MASSIVE oil tank explosion filmed from 2km away

MaxWilder says...

When the camera pulls back from the window, the focus and camera position changes. You can't see the debris any more because it is much smaller and way out of focus.

Instead of saying "Fake!" try saying "Why can't I see the flying debris after the blast wave hits the camera?" Then somebody can explain, and you don't look like a youtube troll.

Quickest way to defuse a car bomb in Iraq

chilaxe says...

There was some news in the last couple of months about the sometimes mysterious disorders affecting some soldiers' nervous systems. I don't remember the details, but a search yielded this:

More commonly, injury occurs . . . when a wave of high pressure — a blast-wave — expands outward from the site of an explosion to damage brain and other soft tissue of its victims. Blast-wave injuries may be especially severe for personnel in confined spaces such as the interior of armored vehicles.

Secret Government Project For Thermonuclear Spacecraft

Thylan says...

I saw a doc on the project of "bombs" being released to explode in sequence beneath a blast shield/saucer, so as to use the blast wave as upwards thrust. theoretically, enough bombs of enough blast, can push really big stuff to orbit. From what i remember of the archival footage, they had this working but I cant remember the specifics. If my memory jogs, i might try to hunt it down.

Terminator 2 - Sarah's Horrifying Dream of the Future

gluonium says...

not really. the maximum distance from the hypocenter which would produce instant clothes/skin/etc burning effects from the flash would necessitate a proximity that would mean the blast wave would arrive a mere second or two at most afterward. also, you would not be turned into dust statues as depicted and I highly doubt your skeleton would remain clutching the fence as your flesh is ripped off. that's just silly.

The House in the Middle

old_spider says...

The 'house on the right' ends up being switched with the 'house on the left'. Notice the roofs on the two houses during the blast wave: the house on the left has half its roof intact, while the house on the right loses its entire roof. Notice a few seconds later when they show you the 'house on the right' ablaze and with half its roof.

EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) On A Taurus

NordlichReiter says...

They didnt need to prove that the radio still worked because the major thing about EMP is that it knocks out radio, and that has been proven already. Yes his radio would probably turned on but like my radio it would have been white noise. EMP radio black out lasts for about as long as it takes for the communications people to replace their radios. EMP is a proven working weapon system, because it happens with the splitting of atoms, so naturally a Nuclear Device will cause black out. The military has to prepare for this, although they cant just detonate a Nuke to prepare for EMP attack.

http://www.fas.org/nuke/intro/nuke/emp.htm This pretty much tells the truth, its not about stopping a car, its more about stopping communications, and radar tracking systems. What we need to be worried about is that the only weapons with enough power to cause a comm black out, or really do any damage to electrical systems is a Nuke, provided the electronics survives the Blast Wave, and the Operators survive the radiation. So, yea this weapon they show is not really practical, because look how big it is? It only effects 50 miles, when a nuke causes blast damage, EMP, and radiation.
