Won't You Be My Neighbor - Official Trailer

C-note says...

Fred Rogers believed the pain that exists in our lives every day is even more difficult to process. For this reason, he kept it real on his show, despite how much of his target audience couldn't even spell "real." In fact, he believed that it was even more important to equip them early on with the tools they needed to navigate life's most treacherous moments.

If you watched his show, you might recall that he covered a wide-range of topics, and many of them involved things that even adults struggle to confront. In one episode of Neighborhood, the prince has gone missing, and people correctly assume that it's because he can't deal with his parents' constant fighting at home. In a story arc that lasts several days, people search for him and, when he is found, a classmate tells him that he had been scared the prince was dead.

You know why that's important, that the prince disappeared because of real reasons and not "evil dragon" ones? Because kids at home probably wondered the same thing when Mr. Rogers and his friends couldn't find the prince. Instead of skirting around the issue, he faced it head on, as he did with many issues on his program, showing children that they can learn to cope with difficult emotions like fear, shame, and anger. He understood that kids might be innocent, but they still needed to understand how to live in the real world. He taught them to be open, brave, and resilient while owning their feelings, which was something they could carry with them for the rest of their lives. It wasn't all sweaters and fish-feeding, you know.

Teens React to....Nirvana

ctrlaltbleach says...

When Nirvana came out I was just beginning to transition out of a very sheltered church every Sunday country music loving family. I remember seeing the Nevermind album in a bin outside a music store in the mall and laughing at the absurdity of it. At the time I was rebelling at the weird sounds and antics of country music but I was also rebelling against Grunge music from the thought of it being to popular and trendy among the social outcasts of my own peers that I did not yet identify with. I had started to listen to our local oldies station and was really into the Beach Boys Pet Sounds album when I heard that Kurt had died. Immediately after his passing Mtv would play unplugged quite regularly and thats when I found my appreciation for Nirvana. I became one of there biggest fans which led into other bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Shamshing Pumpkins, Cranberries, Weezer and then later into bands like Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Pixies, and the Flaming LIps. All my musical taste has been shaped and guided by this one band.

S'ok for a gal havin' fun with some equipment-Always hated this fuckin' tune, s'all I heard people fawning-over in the 90s while grunge-pop was leaving that void of dark matter in rock and roll universe... Decent untrained voice, cheesy props....Kept wishing she'd spill that pretentious glass of whatever red wine she put up there to let everyone know she's hip. Meh meh meh.

Comes form having been critiqued over and over again, sorry folks. It's called honesty tinctured with asshole.

Alphabetical 26-Genre Song

Lyrics:

oh my god!

my bleeding heart bleeds blood for you, woah, woah

traveling down this lonely road, woah

facing my hurt, hurting my face, yeah yeah yeah

i chainsaw your face off, watching your brains rotting, kid
drain your veins raw, straining your esophagus

위하여, 음악에 미친 널 [we-hah-yeo, umage michin null]
위하여, 술잔에 비친 널 [we-hah-yeo suljane bichin null]
[translation: "cheers to you who are crazy for the music! / cheers to you who are reflected on the (wine) glass!"]

finding the truth
take it back
finding the truth
it's nothing
change
and tesselate
as we fight to the death

il mio amore è corrisposto

we all dance to the polka
for it is so fun
still dancing to the polka
with my accordion

love is everywhere
smoke is in the air

pick it up, pick it up!
oi! oi! oi! oi!
pick it up, pick it up, pick it up, pick it up!
oi! oi! oi! oi!

a to z, z, z
a to z, z, z
a to z

as we cross the open seas
twoards the call of war
our axes we'll free
guided by the hand of thor

yeah yeah yeah
and our love will never end

You Forgot To Hit Pause...

L0cky says...

This made me really nostalgic. Not just the pixel art, but the music too.

Playing the SNES in a video game haze to a background of melancholic 90's rock, buoyant punk and grunge apathy; smoking too much; drinking cheap beer and vodka (and whatever else we could get our hands on).

Waking up on an old sofa chair bathed in dimly flashing colours and quiet, looping chip music.

Super Metroid; Prince of Persia; A Link to the Past; Secret of Mana; Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Kart.

Spider-Man and Wolverine comics, and Kerrang! on the floor.

And an otherwise, abject poverty.

Seems like another life now.

beardy man explains why indie is shit

shagen454 says...

He is good at what he does. But, it is too simple to generalize music the way he does. Indie is just some dumb label that has been milked by the media, the same way alternative, grunge, emo and all of that shit has been. I want to see the media try to milk a genre like power violence ... lets see if they can do it... because they would never make the amount of money they want out of these sheeples.

Batman Meets The Riddler

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

As someone with a good Riddler costume, I have never cottoned to these reinterpreted Riddlers who are all covered with scars and urban grunge. The Riddler always was and always will be the dapper, arrogant guy in an impeccible suit and a derby. Long live the man in green.

music aint what it used to be. where's the new stuff? (Music Talk Post)

paul4dirt says...

Luckily, some of those good old noisy indie rock guitar bands are still around, i'm seeing Pavement live in 2 weeks, wooh!

Probably not to your surprise i can't think of many recent grunge bands to recommend. Maybe bands like 'future leaders of the world' ?

Half of my now 'favorite' bands are bands i've seen live before i knew em. I think concerts & especially good festivals are still the best way to find good music. Finding good music on the internet is never easy, and takes a lot of patience and sifting work, there's too much crap (for me Spotify's playlist's and last.fm recommendations are a great help). It's possible though, I'd say there's more good new music than 15 years ago. I'll try and check your music submissions to see if i can think of anything to recommend.

Alright, I'm done. If this is cool, i'm out.

Somebody needs to just beat some goddamn sense into these morons. Preferably with something pointy.

Maybe a wooden stake?

That's vampires, but I like your moxie.

Use fire.

Silver bullet, actually.

As for these kids, every generation thinks the one after it is ridiculous. Mods, punks, goths, ravers, grunge kids, nu-metallers, this is just the latest iteration of teens seeking attention.

Fortunately there's an easy cure: they'll grow up and realise how stupid they looked.
