20 reasons Jesus was a communist, pacifist, tax-and-spend liberal hippie (Blog Entry by jwray)
What I don't understand is why do Christians bluntly defend the money system that often kicks them out of their home and become homeless?
Are they afraid God will strike lightning if they say something bad about a rich corporation?
The bible actually had a system called Jubilee where every certain number of years the system will *reset* and people get back what was taken from them as a chance to start over if things got screwed up.
Capitalism lacks any kind of *reset* to give people a second chance.
Listen to Michael Card's song *Jubilee* in which I didn't understand when I was younger so meant nothing to me but now that I understand it I see the flaws in all *systems* that isn't inspired by the true creator.
We need a new kind of *Jubilee* where the (debt) slaves are set free who paid their debts and got their land and home back and their family back if they were sold.
Today's system results in people making poor choices that hurt themselves such as prostitution out of control/drugged out brains where they can't see properly let alone drive.
RetroAhoy: Quake
Before the match, one of the moderators said he was going to record a demo (quake engine built-in recorder), but he never followed up when I asked him how to get a copy.
The final points were memorable - I just got the pentagram of protection, then went underwater chasing after 2 guys, and discharged the lightning gun (doesn't suicide with that power-up).
Are there recordings and photo(graph)s of you winning?

Indiana Jones & Pascal's Wager: Crash Course Philosophy #15
Somewhat disappointed that he didn't include my personal favorite argument against Pascal's Wager: conflicting faiths.
Instead of a 4-cell chart (2x2 from believe/don't believe and god exists/doesn't), the chart should arguably be a LOT bigger. Plenty of individual branches of Christianity will tell you that *their* specific brand is the only one that will get you into heaven. And that's just relatively minor distinctions -- different sorts of Protestants, or Protestants vs Catholics, etc. We haven't even got to Christianity vs Judaism vs Islam -- all of which fall under the "Abrahamic" umbrella -- but very few Christian faiths think that Jews or Muslims are just as eligible to enter heaven as they are (or vice-versa). From there you can get to things as disparate as Hindu vs Ancient Egyptian vs Zoroastrianism, and everything else.
With that sort of chart, it is just as easy to say that choosing to believe in the *wrong* god could possibly be associated with a more negative outcome than washing your hands of it and going Atheist. Maybe I chose to believe in Ra the Sun God when Zeus ends up being the one true deity. Come to find that Zeus, as it turns out, tolerates people who don't believe in him as long as they don't believe in one of his competitors (like Ra). Therefore I get a lightning bolt to the keyster and a trip to Hades while my nonbeliever buddy gets a ticket to Elysium.
Of course it's all a load of bollocks, but if your argument is a load of bollocks (like Pascal's wager) you don't get to complain when somebody flips it on its head and uses it to argue the exact opposite...
Doom WASN'T 3D! - Digressing and Sidequesting
I guess its a really long winded way of saying "these games don't have a z coordinate".
but yah, its all abstraction and illusion. Maybe in the future somebody will make a holovid about how the games of the early 21st didn't have lightning or shadows because they weren't ray-traced or something.
Oh come on. Fairly informative and correct for the most part except for the title and main argument. Still, it is about Doom and binary partitions, so thats all OK.
Anything on a flat monitor is "just faking" 3D.
Yes, Doom levels could still be designed in plan view, but the in-game display of the floors, walls and ceilings is a very rudimentary, but definitely 3D, experience. Displayed objects have an obvious X, Y and Z coordinate. The Z coordinate was not used for aim (people had not got used to using a mouse for aim at that point) but it was used for display and movement.
Also forgot to complain about flat sprite monsters.
No Doom was not "computed like any other 2D game", or rather it partly was, but then on top of that it was displayed in 3D, which was a big deal back then. Yes, fake 3D, on a monitor, but definitely 3D.
Quake ran in plain VGA so the argument about 3D accelerators falls rather flat :-)
Sons of New York | Bernie Sanders
Sons of New York, I am Bernie Sanders!
'Bernie Sanders is 7 feet tall'
Yes, I’ve heard, kills Republicans by the hundreds, and if he were here he would consume Hillary with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse. I am Bernie Sanders, and I see a whole army of my countrymen, here in defiance of tyranny. You’ve come to vote as free men, and free men you are. What will you do without freedom? Will you vote?
'…against that? No, we will run, and we will live…'
Aye, vote and you may die, run and you’ll live. At least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take our FREEDOM!
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Conspiracies
He's going to be turned into the new filling for Cadbury eggs next year. It's sad to see him go ride the candy lightning. =)
Damn, now they are going to kill him.
Removing a 40 Metre tree with a chainsaw and some rope
Not at all. I hate seeing nice trees cut down as well.
I would guess they took it down because of the HUGE crack in a large branch that you can see at the start of the video.....oh...I just read the description where they explain EXACTLY why they took it down, it was dropping branches after a lightning strike, almost hitting someone. That likely means the trunk was also weakened, and it was certainly close enough to take out that house.
I can relate. I (sadly) took down a 30-40 meter Douglas Fir tree in my yard a few years back. It's still painful to think about. My tree had grown too tall, and had a weakened root system because it was growing sideways out of a small hill, and had massive gopher activity all around it. All the surrounding trees on other properties were cut well before we moved here, so it was also exposed to full wind. I was terrified that it was going to come down through my bedroom and kill the wife and myself, or through a neighbors house, so we had it cut. I've spent the nearly 3 years since then digging out the root ball (which WAS as weakened as I had thought) and turning the hole into a large pond. I still hate that we had to kill the tree, but it was a safety issue. At least I have firewood for years to come, and a pond.
Am I the only only one who thinks this sad? Why did they cut down such a magnificent tree?
John Oliver: Border Wall
US$1.3 trillion for the development and testing of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, 115 million (est) per plane when they get around to figuring out how to stop structural cracking and a way to actually get it to pass a real operational trial.
Not saying I agree that a wall is needed or would even work, but let's be realistic in saying we are more than willing to throw a fuckton of money towards projects of equally dubious natures.

Ball Lightning Filmed
The lightning strike takes some time - with several subsequent strikes.
Hmm... Never seen light move that slowly as it bounces off objects. Do clouds possess some type of magic, other-worldly temporal physics in the reality in which your crazy, tinfoil-hat-wearing brain resides?
