Russian Gas Truck Explodes In An Accident

VENGANCE!!!!!

Jinx says...

You can't really say the driver started it for much the same reasons you can't be definite about their reasons for meandering in the road.

Buuuuuut....since we are all bein innanet jurors I surmise that the plebestrians had been obstructed traffic for some time. Mayhaps it was some sort of revenge play followin an earlier altercation or maybe there were just being dicks. We don't know. No witnesses have presented. I'd guess they turned back around because they had detoured to block the prolemobile.

Anyhoo. Fine for littering & obstruction of a highway for the wet muppets. Fine for use of a horn in anger or frustration and deliberate splashing of pedestrians for the dry muppets. JUSTICE SERVED. Let their stupidity go some way to filling a pothole somewhere.

notarobot said:

Not at all.

They two pedestrians should have moved over for the car in the first place.

Why didn't they? Can't be sure.

Was there a giant puddle they were avoiding? That's not clear. It looks like there was a sidewalk, but still no bike lane for the cyclists who starts the video avoiding other traffic on a narrow road.

One thing that is clear is that it's not the pedestrians who started yelling. Even if the pedestrians were in the wrong for not yielding to the vehicle (they should have moved over) it was the driver who escalated the situation. This makes the driver the biggest jerk.

(I still think it looks staged.)

Alleged Drunk Driver Crash on H-1 Freeway Hits Barrier

ReverendTed says...

I didn't see a sarcasm tag, so I'm going to presume you were asking about the road setup.

This is exit 19-B westbound on IH-1 in Honolulu, the eastern end of H201.

The nearest highway entry is about a half mile back. That entry comes in as its own dedicated lane, and then becomes exit-only here. (The next lane over is exit-or-go-straight.) I'm guessing the driver either entered there and waited too long to get over into the main lanes, or he drifted into the entry-exit lane to pass the car with the dashcam, not realizing the lane was about to exit.

Fairbs said:

does that seem like a proper road entry? I can't think of where I've seen anything like that before

Highway through a Building

FedEx Driver drifting a Jackknifed Truck like a boss

bitterbug says...

Never did a stint as a commercial driver, but passed all the courses and went through down to the Michigan Decision Driving training grounds and did runs in trucks with jacknife scenarios, etc.

He's not drifting there. His trailer brakes are locked up. And because of inertia and ice his trailer is trying to pass his cab.

The goal is to maintain control but keep as low a speed as possible, so you give power to the cab to pull the trailer back into line in a normal situation. In this case he doesn't want to accelerate because there's no safe ground to regain control on, so he's going to aim for keeping the cab going at equal to or just slightly faster than the trailer.

As soon as he hits a clear patch of pavement or level ground then a little bit of acceleration from the cab pulls the trailer back in line behind the cab, drop the acceleration as the drag from the trailer slows you down, etc.

A good reason to always wait before pulling back in after passing a truck on the highway. In an emergency their maneuvers can take long distances when fully loaded. If something goes wrong during your passing maneuver your want to be as far out of their way as possible.

Of course if we keep expanding airports the way we have been we will probably have to build highways in them eventually anyhow. So really, this guy is just ahead of the curve.

Adam Ruins Everything - Keep America Beautiful

bamdrew says...

And here we are, just about 2017, and 'freethinkers' are still convincing themselves that sending 100 million tons of carbon up into the sky every day does nothing to the air, water and soil carbon sinks. And to suggest it does and also own a car or fly in a plane? You're a degenerate hypocrite.

Very glad you pointed this out, as the international cabal of hundreds of thousands of researchers (people who literally earn their livings by questioning established norms and developing new ideas and solutions, and are therefor pretty hard to keep toeing the line in this cabal) will certainly be angry at Neil deGrasse Tyson for owning that nice car, and flying in airplanes, and no doubt eating burgers while wearing clothes made in China. We, the cabal, definitely need to chat with Neil, as that luxory sedan only get 19 city/29 highway,... with such hypocritical actions, he may as well be handing out pamphlets telling people about our secret anthropogenic global warming cabal, and its goals to, um, regulate the human contributions to the warming of our one habitable planet.

Sorry I lost the snark there at the end because I forget what reason the conspiracy theorists give for 'AGW shills'... is it somethng to do with a moral argument against Exxon and other energy mega companies? Again, sorry, would appreciate help with that part.

coolhund said:

Haha, yeah. I hear those hypocrite "environmental activists" talking like that too all the time. Especially with the last part you can expose them easily. Buying a new car to save the planet...
Buying a used one is actually the best way to go, if you really care about the environment. But that doesnt offer as much prestige, of course.
Gotta love seeing these public AGW shills too, like Neil deGrasse Tyson, driving around in a 2.5 ton Audi long version with 450 HP.

Remember kids: If youre a hypocrite, nobody with at least half a brain will believe you anymore in anything.

Scary stuff, if the trucks can't stop in time to avoid a highly visible explosion and fire, they clearly couldn't stop in time if traffic stopped. This video should be a part of truck driver training.

BARBARIC Dakota Access Oil Police Cause Mass Hypothermia

bcglorf says...

I was mostly wanting to point out that there was perhaps a touch of bias in the original description.

You are right about it being privately owned land involved. However, the construction and the original encampment and protests were all taking place on land that was privately owned:
Protesters have set up teepee and tent camps on land owned by Energy Transfer Partners to slow the progress of construction and have threatened to block the highway.

http://time.com/4548566/dakota-access-pipeline-standing-rock-sioux/

Since then the camps I understood have been moved off and the highway is now being blocked by the authorities to keep the trespassers from returning, but any references to the basic facts on that if I've got them wrong are welcome.

I'm not especially upset about illegal trespassing and obstruction of the construction to make a point and to protest that the law is wrong and all that. I am particularly bothered though when people begin to feel the case isn't strong enough and start lying about some of the parts that might cause people to question their methods.

@bcglorf

interesting how you classify the protesters as angry mob and rioters.

see,
this all on tribal land, owned by native americans, who welcomed this "angry mob" and "rioters" and the police are there NOT at the behest of the tribal elders, but DAPL,a private corporation attempting to push a private pipeline, for private profit, through privately owned land.

DAPL had even hired private mercenaries to keep the landowners off their construction site, who used attack dogs, mace, rubber bullets and worked alongside the police.it got so bad at one point that they had pulled police officers from FIVE states to keep those pesky landowner rabble down!

on a good note, those ancillary officer teams bowed out after a few days, saying that it was immoral and they were unwilling to participate.so the "police" you are referring to are most likely private security.

Funny how the perspective you tell the story from changes it entirely even while keeping to the overall same facts.....and then add some context.

Grappler Police Bumper - No more PIT maneuver

poolcleaner says...

CONT'D:

Every car in America also comes with a free handgun in place of an emergency hand brake because fuck you and the person in front of you. After you rear end your highway opponents, expect to deal with road rage reprisals. Luckily you have a handgun at the ready. But so does the other guy. Shoot him immediately or he will shoot you.

This also explains why the police murder so many drivers. For fuck's sake every car is sold with a gun! It's fucking America, fuck you: LEAVE.

Man Arrested & Punched for Sitting on Mom's Front Porch

Mordhaus says...

I disagree. Police are not supposed to be our masters, we are not supposed to bow and scrape before them in the hopes we don't get sent to the stocks (or worse). Police are simply supposed to enforce the laws that we, as a society, have decided that we all should follow.

The problem is, we have allowed the police to become more than that through our own lack of care and mismanagement. A policeman should have to undergo more rigorous training and background checks, mental and physical, than any other service we provide to ourselves. Instead we pay them about the same as teachers and we let bullies into the system. We also allow people with significant evidence that they should never have positions of authority due to mental issues to become police. We do not rigorously punish the bad cops, nor prevent them from seeking work elsewhere, leading to the same type of thing that led to catholic molesters being shuffled about to molest again.

As far as police fearing others, can we finally say that the number of police fatalities are far less than the the ones inflicted by police? Yes, we have many guns in the USA, but the few times I recall of a police person being killed by one seem to revolve around them experiencing a retaliation style attack when you would least expect it (and not on a call), or when they are alone and on a remote call location. Yet most of these controversial police shootings of suspects seem to happen when they are in a group of officers with weapons drawn, which I would consider far less of a jumpy situation than being alone on a highway. If I am an officer, with multiple other officers nearby, I have weapons on the suspect (taser or otherwise), why am I more worried than if I am alone with a suspect? It simply doesn't make sense.

Finally, referring back to your resisting comment, have we not seen lately that you can still be shot while doing absolutely no resisting? One man was laying on the ground, hands in the air, while telling a mentally ill patient of his not to do anything that would get him shot, and the man on the ground got shot. Here in Austin we had a mentally ill man running naked in the street and he was shot and killed versus being tasered or taken down. The use of force, and the extremity of it, have not been shown to be merited. So if you can be shot and killed for not resisting, or simply not understanding the commands in the short time you are given to do so, what can we do? Should we carry a pair of handcuffs and a taser so we can pre-apply these items and give the cops less to fear?

bareboards2 said:

The cop had every opportunity to check with Charlie. Another safety issue for the cops? Going to a house they don't know? In that neighborhood?

And crappy as it is, he was resisting. Don't yell at a cop. Even when they are dead wrong. Just don't. Unfortunately that is just the way it is. Life isn't fair. And I know it is on top of hundreds of years of unfairness. And still. Tug your forelock, look at the ground, seethe inside. And you don't get arrested.

"You can't do that." Yes, unfortunately they can.

Did you hear what the female officer said at the very end? She told a fellow officer to "watch your back" when a car pulled up. Why? Because they might have a gun. These officers do live in fear for their own lives -- because we insist on "second amendment rights" and our streets are flooded with guns.

And does anyone think that the female officer was in the wrong here? She tried to calm everything down. She had no control over the cop who freaked when he thought the scary black man was calling on his friends to show up. And she resigned, lost her job, lost her income. I think she did the best she could under the circumstances.
