Traditional Values satire
My only issue with this is the faulty logic of the people often ridiculing Victorian traditions* not recognising the inane traditions of the cultures they find "exotic" (in a very colonial manner).
So it's OK for a Sikh to wear a turban or a Muslim woman to wear a burka but the Amish are the ones that's nuts. It just doesn't make sense.
Coming from the most secularised country in the world (Sweden) where forced marriages are accepted (for those adorable minorities) this complacency bothers me to no end.
* not that I have any sympathy for those
New Rules: Internet Cute, 9/11 , iPhone, and Breast Feeding
I usually think Maher is right on. but I think he's way off base on the breast feeding bit and activism. I think he uses horrible examples and faulty logic.
EV-1 : Who Killed The Electric Car ? OPEC ? US Govt ?
A good point overcast. We rely on coal-fire plants near where I live.
If transportation (private, public, service) were battery powered from grid-electricity, the focus would then be towards cleaner, more efficient power plants (mainly through legislation and friggin' incentives). Strickly regulating power plant carbon output and focusing money and prestige on the development of related technolgies at the level of electricity supplier could be more productive than building a new fueling infrastructure.
The idea, which I'm sure you're aware of, is that there are multiple ways to get electricity, while there is one widely accepted way to move a car/truck/bus/semi and hardly a strong challenger in sight. Hydrogen-powered vehicles being 'cleaner' relies on the prediction that there will be breakthroughs in the process of hydrogen fuel manufacturing (which I agree is faulty logic).
Get 'em while they're young
My brain switches off after "the Devil makes you disobey, but God makes you obey", such faulty logic is mind-crippling.
How many others couldn't make it all the way through this?
