My parents, being from Oklahoma and great country music fans had great expectations when they heard about this new show coming out. Finally a good country music show. When it debuted and was actually corn-pone humour and sterotyped characters they were kind of offended and we never really watched it. Buck Owens was great though.

I sincerely appreciate the correction. While the source was incorrect, the quote yet remains 100% true. You will never tax your way to prosperity and you'll achieve nothing by demonizing the wealthy.

Here's another quote you're sure to enjoy. Google it to your hearts' content.

FDR's treasury secretary, Henry Morgenthau, wrote in his diary: "We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. ... We have never made good on our promises. ... I say after eight years of this administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started ... and an enormous debt to boot!"

If only the left and Odumbo could prove me wrong with jobs and prosperity instead of empty rhetoric and blame, I'd gladly admit to being wrong. Until then, I voted the bastards out November 2nd and it felt great. Expect it again in 2012.

I really don't understand why Ameri-marxists don't vote with their feet and move to already-socialist Europe...just try to avoid Greece...they're having a bit of trouble.

QM, instead of reading whatever right wing blog all these slogans are coming from (Ameri-marxists? HAH GOLD!), can you take the trouble to pick up a copy of The Economist one week? This week's edition will do you quite well. They're economically right and socially left.

I think what you'll find is that most pragmatists regardless of their economic persuasion have realized 3 things about the current economic situation in the US:

1) Keynesian monetary policy works and that no sensible economist believes that the stimulus has not helped to reduce unemployment from the much higher level 12/13%+ it would have reached otherwise.

2) Spending will have to be trimmed in social security/medicare/medicaid/pensions and defense, and the retirement age will no doubt rise.

3) The Bush tax cuts were the single biggest contributors to the expansion of the federal debt from a balanced budget before the global financial crisis hit. Over time, taxes will have to rise to cope with the costs of medicare/pensions because of an ageing population.

Zenyatta - Amazing Comeback Win at the Breeder's Cup (2009)

brycewi19 says...

I completely disagree, westy. How can this sport be equated to rolling dice?

Yes, training is very much a part of it. What sport isn't? In fact I'd say training factors a lot more in to it than breeding. How many great horses sire other horses with great expectations that simply fizzle out? Plenty.

And how many horses come out of nowhere to give us wonderful stories - frequently.

Besides the point, when you get to these big races like the Triple Crown races and the Breeder's Cup, ALL the horses have strong lineage. So it really comes down to training and, to some extent, the cunning of the jockey.

This is a beautiful sport that, frankly, has eaten itself alive over the past couple decades. They haven't marketed themselves well to the public like other sports (see: NASCAR) over the years. And that's a shame. But I see a huge resurgance in popularity. Unfortunately, the sport won't see a big resurgance until there's a Triple Crown winner. And who knows when that'll be.

Hahaha that reminds me of a quote from the classic movie, Orgasmo: "Never quote Dickens in my apartment again!"

Oh I'm so terribly sorry dear, I really didn't want to hurt your feelings, because I respect you immensely - as a personality, an auteur and an entertainer. I simply can't stand Dickens, the little whiny bitch.

It really hurt my feelings when you downvoted my plagiarism of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, chapter 1.

Pan's Labyrinth - The Creatures

BlueGeorgeWashington says...

The TV trailers on this movie were, and still are, COMPLETELY MISLEADING. Now they are trying to tell us that this is a Tolkien-esque type movie---what an insult to Professor Tolkien!

We went to see it with great expectations and were completely disappointed. Many of the scenes were the most grotesque violence we've ever seen---like the demented General multilating the face of a cooperative humble prisoner. The poor little psychotic girl being shot and murdered at the end was about as sad and depressing as it could get. The creepy low-voiced sounding devil/mantis Pan figure was plain weird. The message given---reality is so violent and cruel the little innocent girl retreats into a weird fantasy-world and winds up getting murdered anyway. What's the point of showing this crap!

I womder about those of you who "loved" this kind of movie or thought it was "genius". Where are your heads at?

Hope no children are psychologically maimed for life after seeing this NIGHTMARE of a movie!
