The Lilium Jet – The World's First All-Electric VTOL Jet

Mystic95Z says...

Personal flight will never happen for the masses unless its automated flight with awareness of everything else around you. Otherwise its a cluster fuck waiting to happen.

MOAB Used In Afghanistan Against Daesh

transmorpher says...

$314 million for one bomb that does more damage to terrain than any enemies.

You could have dropped 1000 cluster bombs for the same price and done way more targeted damage, or 10000 JDAMS / Laser guided bombs.

This is all just Trumps ego. He wanted to show how serious he is, and nobody would let him drop a nuke, so they used his short attention span to dangle this MOAB in from of him to make him feel good.

"Yeah, yeah, it's the biggest one we have"

He's not even good at war mongering.

Denmark has a lesson for us all

bareboards2 says...

@vil Perhaps. It is also a standard exercise in acting classes.

Instead of the teacher calling things out, it is the participants who say something true about themselves. It is to teach students to be honest, and brave, and to see that they are not freaks. Much like this video. (Although how do you know this isn't real, this "ad"? People could have volunteered to do this. Although the single bisexual didn't ring true to me -- either folks were lying or it is indeed scripted.)

Anyway, in the acting exercise, instead of boxes on the floor, it is just people standing around. Someone calls out something true about themselves, and people who have done that join them, those who haven't move away and cluster together, so you end up with two groups. Constantly moving, constantly changing, the power shifting, the emotions shifting. It is great fun and can be scary as hell as you decide how honest you want to be. How honest you CAN be.

Two favorite memories of this exercise in classes I took:

1. A guy calls out -- "everyone who has ever peed in a sink". Every guy in the class joins him -- and one woman. We all about lost it.

2. Here in PT, small town, had a class with about 25 people in it. One brave man, Jim P, I'll never forget -- he had the bravery to call out -- "everyone who has ever had a restraining order placed against them." And everyone moved away from him and he stood there alone. Only time I have ever seen that happen, someone standing alone.

CRISPR-Cas9
Bring me a gene
Encoding for a specific protein
Make a few snips at this coded locus
You work so well inside a streptococcus

Without your scissors in my chromosome
Cut me up and do it clean
CRISPR-Cas9 bring me a gene

CRISPR-Cas9
Keep me a gene
A viral sequence you've already seen
Chopped into bits and stored as genomic
With clustered repeats
That are palindromic
Cas9
Bind with this code
Use it to target infections of old
Immunized like a vaccine
CRISPR-Cas9 keep me a gene

CRISPR-Cas9
Cut me a gene
With a precision that I've never seen
Unzip a strand and interrogate it
Seek out your sequence until you locate it

Lock into place
And do your job as endonuclease
Chop just like a guillotine

Illegal dumping by Nevada company

newtboy says...

Hey buddy. Just a heads up. If you turn them into the EPA, you're protected by the whistleblower laws. That means they can't fire you after you turn them in....AND you get to keep 10% of the massive fine they should get for dumping what you've already dumped. Do it today. You probably already have cancer, and that neighborhood is now a cancer cluster of the future.
The person who directed them to do this should be locked into one of those drums for a week with whatever they're dumping. If there's anything left, prosecute him after that.
That said...."they told me to" is never an excuse for doing what you KNOW is wrong. Putting other's lives and health at risk to safeguard your terrible job makes you evil. Just saying.

Rashida Jones coaches Stephen on how to be a Feminist

enoch says...

so i am sitting here drinking my coffee reading this thread and i have to say...

depressing.

so many wonderful people that i admire and respect getting twisted about?

words.

not the intent,nor over-all context..but words.

i can see where @newtboy is coming from, and what he is laying down is pretty non-controversial.i also see what @bareboards2 is laying down, and is not really in opposition to what newt is talking about.

both ideologies can reside in the same context and not be in conflict.in fact they compliment each other and ....and maybe i am reading their positions wrong..they actually agree on the fundamentals.

@bareboards2 actually addressed this by pointing out that "tone" can be misinterpreted.(good for you BB) and really the exchange between newt and BB was about their own self-identification.

yet this entire thread is almost exclusively focusing on words, and the gravitas and weight given to those words by the individual, which is subjective.

i feel newts pain.
i had a run where i was posting videos exposing hyper-militant third wave feminists and how they were using the justice system to punish those who disagreed with them, and every self-identified feminist came out of the wood work to declare their disappointment in me and defend the very thing they identified with.

what confused me was why people would even attempt to defend that absolute cluster fuck of abuse as somehow even being remotely to do with actual feminism.until i realized that many hadn't even watched the video or read the articles .so they were not defending those third wave feminists that had abused a justice system but rather defending a term that they self-identified as.

after long (and i mean long ..@Payback is still in therapy) back and forths between myself and fellow sifters.when i FINALLY got them to address the specific situation, not one...not ONE sifter..felt morally obligated to defend those feminists actions.

why?
because taken on its singular merits, those feminists were fucking wrong.

then why all the defensive posturing?
why the passive aggressive swipes at me?
and the exhaustive back and forths just to get self-identified feminists to at least admit that those particular feminists had abused their position to punish a man for simply disagreeing.

because they were defending feminism in general.
because they self-identified as feminists and failed to see the situation as it was and jumped to defend a WORD that they happened to identify with.

as a whole we can,as a society hold onto philosophies that are not mutually exclusive.
so you can be a feminist and a humanist.
or a humanist and an MRA advocate.

@bareboards2 may be a feminist but i know that if she witnessed me being harassed and discriminated against she would jump to my defense,as would @newtboy.

there are people who identify as something and yet can still be major dickweeds.so what they self-identify as does not automatically give them a pass.

so dont get so caught up in identity politics my friends.
they are just words after all.
just listen to the person talking, they will reveal if they are a total tool soon enough.how they self-identify is irrelevant.

Late Night with Seth Meyers: Kansas Tax Cuts

eric3579 says...

Conservative Republican Tax cuts for the wealthiest ruins the state financially and then the same conservatives auctions off sex toys and porn. Then has the balls to cut social programs to try and make up for short fall. Way to go Kansas maybe you got what you deserved. A *quality cluster fuck. Run by an enormous dick head.

If you sneeze, this cute Corgi will fetch a tissue

eric3579 says...

I agree that adults enjoy it as much as kids, but that has no bearing on it being a valid choice for the channel. It fits the definition of the channel ("suitable for children to enjoy"). The only reason i made a point was because, it was the ONE time ant got it right, when it comes to adding the kids channel. You would be surprised at how many times hes had sifters personally define the kids channel for him. Not that any of it matters really. Many videos are assigned to the wrong channels as defined. The whole thing's a cluster fuck. I say we scrap any channel that is not obvious (in definition) by the word used to denote the channel. Annnnddd now im just rambling.

Lawdeedaw said:

Just curious as to why? I mean cute dogs have nothing to do with kids--on any level. Adults enjoy the dog crap out of them just as much. Cartoons, sure. But only some. This is kid void but meh.

Disturbing Muslim 'Refugee' Video of Europe

RedSky says...

I dunno about that, the M-E is such an immense cluster-fuck and a lack of manpower is hardly the only cause of ISIS or reason for its continued existence. Prejudice against *insert nationality here* migrants certainly isn't going anywhere any time soon.

newtboy said:

Well, you could prevent MASS migration by removing the reason most are migrating. If they could be provided some stability where they live, most of them would not leave their homes. That seems to me to be the best, most reasonable, cheapest, and only feasible 'solution' to this current refugee problem....and it solves a few other important international problems as well.

I have an idea along those lines (that won't be implemented). European countries should allow any family that wants to immigrate to do so, but require that at least one 18-30 year old immediate family member (lets say 1 for every 5 immigrants) to enlist in an international military force and go 'home' to fight Daesh...if not more.
That might solve SO many issues and fears in one stroke...which is why I'm certain it won't happen.

Doug Stanhope - Remember when I used to give a sh*t?

poolcleaner says...

Knowledge and personal choices don't work the way you want them to, Doug. People hear things and then it processes as logical or illogical -- and beyond that it is not intrinsically associated with action, let alone revolutionizing the world. (I love you, man.)

Action may occur, but that is associated with predetermined tendencies in an individual's mind. I see life as being like stuck in a mandelbrot set (except even more fucked with chaos and shit): You want to get over to one cluster, but you're quickly swept up in the pattern of c, c² + c, (c²+c)² + c, ((c² + c)² +c)² + c, (((c² + c)² + c)² + c. You want to be rational but it is not easily accomplished; perhaps even a complete impossibility. Your truth is only truly applicable to your location in the set and you will never be able to reach the other areas of the set to deliver the truth.

Similar to any fractal, visualized or unvisualized complex mathematical set, there is truth, but the truth that serves one series of nodes (people, regions, cultures, education levels), does not consistently serve or do justice for another node, even if it is the truth. Your truth may be met with hostility or confusion.

One example I can think of in real life is the inconsistency between the western civilization node and the eastern civilization node, wherein we have learned through logic and historical context, that the rights of one people should extend to all people, men and women; yet for some, religious belief is so ingrained within the human brain, it creates a node where they see their restricted freedom as a freedom itself -- I speak of the hijab. This is where truth fractals and the pattern of determinism is becomes more readily apparent. Women in hijabs find it difficult to excercise in a standard hijab, so someone, in an effort to promote healthy lives in Muslim communities, invented a sports hijab -- like the sports bra of the Middle East. Those within the node wherein Islam is true, see this as empowering; while those outside that node, see only restriction to women's rights: confusion. Regardless of how logical you may state it from outside the pattern, it will not serve as truth in the way it serves you in your own ever evolving, shifting node.

The way that I see it is, we live in a biological nightmare where freedom is only an illusion. You'll run around like a wind up toy until you're dead. Everything that is and will be is a series of things fucking with other things; exploding in rage, or taking it solemnly up the ass. But but but -- no, sorry, that's why you don't give a fuck. You found the secret of life -- the true enlightenment that harmony is disorder and that free will is a lie. Enjoy it because it is and ever will be.

Strongbad freaks out about the death of Flash

oritteropo says...

It is in the process of moving from a mainstream product used by everybody and installed by default to a niche product used by a few and not installed by default. I don't know if you'd say that counts as dead or dying, but it is certainly changing.

The reasons for this include the number of security flaws found in flash, and the increasing capabilities of html5, but it also just seems that the world is moving on and leaving it behind. You could say that Apple started the trend, but it's also possible that they just picked up on it before anybody else.

Interestingly though, just as the move away from flash became obvious, VMWare have moved from a standalone vsphere client to a flash app for managing enterprise ESX clusters.

Gutspiller said:

I read an article a few weeks back, when FireFox did their auto-off flash. Had a quote from the creator of Newgrounds. Said he couldn't count how many times he's heard flash was dying.

Everyone saying flash is "dead" is just click baiting. "Dying" is even a stretch.
