Black Man Gets Pulled Over For Doing 65 in a 70

SFOGuy says...

Discretion in police action (other than speed cameras)---is all about people with privilege getting a chance to get let go--because of a special license plate frame that recognizes a contribution to a widow and orphans fund for dead patrol officers...because of ethnicity...because (from college) a cute friend who was girl undid another blouse button and smiled a lot...And in this case, to allow them to pull over some for driving while black. Ugh.

Black Man Gets Pulled Over For Doing 65 in a 70

There's no such thing as a casual conversation with a racist pig. Only conversation designed to catch you in what they say is some admission or claim you slurred your words so they can violate you more.
Never answer questions. None. You have no obligation to help them investigate you, and that's what questions are. You have a constitutional right to remain silent, use it.

Another good cop? As good as they get now, only blatantly racist by his actions. There's no such thing as a good cop. They're a myth.
Note after seeing this video they aren't a bit convinced there's something wrong with him giving a written warning for not speeding and before they'll even consider looking at his actions they need an official complaint with his name, address, place of work, car model and color, license, and any other identifying information attached....for ID purposes not retaliation. His entire department backs him in this harassment. I'll bet $20 if he went to the precinct to make an official complaint they'll first spend hours dismissively trying to talk him out of it before claiming they're out of forms, come back next week and try again.

A warning for 5 mph under the limit. Yeah....I'm sure he pulls over every little old white lady he sees driving and arrests them, they go 20+mph under 70. What utter bullshit.

These aren't police, not civil servants, and they aren't there to help or keep the peace, they're violent, power tripping thugs, racists, liars, and are all severely lead deficient. The last two weeks have proven it conclusively.

Perry, please make that official formal complaint, and please record that interaction in full. This was not a valid traffic stop, it was an abuse of power by a disrespectful racist asshole who wanted to harass a black man.

If this was France, he'd be doing the same thing, only in reverse and with a queue of 500 irate Parisians waiting to get their driver's licenses only to be told they forgot to check Box 3 with a blue pen instead of a black one.

No, there aren't. The cheating is excessively one sided.
Republicans certainly think it helps them, or they wouldn't be doing it over and over and over and over while claiming illegal immigrants are the problem with zero evidence to back their claims.
There have been zero democratic campaigns caught cheating, changing ballots, purging voter rolls, closing polling places in areas where the minority population increased and adding more in affluent areas, instituting polling taxes, or voting multiple times or for dead people. Those were ALL Republicans. Show me an instance in the last decade of a democratic conspiracy to commit vote fraud, I doubt you can even come up with individual instances. Btw, OANN or other disreputable sources (propaganda networks) will be ignored, if you find a story there, verify it elsewhere before using it as evidence, because the chances they're making it up are good.

I would agree with allowing Sunday voting, but your party has banned it because huge numbers of minorities were voting after church, so Sunday voting was removed in multiple Republican led states. I also support a full week of voting. Mandatory voting, while I like the idea, is incredibly complicated and won't work in America imo, and especially not if you removed voting by mail.

I'll run with in person only (although I don't really support it) because that also hurts Republicans badly....the elderly almost exclusively vote by mail, your main voting block.
With ID....ok, but to be fair, it needs to be a voting only ID that every person needs to go wait in line at the DMV or courthouse to get. If Republicans had to jump through the same hoops they want to set up for the poor, they would remove all the hoops....elderly and CEOs won't accept having to procure a seperate id just to vote, like they insist is a good idea for the poor who don't drive so don't have a driver's license...they only like the idea if the id they already have covers them, not if they have to do anything to get one.

Cheats on all sides. I want none. Cheating helps no one.
Should have mandatory Sat/Sunday voting only. no 2 or 3 week pre voting. Also want in person with ID.

If you out to town / state oh well.
For military would concede an exemption.

Just a anecdotal based response: Left my 3 year old, who was asleep buckled in his seat (which he cannot undo), in the car on an overcast day, 68 degrees out, doors locked. I left a second cell phone on monitor, so I could hear him if he woke up. Went in to a strip mall store 50 yards away from the car.
I hear him wake up, so I come out to check on him, and there's some man, apparently having banged on the window to wake him up, looking at me like I was trying to kill him. Apparently took my license plat and called child services, who eventually called me, my wife, my parents, and did a full investigation. I had almost the same experience, but I'm white and privileged so did not get arrested or have my children removed. I'm confident it could have been a lot worse if I was near the poverty line. I also received a similar lecture:
"We recognize that temperature and weather were ok, but do you recognize how unsafe it was to leave him unsupervised?"
"No, I don't. What could have happened? He was secure and unable to come out of the chair, the doors were locked, and he was monitored"
"Well some one could have smashed the window and taken him"
"Really? A stranger abduction, from a locked car, in broad daylight?"
"Well, what about if the police were called, and you were arrested in front of him. Wouldn't that be traumatic?"

And there they are right. And there you have it - the real danger is not any ACTUAL danger, it's our own fear. FDR had it right.

What Happens To Good Cops?

newtboy says...

Forgiven? Absolutely not. Forgiveness without any indication of remorse is acceptance, and his actions were and are unacceptable.
30+ years ago. I would bet he doesn't remember it, seemed like a normal everyday thing for him to violently threaten someone's life, then threaten their safety and freedom if they dared to complain.
It also seemed that he accepted zero responsibility for his mistake or actions, like most cops, something his superiors obviously agreed with. It was somehow my fault he misread my clean license plate, so what would he have to regret?

I learned that day that it's not just individual bad cops, it's top down criminality and disdain for citizens.

Anger and mistrust are proper when you've been abused and threatened and had your trust violated violently....more so when the system totally fails to address it.

If he's Moby, I'm Queequeg, not Ahab. I learned police are dangerous, dishonest, and filled with contempt for those they're duty bound to protect and serve. I didn't turn my life into a vendetta against them, but I sure as fuck know sperm whales are dangerous and will ruin your entire day, and should be avoided when possible and never trusted.

Have you forgiven the cop that put a gun to your head and saved your life and his by not pulling the trigger?

I wonder where he is today and if he truly regrets and is sorry for his actions at that time. It's been awhile hasn't it?

What Happens When You Try to File a Complaint Against a Cop

JiggaJonson says...

I actually had this happen to me after I got a ticket. A $250 + $150 court fee ticket because I was going...wait for it...35 mph.

I got pulled over at this exact location, go on and try to find a speed limit sign going north. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.6110353,-87.508833,3a,75y,12.09h,82.7t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxVT9eHxtCpzbkw2Q6wPCaQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

I remember because he whipped out from that liquor store parking lot, but long story short he wrote me a ticket and I didn't notice until later that the ticket said I got pulled over at Calumet and Lyons (right in front of the school down the road). It may be the case that the whole area is actually 25, but to be fair I was driving at 10 p.m. on my way home, whole fucking street empty.

Red n Blues as I approach the railroad tracks. I look at my speedometer "Is he pulling me over? I'm only going 35. Hmmm. Okay."

"Sir, do you have any idea how fast you were going?"
Sheepishly - "Thirty? Five?"
"THATS RIGHT!"

License - Reg, and he walks off, I look at it and say "Jesus christ! $250 for going 35?"

I find out about the court fees adding another $150 and then I see that he wrote the wrong street down "Hmmm what's this street he wrote ohhhHHHH right in front of the school where it's obviously 25 not near the railroad tracks eh? What a fucker"

I go to complain and the chief of police comes out and wants to know why I want to complain. He explains that it will go on the guys record and I should really just pay it because it could end up being a lot more trouble for me than it's worth. Strong insinuation in his voice, I left and didn't pay, didn't file complaint, went to court and explained.

Nothing happened to him, he didn't even get asked why he wrote the wrong street. It was just assumed that he was being honest.

Yeah, people don't write songs calling for "fuck the firemen" or "fuck the EMT's" - gee, I wonder why.

Delaware State Trooper Pulls Gun on Black Man For Speeding

newtboy says...

Corporal O’Neil of Troop 7 in Lewes, Del., reportedly did not request license or registration, never said why he was pulling him over until long after they were at the station, and repeatedly berated "you people" on the way to the station, telling Buckly "you're a piece of shit...go ahead and try the race card"
Buckley was not allowed to file an official complaint when he was released, in violation of more laws.

This is why police get shot in the face during traffic stops, and why some of them deserve it. There was zero reason to have him get out of the car, or to pull a deadly weapon.
I had the same treatment except the gun was to my head, and I was thrown to the concrete and jumped on, all while complying with commands, all because a dumb cop read my license plate wrong.

Fuck the police until criminal cops like this are all in a deep dark prison with no special protection.

Beyond The Crash - The Worst News Of Your Life

newtboy says...

For one, nightshift workers, especially night shift drivers. Things are dangerous enough for them as is without making them survive a nightly road purge.
For another, many drunk drivers already have kids, so wouldn't be wiped from the gene pool.

I liked the old German model where any detectable alcohol at all while driving is automatic suspension of your license. It's not perfect but I'm fairly certain they have way less dui's because there is no level of intoxicated that's legal so fewer people convince themselves they're not too drunk.

Trump to Give Primetime Address on the Shutdown

newtboy says...

I like his new plan, to take the money directly from the military for the monument to his own stupidity. Republicans should love that.
He's going to be really upset to learn that Mexico has developed ladder technology, making fences and walls obsolete.

Networks should refuse to air his speech and cite President Trump who repeatedly said he might yank the broadcasting license of networks that air fake news and lies as the reason.
