Liberals tend to focus on issues that actually impact kids. Conservatives seem obsessed with policing morality, while ignoring actual harms being done. I don't much care if my kid reads a book that has some sex in it. I do care a LOT if their classmates are being passed through the system without actual basic skills competency, because the school lacks the budget for remedial classes and tutors.

IMO this isn’t taking science or philosophy seriously. It’s making arguments based on nonsense like living floating brains in space being a possibility, or the ridiculous idea that in infinite time everything will eventually happen….which is silly.
I don’t think even everything that COULD happen would happen even if it were given an infinite amount of time (which is not a reality either)….and certainly not things that are impossible like sentient disembodied brains in space.

Can Hollywood either write or at least read some new stories, for adults, and not keep rehashing or prequelling classics…please? There’s plenty of excellent, unique books out there to draw from, and tons of history that seems more fantastical than the silliest fiction. Read some mythology, or old school fairy tales. Ancient religions are more interesting, action packed, gory, and full of unexpected twists than the best action movie ever…and done well you could teach people while entertaining them.

Sadly, at the time most books available were religious books, because for centuries the church owned the sole means of reproduction, so it’s natural most of the books ordered for the first public library were religious or educational in nature. It was not an exclusionary policy, but a function of availability. There was little non religious fiction to be had, and less erotica…but I bet one of those “educational religious texts” was the Kama Sutra. In 1732, the Company's first book order was sent to London. James Logan, secretary to William Penn, assisted in picking the books. He was considered "the best Judge of Books in these Parts." In addition to having the largest personal library in Pennsylvania, the learned Logan knew Latin, Greek, and Hebrew.

Many of the earliest books in the Library's collection were either religious or educational tomes. But not all. I have (self diagnosed) aphasic anomia. I have tried every trick in the book, mnemonic devices, repetition, association, etc. repeatedly writing it down helps me a little, but I have had trouble remembering my wife and my brother’s names…it’s not about not remembering the name, it’s a problem with recalling them on command and getting a blank, which triggers a little panic, which makes recalling the name more difficult, triggering more panic….it’s embarrassing.

The same thing happens to me with words, it’s why I often speak differently and get accused of being intentionally erudite. I know the concept I’m trying to convey, but the words are just lost. I have more trouble recalling short easy words than longer, more advanced/difficult words, so I often come across as “high falutin”, but really I’m just trying to communicate as clearly as possible considering my issues.
