How is sifting a series of #1 political videos here with a raw, abrasive message any less impactful than getting a milquetoast letter to the editor published in, say, The New York Times or Wall Street Journal?

It's probably better than in-person protest, now that those are essentially kept under media blackout (unless it's sponsored and promoted by Fox News). At a minimum, it can give coverage to a real protest that was missed due to media blackout.

True slacktivism is crap like making a crude joke about Obama on an automotive blog, or going to Paul Krugman's blog and calling him a commie. Or sending hate mail to Keith Olbermann.

If you're serious about an issue though, volunteering for an activist group or political campaign can make a real impact, and I've found it's really satisfying too.

I bet emails are a refreshing change from the hate mail they typically get, it's so hard to read incoherent rantings scribbled in crayon.

I'm just a bitter son of a bitch cuz I tried to sift this a few weeks ago but decided against it when coming across Lucky's video. I give you a begrudging upvote. But I still agree with Lucky.

All the same, Gwiz, I hate you. And your family, too. Please PM me their addresses so that I may send your family hate mail with really sharp edges so they'll get paper cuts.

I know I'm not exactly a Sift veteran, and from what I've seen reading up on old discussions (which, believe me, I've been doing a lot) I'd certainly agree that it was WAY easier to tolerate choggie a couple years back, but to be honest, for me?- he was never, not once, "entertaining" or "thought provoking" (and I did usually read his rants... up to a point; probably until I realized I'd read all of his common "talking points" over again for the third time). Frankly, I'm at a loss as to why he'd have this many 'supporters' (which is why I decided to voice my more 'mainstream' opinion, I guess). For me, he was usually a nuisance, at times a pure troll.

Plus, as far as I'm concerned, flaming an admin's e-mail with hate mail ought to result in a permban, end of story. Dag being the über-nice guy he is shouldn't give anyone the right to be an obnoxious jerk and get away with it.
