I've never seen this on any of the 5 cars I've owned, nor any of my parents' cars (all together that's 1 Honda, 1 Mazda, 3 VWs, 3 Toyotas, 2 Fords, 1 Chevy, 1 BMW, 1 Geo, and 1 Dodge).

Sadly (not trying to be racist here) there's an influx of wealthy Chinese immigrants into western Canada. They arrive in their thirties and forties, never having sat behind the wheel of a car and take expensive driving courses that guarantee success by bribing the driving examiner. Because they don't know any English, they're allowed a "translator" for the written exam, who really just takes the test for them.

Judging from the BMW, this was likely one of those.

There have been several crackdowns on this activity, but it continues and many licenses were handed out before the authorities started to get serious about it.

When I drove over the ass end corner of a late 80s BMW in the parking lot of a shopping mall while making an improper tight turn. All I could do was leave a note and go on my way.

They ended up contacting the company.

If the guy actually thought he could get away with cutting on the road without a permit or some form of paperwork and backtrack responsibility.. that guy would be pretty stupid, most people that do that work know there is a paper trail.

It was a beautiful thing. Got to ride in a 1991 E31 BMW 850 limiter removed on the Autobahn back in 95. The guy driving looks at the rearview mirror says something to the effect of "Thats Interesting" and moves right just as a Volvo station wagon blows by at well above 320 kph. Drive just grins and says "Not Stock" and keeps going. Had a lot of fun there.

Woah, the girl in the BMW 1800 @ 0:26 was definatly not ok after that. And what about that Beetle convertible @ 2:26? Somebody please whop that driver's ass.

Also, it's quite amazing to see how stable the 914 was, compared to the 911s and that Capri(?) @ 3:14.

In NZ, there is a mentality among small business owners referred to as "Boat, bach and BMW". Essentially it states that once kiwi business people make enough money to have a boat, a bach (kiwi slang) and a BMW, they lose interest in expanding their business any further.

The government, lobby groups, economic "think tanks" and so on are always complaining about this.

My response has always been "why?". If I had enough money to live comfortably and buy the little luxuries I want, why on earth would I keep working myself to the bone?

I know some people work because they love what they do and that's cool, but working just so you can have another million or billion or whatever? What's the point?
