Honest Trailers - Gravity

LooiXIV says...

Don't worry I totally agree. They tried a bunch of stuff cliche symbolism, character growth, but it didn't really mesh up with the plot of the movie. She was suicidal, but finds the will to go on through a space hallucination/talking with some rando Korean (dafuq)? What I gathered from the movie is that we shouldn't try and explore space since "gravity" will pull us back. We should just stay down on earth (since that's what Sandra Bullock spends the entire movie trying to get back to). But then they had George Clooney ask Sandra Bullock to enjoy the scenery, which she never does, which is a confusing message. I guess he was trying to say all the beauty we know is on Earth. This movie tried so so hard to be a "classic" space movie that dove into humanity, blah blah blah, bs bs bs. If anything this is a very anti space exploration movie.

Compare that to the rich symbolism of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Which juxtaposes the beginnings of humanity with where it is now, and asks what is the limit of humanity? Are we confined to Earth? It was really a movie of rebirth and redefining what humanity is and what we're capable of. Also the main character was a bad ass. Not only did he out smart the homicidal computer (which killed everyone except him). He continued his mission!

2001 and Gravity couldn't be more different.

I think they were extremely kind to this movie. Outside of the visual aspect of the movie it was pretty much shit (acting,story,dialogue...). Of course I'm one of the very few that has this opinion. Maybe i'm just getting old and grumpy. GET OFF MY LAWN!

The Onion Reviews 'Gravity'

If Bullock sacrifices herself to save Clooney, that could be a good twist ('bout time too that the lady gets to be the hero).

I know how it's going to happen too (either way). They're going to be floating together in a slightly lower orbit, with rescue a few hundred meters above. One of them is going to push the other one off toward rescue, but dooming themselves to sink lower and burn up in the atmosphere.

I'm sure it will infact be Clooney that saves Bullock, but I can hope. I too was annoyed by Bullock's panicky fumbling. That's not right.

Anyways, I'd love to be proven wrong. I at least hope to see this trailer before some other movie on the big screen. All the best parts for free.

My gut is telling me this is going to be awful. We saw the best bit. The rest is going to be cloying flashbacks and weepy radio conversations with the family at ground control.

Clooney's character is going to sacrifice himself at the end so Bullock's character can get back to her kid (who probably has some disability or chronic illness).

Jobs Official Trailer #1

I'm always amazed that anyone would even think that any biopic, movie, mini-series, or made for TV movie would be accurate. It's compressed, staged and artificial because that's the format that works for the medium. American pop culture eats its own feces, like when George Clooney made a movie about Chuck Barris (that great historical figure).

Words To Sift By

His hits came fast 'n furious when there was music that make fun of itself so hard....His schtick is dated but he's ingrained in musical satire with all of the greats-

Short List that pops to mind from as many eras I can muster without google:

Rosemary Clooney
Betty Hutton
The Residents
Spinal Tap
Shel Silverstein
Mrs.Alva Miller
Garfunkel and Oats
Tom Lehrer
Jimmy Fallon
Louden Wainwright Jr.
Biff Rose (I cheated)

List goes on but my brain won't...

Weird Al's never disappoints (except with ~75% of the tracks on each of his last several albums).

VERY impressive Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, Harrison Ford

brycewi19 says...

His Harrison Ford is quite convincing as well.

I'd like to see more of each of these performances without cutting away so that I can get a better feel for what he's offering.

Also, is that supposed to be George Clooney at the end? 'Cause I can kinda see that.

Almost worse is those ts with like, a word printed right across the chest. So I'm like, reading this and I look back up and I'm getting the dirtiest look. So yah, I'm going to print shit over my crotch and then give my frowny face a good work out.

The words are intended to draw attention, but only from very attractive men. Before you go reading any T shirts you've got to ask yourself; am I George Clooney? I'm sorry I don't make the rules, it's all for him.

I am listening to moody, atmospheric soundtracks;

Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Drive
Solaris (from the Clooney version)

Then I put some First Aid Kit on to change things up.

I mostly listen via my PC and I do not have an ipod.

That is my audio story.

Does that count as a WMD?
What percentage of Democrats think Obama gives a crap when he's quaffing Dom Perignon with George Clooney?
