Lucas di Grassi on how quickly Formula E has evolved

vil says...

This is all fine, why not. IMHO Formula 1 is basically approaching this from the other shore most of the time.

Racing cars used to be about adrenalin, taming a beast, surviving unlikely odds and so on, an adventure for gentlemen.

In the last 40 years it has become a competition in pushing buttons, mostly.

If racing cars can have ABS, automatic gearboxes, power steering and all, why not an electric motor?

I still think it is sad and I am glad I saw F1 in the 70s.

How Movie Trailers Manipulate You

viewer_999 says...

Maybe I'm just a bitter old prick, but a lot about trailers today frankly annoy the hell out of me. This video goes a long way to explain the "why" -- because there are these formulas, these companies that all copy each other's methods, etc., it just leads to so much... sameness. They need some new ideas, creativity, something more than the same rehash. No, the "nut punch" doesn't always work -- it pisses me off, because it's so trite, so unoriginal, so typical, so predictable, so done-to-death. Trailer makers: get a new idea and use it.

This 11-Year-Old Racing Prodigy Is Breaking Records

oritteropo says...

She holds the U17 Formula 4 lap record for Okayama International Circuit with a time of 1 minute 32.8 in the under 17 category, despite being too young to actually compete in F4 races (she needs to be 16 to enter).

So, which records is she breaking?

Vice - China’s Hottest Boy Band Is Made Up Of All Girls

mxxcon says...

None. That's what people are being fed the world over and people will take it because they like it.
This is progressing and evolving at a very fast pace.
Religion had thousands of years to perfect its formula. This is catching up much faster.

What kind of societal lash-back will such a level of robotic, consumer conformity result in?

Next time you're in Iceland, be sure to do a formula offroad driving session. ;-)
I was too broken for such a ride, but it looks awesome!

Milk?

elrondhubbard says...

All humans drink milk from infancy (unless they're fed formula instead). Lactose intolerance sets in with age, as the body stops making lactase, the enzyme that digests lactose. Hence this commercial is marketing milk for kids.

Xaielao said:

Aren't must asians lactose intolerant, as their ancient ancestors never drank milk on a regular basis? Interestingly it was evolution that gave neolithic european and middle eastern peoples the ability to digest and process lactose as adults, a genetic mutation that soon became widespread.

But for asia, must be a difficult market to break into.

Please re enlighten me the 3/5 clause...

It was to limit the racist southern politicians ( all Democrat)from getting more voting power. This was a provision that was not directly about race but about status and the allocation of political power. Free blacks were counted in exactly the same way as whites. The clause did not say that a slave was three-fifths of a person. The clause said nothing about free blacks, who were treated by the clause exactly as free whites were.

Rather, the clause provided a mathematical formula that allowed for the allocation of representatives in Congress that factored in the slave population. No slaves could vote in the country (although free blacks could vote in a number of states), and the clause did not provide a voice for slaves. This was about the distribution of political power among the states.

So yes you can thank Republicans for limiting the power from the racist KKK loving political south.

How To Make A Blockbuster Movie Trailer

Can't wait for someone to apply this formula to slow, thoughtful movies like My Dinner with Andre, or On Golden Pond. (yes, I'm old, though I've only seen one of those examples)

Adam Ruins Everything - Why Baby Formula Isn't Poison

MaxWilder says...

Part of the problem with unnecessary formula use is that the mother can stop producing milk. The act of breastfeeding lets the mom's body know it should keep making milk for the next mealtime.

If you give a poor person a week's worth of formula, they might just stop lactating. Then they're *stuck* buying formula until the baby can be weaned from the bottle.

I don't know how true it is, but this was part of the accusations surrounding Nestle's aggressive formula marketing.

Adam Ruins Everything - Why Baby Formula Isn't Poison

yellowc says...

Talk about over extending an issue. The vast majority of the boycott stems around developing countries lack of sanitisation options. This has little to do with baby formula itself.

Let's destroy the reputation of a product that helps millions of babies and the stern non-use might actually be harming some babies, so we can put a maybe tiny dent in one of the biggest food companies in the world! Never mind all the other companies that make formula!

Yay! What a great idea!

How about they focus their charitable efforts in to providing cleaner sources of water in those developing countries instead, seems a tad more useful.

Seems like there could be more talked about why formula got a bad name. Thanks, Nestle...
