I Love The Nightlife - Alicia Bridges

ulysses1904 says...

oh god this song was part of the years-long fever dream disco medley soundtrack that ran from 1975-1980.
Do the Hustle-Hijack your love-Disco Lady-Night fever-I Will Survive-Disco Inferno-YMCA-Good Times-Le Freak, blah blah.
I'm glad The Clash and The Pretenders came along when they did, even The Knack was a welcome relief.

Who do you blame for the election results? (User Poll by newtboy)

Jinx says...

I dunno if it is right to blame liberals when a campaign uses fear and hate to the degree Trump did. The Dems failed to address it, but it was not they alone that set the fires, and it certainly wasn't the left fanning them. How do you address bigotry? Must we forever defend the foundations of equality from this...rot?

Trump demonstrated a complete disdain for the truth. The media failed to call him on it - fucking fallacy of the middle-ground bullshit. But then idk if that would have made a difference. Sad that really.

Two party system doesn't help. I think this increasing polarisation is partly due to that, partly due, ironically, to the internet. It was meant to connect us to everybody! In reality it only really connects us to the people we agree with. I also think it is interesting how different cities and the country votes. Its the same deal here in the UK. London is like a different country, culturally and politically, to the rest of England. I imagine the big cities in America have a similar disconnect from the country around them.

I hope this will be a lesson. But I already begin to doubt it. Clinton blaming her loss on the email revelations. Lady, maybe don't have so many skeletons hiding away eh? I know you didn't do anything illegal, but nor did your Husband and he still lost the White House because of it.

I think I'd like to change my vote to "no one - the election was fair". Toute nation a le gouvernement qu'elle merite.

President Trump: How & Why...

radx says...

That path only leads to depression, my friend. If sexism and/or racism is the criteria, Berlusconi was in and out of office for 17 years. Victor Orban is in office right now. Marine Le Pen is a very real possibility next year. That's a lot of Trumpets if I may borrow Mark Blythe's term for it...

It's also a lot of people willing to overlook seemingly disqualifying characteristics. Which cuts to what truly fills me with sadness: just how pathetic of an alternative must the Left, of which I am a part, be providing these days if people prefer the right-wing alternative, no matter how ugly its face might be...

That is true, but I think a similar categorical statement can be made; everyone who voted for Trump was willing to overlook sexism and racism in a presidential candidate. That is very nearly as sad.

My neighbor's cat was sitting in the street at night under a streetlight and I watched a skunk zig-zagging up the road towards him. The cat just sat there watching and as the skunk got closer I figured this was not going to end well. The suspense was killing me and then the skunk finally waddled up, touched noses with the cat and went on its way. The End. Sleep well.

2016 Porsche Cayman GT4: Can The Cayman Finally Beat The 911

AeroMechanical says...

This is just uninformed supposition, but I could this mean they're going to field a Boxster at Le Mans in the coming years? That seems unthinkable. The 911's are currently disadvantaged because of the big rear diffusors the 2016 GTLM regulations started allowing. All the mid and front engine cars can stick them on there, but I understand the drivetrain is in the way on the 911. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Also, hah at the reference to Linoleum :

Possessions never meant anything to me
I'm not crazy
Well that's not true, I've got a bed and a guitar
And a dog named Bob who pisses on my floor
That's right, I've got a floor
So what
So what
So what

I've got pockets full of kleenex and lint and holes
Where everything important to me just seems to fall right down my leg
And onto the floor
My closest friend linoleum

Lin-o-le-um

Supports my head, gives me something to believe
That's me on the beach side combing the sand
Metal meter in my hand
Sporting a pocket full of change
That's me on the street with a violin under my chin
Playing with a grin, singing gibberish
That's me on the back of the bus
That's me in the cell
That's me inside your head
That's me inside your head
That's me inside your head

New Poll Numbers Have Clinton Far Behind And Falling

radx says...

As depressing as it is, Trump might very well be the preferable outcome for people in the Maghreb. Clinton has been a major driver behind the clusterfuck that used to be Syria and Libya.

Also, if you browse through the economics commentaries outside the mainstream, you'll notice that the US-based crowd seems to be borrowing yet another word from German: Lumpenproletariat. Old Marx is back with a vengeance.

And if people like Clinton, Cameron, Hollande, Rajoy and Merkel piss on the Lumpenproletariat, you get your Farages, your le Pens, your Trumps, your Petrys. Treat the plebs like rats, and many will follow whatever rat-catcher comes along...
