It's hard to be a girl in a country song

Jerykk says...

@SDGundamX

So you genuinely believe that make-up has nothing to do with sexuality? Make-up makes women look more attractive to men. That's why it exists. There is no distinction between "attractive" and "sexually attractive." They are one and the same. Society tells women that without make-up, they are unattractive. It's also a double-standard, as men are not expected to wear make-up (unless they're on TV).

And basic hygiene is not a valid analogy. Hygiene is a matter of practicality. If you didn't bathe or wear deodorant, you would stink and annoy those around you, increasing friction and reducing productivity in the workplace. Make-up, on the other hand, is purely cosmetic. It serves no purpose other than making yourself more sexually appealing. It's the same reason why women are expected to shave their legs and armpits and have slim but curvy bodies. It's the same reason why they wear high heels.

Idealized gender representations exist solely for the sake of increasing your sexual appeal. If you don't live up to these representations, society looks down upon you and makes you feel like shit. Women wear make-up because they are insecure about their appearance. They're insecure because society has created notions of beauty that are unattainable through natural means.

TYT - Israel's devastation of Gaza

shinyblurry says...

My question is, if Canada or Mexico were being controlled by terrorists and were firing rockets into our country and killing people, how long do you think it would take for the national outrage to develop and a ground campaign sent out to utterly destroy the capability of the enemy to hurt us any longer? I don't see us putting up with it, or any other country for that matter. Yet, for some reason there is a double standard with Israel that people think they should put up with it.

That said, I would agree that Israel has a lot to answer for as far as civilian deaths; there is a lot of racism and insensitivity and brutality. America isn't any better.. We dropped two atomic bombs on Japan to destroy their war machine and killed over 250k people. Iraq probably had quite a few more, yet we are lecturing to Israel to stop trying to remove the terrorists who live in their back yard. We would never stand for it so why are we telling Israel that they should. I am against war and I think Israel has crossed the line many times but I still recognize that countries are asking them to do something they themselves would never do.

What is Israel to Do?(answer: get out of occupied territory)

shinyblurry says...

If Mexico shot 2000 rockets into the US, do you think we as a nation would overlook that or do you think we would attack? I'm not in favor of war but I think the idea that Israel should allow Hamas, a known terrorist organization, to shoot missles into its territory with impunity is simply a hypocritical double standard that we would never follow in the same situation.

You actively admit supporting terrorist organisations? Why stop at Hamas then, you can’t have double standards now can you. Here I’ll help you:

"There are no terrorist targets in Iraq. Occupied people have a right to resist, both ethically and under international law. Al-Qaida rocket fire/suicide bombings isn't terrorism, it isn't war, but a ghetto uprising; just as doomed and just as noble."

Do you think it’s noble to fire rockets out of hospitals hiding behind defenceless civilians?

The whole world expect Russia,Turkey and China sees Hamas as a terrorist organisation, maybe you should consider moving from the UK gorilla warfare man.

To Catch a Predator - Hot Teacher

jwray says...

I think the point of the video is to mock the double standard. Reversing the sexes changed the perception because there's no longer a "damsel in distress" vibe. People are more apt to acknowledge the sexual autonomy of men as agents acting of their own free will, and from that perspective Chris Hansen becomes ridiculous. Anglophone countries' ages of consent of 16-18 are higher than most of continental Europe's 14, and I suspect it's something to do with Victorian fear and loathing of sex. Certainly law almost never gets made on the basis of empirical data such as psychology research. Age of consent can be justified as a tradeoff between the quantity of foolish people below the age who will do things they later regret, and the quantity of unfoolish people below the age whose freedom will be harmed. Government should be circumspect about protecting people from their own free will.

thus perpetuating the double standard where if it's a male teacher and female student, it's horrible, but if it's a female teacher and male student, we're all giving him hi 5s.

THIS SITE IS A JOKE (Comedy Talk Post)

BoneRemake says...

@chingalara

Your logic is flawed and your words stink of poisonous vomit !

lets keep this fight going ! <--- as in that is all this turned into is one big pissy man boy match Edit - not even that, just one person in particular who was side tracking and making personal attacks in comments again, see how you can enjoy the double standard like everyone else choggie ? You' re here still after your little freak out in the sift talk, or the stuff you wrote above or the other day, you can enjoy it like everyone else, but you sure like to flip the coin and berate it at the same time, although we all have learned you lack logic and reasoning skills. But that is just my opinion,
I guess this is what comments this post are for hey ? pretty well the reason I am writing this now. write what you want time.

So to answer your only sensible question fuckinglittlethingoverthere - as you described it the first time I asked you what it meant. Baxter the bunny weights in at 2.76 pounds.. and just jumped on my lap. I have learned this is not for pets though, this is for treats. so I do not try and pet him because he just swats lightly very very quickly at my finger tips and actually kinda growls a little, which makes me laugh.

He is fully grown and if I were to cook him like a psycho would cook their pet, as you suggested he would be like eating a quarter of a small frying chicken ( NOte to self *do not put palm plant fronds near top of chair - rabbit climbs chair and eats palm leaf* )

Also I do not think video sift is what that orignal poster said it is.

The sites a joke for reasons other than this user has chimed-in without understanding the jyst of 'reading anything before purchasing:' Here's a short list:

Hypocrisy/Double standards: Popularity fuels status through brown-nosing and robotic insincerity garners votes rather than content quality prompting the same.

Most people are afraid to cast a down-vote for content rather, they do it when they don't 'like' someone. Petty, pussified, and worthlessly dishonest.

Others, users with nothing better to do than to single out another for divisive abuse when his/her opinion or message doesn't jibe with their cloistered or developmentally-disabled world view, push the envelope with sophomoric rambling or graffiti in the form of retarded commentary on profiles or blatant rule-breaking while admins turn a lazy blind,or otherwise complicate eye....Seek professional help or leave the house every once in a while....Works wonders, kids.

Cocksuckers-by-choice, continue to bring the overall quality of the site down with inane ink-well-dipping and hair-pulling or other wise goading for example, Christians, those with conservative-leaning sensibilities, or constructive-critics, enough so that they stop contributing altogether, lurk, or disappear.

From time-to-time, it has been the job of the strongest-willed and long-suffering,to gently guide these users up the pathway upwards and into their own asses rather than enjoy the place and make whoopee with great content....

Yeah mygamesarefun, don't care if you joined by mistake or were simply dull, there is indeed an air of douche here that's entrenched which continually befouls the collective spirit of community.

Won't name names on my list, cocksuckers-by-choice have mirrors on walls in their funk-caves, down the hall from their game-controllers and pizza-stained and blistered microwaves, as well as the lavatories at their shit jobs or in their fucking mother's basement....Any doubts? Just look at the banter above and save your fucking money.

Oh and.....Have a NICE day.

(cue comment down-votes, and fuck-off.)

Some of the most egregious of violators are sure to chime-in on this thread, stay tuned for more guano, coming-up next.

Huckabee is Not a Homophobe, but...

chingalera says...

So the smiley-face is supposed to excuse ad-hom, bunny-man?? You could have called him a 'cunt' 'asshole', 'dipshit', any of these would be in violation of civil rules of decorum.

Could this obvious hypocritical double-standard applied to users who disgust you speak to a fundamental personality flaw which makes you just as anti-social as you accuse others of being?

Could pushing the rules of the sift to the brink indicate a personal loathing of anyone who has an opinion other than your own that you then personally deem 'unworthy' of your time when it could have been a springboard for another direction in this thread?

Maybe not, you gave Yogi time enough to label him 'twat' (which I suppose isn't so bad since 'twat' is socially acceptable in jest, etc. in certain countries.

Use that term with reference to a woman in America and see how long it takes your nose to flow red.

How about ya go feed yer bunny and who cares why people of faith bother you so much, sounds like a personal malfunction. Perhaps everything really is, all about you.

yea everything is about you ya twat.

What is Going on in Venezuela.

9547bis says...

Wow, I couldn't even pass the 19 seconds mark.

Yes, the "illegitimate government Venezuela has today", if it were a more right-wing administration doing exactly the same things, would be denounced by all of the leftists around the world supporting it today as clientelist, nepotist, incompetent, and corrupt -- because that's what it is (and because double standards are so convenient).

But nonetheless, the "illegitimate government Venezuela has today" was elected last April, and then again in December, in what international observers called fair and democratic elections.

So this is just transparently dishonest *Propaganda.

Ellen Page Announces She's Gay At Las Vegas H.R. Conference.

Thats the thing though. LBGT doesnt get prosecuted for their mob-like activities. Its a double standard. They try to force their lifestyle onto everybody. I dont think thats right. They should respect what people do religiously.

If you believe the baker should be able to turn away a gay couple on the basis of having the freedom to express their beliefs in who they conduct business with, you're free to do so. But if you want to be consistent, then you should also believe that the gay couple should be able to express their opinions to others about the baker's bigoted practice.

If you're taking about someone threatening or blackmailing another person, there's a legal code you can refer to, and that's entirely a different matter.

John Stossel Gets Schooled on the 4th Amendment

VoodooV says...

yeah If I got a problem with surveillance, I can vote it out. I can't vote out a terrorist attack. I can't vote out a CEO

demonstrate to me that they're using this surveillance to harass civilians or using it for some other demonstrably oppressive way then I might be on board.

Till then, you're just mad that they merely have the info, which is hypocritical because the corporations collected the data in the first place, but people only got mad when gov't had it = hypocrisy.

turn off your cell phone and your computer and go live in the mountains if you want to prove you're not a hypocrite.

Gov't is not force, yes you do have a choice, you can leave the country, you can contact your congressperson.

Gov't is you

And yes, I too have anger fatigue.

That was a nice dodge he did when confronted with the argument that the gov't hasn't abused the information. He just pivoted it away.

I am sick and tired of the double standard between public and private sectors

And yes, it does creep me out that I'm agreeing with Stossel.

Israel attack on Syria again.

bcglorf says...

Yes, double standards can be found anywhere and everywhere you look in geopolitics, astute observation there. Are you interested in adding anything more than that to the discussion though?

There is an actual real world behind all of this. People are dying during our discussion. I've lost patience for people decrying an action without being willing to put forward and defend an alternative. The burden of proof lies as much on those championing inaction as it does on those championing action. Do you believe Israel should not intervene while arms are shipped to Hezbollah? Would you prefer that? It's a simple enough position, but unless you are gonna stand behind it or something else then you're not taking things as seriously as they deserve to be.

I know my Middle East history and have no illusions about who is and is not the aggressor. My point is that there is ALWAYS a double standard. That you took this as an attack on Israel's moral standing simply highlights your own double standard.

By the way, the extensive temporary exodus is now 65 years temporary with no talk about right of return, at least not to the people born in pre-Israel Palestine. And any talk of right of return by the Palestinian Authority has been used as grounds for abandoning peace/settlement talks by the Israeli government. Just a little fact check, not a sign of partisanship.
