerful people to justice as if it were a bad thing, in fact Larry Nassar's name comes up in the video as he makes the point- are you really suggesting that its a bad thing that a guy who raped dozens of girls- while representing your country no less- be exposed and brought to justice for his despicable behavior?

as for palmer, he complied with the law but the law sucked, and he knew what he was doing. he went to the border of a national park and shot a lion that had a GPS collar because it was under study, you'd think a good hunter would spot that. He didnt care because he travelled half way round the world and paid good money to bring himself back a lion skin- should he be immune from criticism just because he didnt break the law? The people who put signs and flowers didnt break the law either by that standard, only the ones who vandalized his property. maybe its just a matter of the justice system actually working so that mob justice is unnecessary??

Giraffe VS Lions

robbersdog49 says...

Getting that close to lions in an open vehicle is not unusual on safari. They see the vehicles as just part of the landscape, like a tree.

Damn they were close, lucky the lions didn't decide to go with meals on wheels instead

Lion King - Live Action Teaser

ChaosEngine says...

Yeah, this.

I guess it’s a bit harsh to judge this from just a teaser but....

This looks like a shot for shot remake. Financially? Genius move.

Artistic? Yawn. If you’re gonna redo the Lion King, do something interesting with it; like remove all the dialogue or something. I mean, I get why they don’t do that, but this holds almost no interest for me and it’s only “almost” because I’m curious to see John Oliver in it.
