Indie Movie Music

my15minutes says...

hey!
i have the perfect script for this!

it opens with a shitty montage of Rochester, NY and how every tech job at Kodak, Xerox, and Bausch & Lomb has been outsourced.
then it cuts to the protagonist's shitty breakup with a quirky single mom 5 years ago, while his brother develops a shitty crack habit, despite knowing better, because he's the only guy having an even shittier time than the protagonist!

i'm just trying to work in a Good Will Hunting-type ending,
without making it feel like a deus ex machina.

oh, and it needs a director.
the one we hired is way too much of a perfectionist.

US embassy in Belgrade set ablaze because of Kosovo

moodonia says...

This prompted me to read up on Kosovo. No shortage of blood spilled over it/on it over the last 1000 years. Every side putting the boot into each other whenever they got the power.

To paraphrase something Peter Ustinov said after the fall of communism and the breakup of the ussr, about tiny regions that have never been independent entities, people think that having their own flag and anthem are going to solve all their problems. Thats often only the beginning of the problems. He said that shortly before Yugoslavia really kicked off.

Hope this isnt going to be a repeat of history, but history would indicate that it is.

Bamdrew told me that you were into Supercar. I saw a video he had posted and got interested. It seems they have very little for sale on amazon and what is for sale is around $40-50 per album. What's going on with them?

www.cdjapan.co.jp
www.yesasia.com

Amazon is the WORST place to get Japanese music (Amazon Japan is decent though). Use these sites, you'll find their albums for much better prices (and Yesasia gives you free shipping on orders over 25 bucks - a REALLY good deal; this is offset by their smaller selection and slightly higher CD prices). I use a combination of these when buying Japanese music.

As for Supercar themselves, they broke up in February 2005. The current projects are as follows:

Kouji Nakamura (vocals, guitar) is currently doing a solo project called iLL (http://www.illtheworld.jp/). It's electronic music, though in his latest single that came out last spring he did some singing (which really got me excited for what he's going to do next; I love his voice).

Miki Furukawa (bass, vocals) also went solo, under her own name (Furukawa Miki/フルカワ ミキ). It's pretty interesting, a nice blend of pop, pop-rock, and electronic music. Nakamura plays guitar for her at live shows. (http://www.furukawamiki.jp/)

Junji Ishiwatari (guitar), who actually wrote all of their amazing lyrics, is currently not in any bands. He is, however, writing lyrics from time to time for various musicians, and does sound production for the bands Chatmonchy (http://www.chatmonchy.com/), a three-piece girl rock band with a great catchy sound, and 9mm Parabellum Bullet (http://9mm.moo.jp/), a high energy indie rock band.

Koudai Tazawa (drums) is currently doing some rather boring electronic music as aM (アム). I had a link to his MySpace at one point, but they weren't really worth checking out anyway, sadly.

Ummm...monster post. Sorry about that lol. I'm just a huge fan, so I've been following them since the breakup to see what they've been doing (Been a fan since I first heard them in early 2004). Of the solo projects, Miki's is the best, but iLL's latest release has me excited for what he'll do next.

Concerning Supercar itself, I have everything on my computer (as well as owning a decent portion of their releases), so if you want recommendations/a hookup, I can upload whatever for you. They're my second favorite Japanese band. If you're looking to buying things, the older singles are getting harder and harder to find, so I'd recommend starting there if anywhere.

Talk to Kids

Usual disclaimers apply, I don't expect anyone's views to be changed by my comments, just expressing my opinion (whistling as I slip into my fire hazard suit)...

Sex is the most intimate moment that two people can share. It is so emotionally involved that the two people will always have a connection. break that connection by breaking up, and bad things can happen.

Why would you want to share such a special moment with anyone other than the person you're going to spend the rest of your life with? Why would you want to "sample" other people before you get married? You will always be comparing your life partner to those other experiences.

The abstinence message worked for me, and I couldn't be happier (one wife, one partner). I have friends that the message didn't work so well for, and they wish they could take it all back (bad breakups, single parents). Who needs the heartache? Who needs the comparison?

If the abstinence message has such a high failure rate, I have officially lost faith in mankind.
