Sunday Show Roundup: McCain's Bleak Week

Constitutional_Patriot says...

>> ^NetRunner:

I didn't realize they had a state-by-state prediction market.
If someone wanted to gamble on this election (and I'm getting sorely tempted to), I'd say buy stock in Virginia -- Obama is more likely to win that than Nevada, IMO.

====================================================
I'd say buy stock in Diebold or ES&S ftw!:

... there was also an amazing newscast report video that showed the new electronic voting machines in California were decertified by some officials. This video has been stripped off of youtube several months and I haven't been able to find it since.

I did find this interesting article about a voting fraud investigator that found out "too much"...

Dan Rather to journalists: you're doing it wrong

frekkld says...

This speech seems to me to be a truncated version of the one Edward R. Murrow gave to the RTNDA Convention in Chicago on October 15, 1958. This isn't really a new perspective, which isn't to say it isn't one we should be hearing. I just feel that Dan Rather was content to tow the party line for so long, without any dissent, he was on the inside of the corporate news media and was fine to live there until he was forced to take the fall for the Bush National Guard story. I think he has done a lot of great work throughout his career, but to proffer this idea as a new one makes me think he is either naive, or was perhaps complacent to be blind for a time, while he benefited off of the machine he now lacerates.

Edward R. Murrow speech is here: http://www.turnoffyourtv.com/commentary/hiddenagenda/murrow.html

Of course he's liberal, but nothing he said in those links was wrong.

The 2nd link had it right...

"Bill Moyers is, as Dan Rather would say - a partisan political operative, cloaked in the auspices of a journalist taking tax money from the public against the will of the majority."

...my point all along.

And last time I checked, Fox news and the reactionary "new media" aren't taking over. Huffington Post, CrooksAndLiars.com, and Daily Kos each have more hits per day than Free Republic, National Review, or Michelle Malkin. Huffington Post gets more hits than MM, NR, and Freep combined times 3. Slate.com, which is definitely to the left of Fox, gets more hits than MM, NR, and Freep combined, but half as much as Huffington Post. TheDailyShow.com gets 10 times as many hits as billoreilly.com. This is all from Alexa.

The miracle is there's any center/right-of-center content at all. Coming full circle, 20 years ago Moyers wouldn't have to deal with any resistance. The ratings/numbers aren't a big deal, sensationalism versus truth.

Thanks for writing. I appreciate your willingness to debate and/or offer an alternative point of view to my alternative point of view. haha!

Karl Rove -Dick Nixon Connection - Dan Rather Reports (1972)

Moore vs Blitzter

Slyrr says...

You kidding? CNN, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, PBS, et. al have done little but slam Bush since he was elected - before and after 9/11. They've given screen time to Cindy Sheehan, the Jersey Girls, Michael Moore, anyone they can find who will say the words that their 'reporters' are too gutless to say - 'Bush is Hitler', 'worst economy since the great depression', 'Bush lied, people died', 'no evidence of nukes', 'Karl Rove should be imprisoned w/out trial', 'our soliers are like nazis in their death camps', the list goes on and on. Lapdogs to Bush? I guess that's why Olbermann is demanding their impeachment, and why Dan Rather pushed forged documents to try and destroy Bush during the 04 elections, and how come every time liberals lose, they cry 'voter fraud', but every time they win it's 'the voice of the people'.

What it must be like - to be so blinded by hatred to the exclusion of logic and reason. We all saw what happened when Moore ran into an opposing point of view - he started gnashing his teeth and stamping his feet in rage. Because he THOUGHT these reporters were supposed to be on 'his' side and say nothing against him.

Fact is, this movie Moore made is so wrong in so many instances, that even the 'news' network that wrote glowing reviews for it couldn't believe all his distortions and inaccuracies. I guess Moore is still miffed that his movie is getting the tar beat out of it at the box office. 11th place and going down, down, down....
I'm sure he agrees with free speech - but only the free speech that agrees with his point of view. CNN has just seen an example of how 'free' Moore would like speech to be by trying to stomp on them. Facts and stats that refute Moore need not apply in his brave new world...

Bill Moyer's "Buying the War" is online and streaming (Sift Talk Post)

plastiquemonkey says...

highlights:
--peter beinert can't explain what value he adds to the world by repeating what important people tell him
--dan rather's analysis of the soft coercion inside the newsroom sounds like something chomsky wrote in 1988
--tim russert: "i just wish my sources would have called". followed by bob simon "i just picked up the phone and called my sources".

Aussies take on Fox News

quantumushroom says...

Show should be called Two Unfunny Assclowns.

1) Geraldo is a liberal on a conservative show, but there's no token conservative on CNN or any of the other 4 major liberal "news" networks.

2) Geraldo's role as a commentator is just that; he's not making shit up and calling it factual news like, say, Dan Rather.

3) Geraldo's comments refer to the mournful egg-headed fellow, who raped a 7-year-old girl then buried her alive. Don't worry, liberals, there's sure to be assholes with candles protesting this vermin's too-merciful execution.

4) Chuck Norris called to let you know the dingo ate your baby.

You can call me Jeff

wow, I can see what you mean when you say it's like Cocaine, It's been going on for a year now, with these O'Reilly clips? Why is he still on the air if Dan Rather presented this type of journalism he would have been imprisoned.

Either way, I spend a lot of time online and these O'Reilly clips blow my time every time I see them (I don't get Fox News where I live, I only see them on the youtube)

In reply to your comment:
Thanks for the reply Mr. Fed. Or is it Mr. Quip? I appreciate your response. I just see a ton of aggravation on this site generated when people watch them and I wonder why people keep coming back for more. I guess it reminds me when I tried cocaine (many, many years ago) and ended up wondering why people wanted to spend that much money to feel so agitated.

Oh, and congrats on the gold. 20 more to go for a hundy!

Sc

Oh, and P.S. - Congrats to me, this was my 1000th comment.

In reply to your comment:
If for any reason silvercord it's just an interesting analysis of the current culture of our society. Bill O'Reilly is one of the most popular "News" casters in this "post 9/11" world. If/when shit hits the fan again I am sure these clips will be good evidence of why... Plus they blow my mind

Unusual Evacuations & Power-Downs in the WTC Prior To 9/11

joshd says...

His comment "Dan Rather ... blurts out the truth 'Boy, that looks just like a controlled demolition.'" gets huge laughs from the audience. 9/11 was a lot of things, but it was never funny.

I'm so sick of these conspiracy theories. I have yet to see a one that presents a *single* convincing theory clearly and concisely. They simply throw what they can against a wall and see what sticks. The techniques that these documentaries use are not new. They employ emotional language, play on pre-conceived ideas and fears (e.g. Bush is bad) and fire off points so fast that you don't have time to react. Viewers don't have time to fully process each point before the presentation moves on. They are forced to either accept what they have seen as the truth, or stop the presentation before investing hundreds of hours into researching the "facts" they are presented with. I think I know what most people who watch this will do.

To those who believe that there was a conspiracy, could you please provide me with a resource that clearly explains that main arguments behind you belief? Such a resource should be free from emotion. It should simply present the facts and then allow me the opportunity to explore more. I would honestly be interested to see such a resource.
