leon (the professional) deleted scene-leons past

This whole movie had a thread of sexual tension between the two. At least, that's what I thought about it

totally agree but with the directors cut we get to see so much more and many things that were only implied before are given voice.
1.matilda is 12.remember that age? when emotions could become like a thunderstorm?imagine living in that fucked up..unloving family.no safety..no comfort and all you have is your 4 yr old brother whom you take care of.
2.leon is the adult and in the 1994 release we see him respecting boundaries but he seems a bit..off..in the original.THIS scene in particular clears all of that up.we see that leon shut down a part of himself at 19.THAT part of him never grew up nor matured in any substantive way.

so while matilda has found her knight in shining armor to bestow all that pre-pubescent hormones onto,we find out the leon is around the same age emotionally.
it is due to this very unique situation that we get to see leon literally morph in front of us.
kinda like the grinch but with guns, blood and screaming.
i would go as far to say that the character arc for leon is the most profound i have ever seen from any movie.

Terry Pratchett on religion

moodonia says...

Sorry to step in at the end of the discussion, but regarding the gospels that didnt make it and different bible versions, I used to wonder about that and did some research years ago.

Given that the early gospels were all being hand copied by people who usually werent all that literate and were doing so in secret under pain of death (often), given the different areas/congregations around the Mediterranean separated by what were great distances, differences were widespread, some were minor, spelling and punctuation changing meanings, others were major changes that suited one particular christian sects interpretation. When time came to put em all together, they had to choose what was agreed upon by most people.

Naturally this pissed some people off, made others happy, and ensured endless conspiracy theories, and careers for people like Dan Brown

Incidentally this also happened in Judaism (at least according to the History channel, I havent talked to any ancient scholars about that)and others religions. Guess you cant suit all of the people all of the time.

I would compare it to DVD boxsets, you've got your theatrical cut, your directors cut, extended version, unrated version etc. Pick the one you like best or don't.

Edit:
BTW I dont claim to be an expert on anything so I only paraphrase what I've read/heard from people who do know what they are on about

I thought it was great and will definitely see it again while anxiously awaiting the 30 minute longer directors cut. Zack Snyder did an awesome balancing act, keeping the plot moving without having to sacrifice too much of the original story, and it looked perfect, which is rarely the case in comic book movies. Nice performances and a good score (except for the cheesy guitar stuff and some of the played-to-death licensed songs).

It's also nice to see something so dark and morally conflicted on screen. I took pleasure knowing that others in the room would be frustrated with the awesomely atypical and unpredictable ending.

It would have been nice if they'd added a couple minutes of footage throughout the film to set up the New Frontiersman, so that the very end would have more meaning. It also would have been nice to work in a little bit of the newspaper man and his relationship with his comic book addicted non-customer.

Leaving out the pirate tale seemed like a necessity and the major change at the end was actually pretty cool - maybe even an improvement.

I really don't get why so many are panning this film.

Sweet. I just saw the directors cut last week for the first time, with the unicorn dream and so on, finally made sense... but I still don't get the eye with reflections of the skyline... is it the replicant who gets the voight-kampff test's eye?

so cool. I just saw this movie for the first time about 4 weeks ago. I loved it, but I was watching the super extra long directors cut that was like 4 hours long, and it almost killed me.

I have the directors cut, it gives it a bendis/brubaker murder mystery we dont see at all. Is it perfect? Hell no. Is it a LOT better than the original? Yeah.
