Infected Mushroom - Artillery

chicchorea says...

...they ate Infected Mushroom?

For more than 20 years this was my favorite 'group' of musical artists. Then... they just stopped trying...?
I don't read interviews or keep up on any news outside of an artists album releases, but they went from revolutionizing (and I don't use that word lightly) electronic music with Classical Mushroom, to discovering whole new landscapes of sound, and bordering electro-pop, with Converting Vegetarians, and after that everything they released was unimaginative, repetitive, droning drivel. What happened?!

Mozart Vs Srillex

Yeah, the dude looks funny, he's a stereotype, and he definitely has his formula that repeats for most of his best songs, but his music is still godlike.

Go listen to some (old) Infected Mushroom though... now that stuff could be considered modern-Mozart.

Song is Heavyweight by Infected Mushroom

What song is this?
Why isn't the artist naked as well?

>> ^djsunkid:
This might be Infected Mushroom, just judging by the very high production quality. I'm not that familiar with their more recent stuff.

Nice to see Shpongle and Infected Mushroom on your list, dsjunkid, hadn't listened to them IN YEARS, literally! And Saint Germain is nothing to be ashamed of, even with their popularity.

So here's my 10 cent:
1. Bear McCreary - Something Dark Is Coming (BSG Season 2)
Dark ambient. One of the best tracks from _the_ best TV series soundtrack ever created, I shit you not. We're off to a great start; McCreary is exactly what I hoped to see on my list.

2. Joke Society - Morphing Morning
From Cafe Del Mar SunSand. Yes, I confess guilty as charged, I'm one of the Cafe Del Mar obsessed.

3. Faithless - We Come One

4. Awake On A Train - Múm
Their 2000 "Yesterday Was Dramatic - Today Is OK" is one of the best albums in the world, period. This masterpiece of theirs is even better than Sigur Ros (they're both icelandic). We're doing a lot better than I expected.

5. Obstacle 1 - Interpol
Again, "Turn On The Bright Lights" was one hell of an album. Thank you, people that helped me sift some of their stuff. This is indie rock at its best.

6. Ace Of Spades - Motörhead

7. Evergreen (Dusted Remix) - Faithless
From Hed Kandi's Winter Chill 3, this is one of my favorite lounge/chillout tracks of all time. Excellent mix, too, a lot better than original, which is definitely saying something.

8. Jumbo - Underworld

9. All Along The Watchtower - Bear McCreary (BSG Season 3)
Best modern cover of this masterpiece. A tune of harps and sitar pave the way for a surprisingly powerful progressive guitar. I strongly suggest you google/youtube it.

10. Knights of Cydonia - Muse

Well, I must say, I never expected this to turn out as well as it did. Thank you, trusty shuffle, I may now actually use more of you in the future. And thanks for starting this experiment, dft

Well, I don't have an MP3 player, so I just loaded up my entire collection in winamp and hit randomize playlist. Here's what I came up with:

1. Beatsystem - Endlessly Downward

This is exactly what it sounds like. It is a 3 minute track of a repeating loop of tones that sound like they are going downward, endlessly. It is kind of a auditory version of barbershop pole.

2. Transwave - The Rezwalker (London Live Remix)

The first of several classic goa trance tracks that ended up here. I do have a fair collection of old goa on here, I suppose, but they are unfairly represented in this list, which is just fine. I love this music.

3. Finski Disco - Speaking in Lungs

Now this is really really weird stuff. Finland psytrance is some of the most interesting music I've heard in years.

4. Acrid Abeyance - 303 Delight

Classic, screaming, hard acid techno music. 303 delight, indeed.

5. Pleiadians - Alcyone

Another classic goa track. Alcyone is the name of a star in the pleadian star cluster.

6. Cause 4 Concern - Research

Drum and bass.

7. St. Germain - Montego Bay Spleen

This is the closest thing to an embarassment on my list. OK, it's almost mainstream jazzy house music. It's cool though.

8. Chris Watson - Adult Cheetah resting by the Baobob tree.

An actual recording of a Cheetah, purring as it rests by a tree. If you turn it up loud, it sounds crazy- almost like you're in a cheetah's mouth!

9. Shpongle - Periscopes of Consciousness
10. Infected Mushroom - Semi Nice

These should be self-explanatory.

Wow, did I ever luck in. What a great list!

I only have about 500 records, but haven't really been collecting for a few years now. My friend Jesse Dangerously, on the other hand, has over 2000. When we were roommates, we bought a HUGE record shelf from IKEA. I took up two of the twenty units. Jesse has it completely FULL now, although probably a full third of those records are bargain basement classics that he bought for sample digging.

My record collection is probably 1/3rd classic goa trance (astral projection, hallucinogen, infected mushroom, etnica, total eclipse, etc), 1/3rd banging techno, and the rest is a mishmash of ambient, triphop and classics... I've got a few rare gems- a test pressing of the mortal kombat theme music, for example- and some portishead singles, but most of my rare records are really niche psytrance finds.

meant to ask you djsunkid....how much vinyl do you have???

Upvote for the Ken Nordine, although I must say the powerpoint animation leaves something to be desired. The audio is from an album he released of radio ads that he made for a paint company back in the 50s. It's one of the most unique albums in my collection.
