NYPD is Morphing into the CIA

legacy0100 says...

I'm upvoting the video and the program for shining light into these matters, but I disagree with his argument in this particular situation.

As a person living in NYC, I've had my share of bomb threat experiences. The closet one I've had was back in 2008 or 2009 when a man from Jackson Heights was planning to bomb the 42nd street Times Square station via the 7 train line. I too was living in Jackson Heights at the time, and know that there is a sizable Afghani and Pakistani community there.

I used to pick up lunch and did my groceries from Indian restaurants and supermarkets. And when I've heard of the news of this terrorist attack attempt, I personally felt the dangers and the seriousness of the problem. The alleged attacker was from the very community I was living in, where I assumed I knew and was comfortable in, in the same neighborhood and rode the same train I rode in.

But the most important point to me was that this man was willing to sacrifice people's lives, not just any people but his own community, to get the job done. he wasn't planning to bomb the wall street, the city hall or U.N. Building. This man was going to plant the bomb on the 7 train line, the exact same line where majority of riders are from Jackson Heights.

The most shocking point of the story is that he got the terrorist attack idea from his local imam from a Mosque in Jackson Heights. Their own fucking neighborhood. And yet, the community had no idea about their doings.

Now this got me thinking. if you are a muslim, you must take care of your community and throw out the bad seeds. When someone is using your name or what you stand for something you do not identify yourself with, PUT A STOP TO IT. Blissful ignorance does not help anyone. These crazed people from your own neighborhood was about to kill you, and yet nobody had any idea this was happening in the community.

Just claiming that you are different from them, and blaming others for not being able to tell the difference is an excuse to your laziness. You haven't done anything to pull yourself apart, and identify those who are different from what you stand for. If the muslim community was more active in sifting out the bad seeds from their own community, then there would be no need for government to step in and invade your privacy. It is ultimately your laziness that gets your rights violated.

You live in this country, you live in the same neighborhood, your life is threatened by the psychos who really don't care how many innocent people they kill, including people of their own community, as long as they do whatever they feel like doing. This is YOUR problem (more like your life) as it is for every other ethnic groups in your community. Stop being selfish, stop being lazy. Stop making excuses. If you want your rights back, then TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR COMMUNITY FIRST.

...aside from this if there was a legitimate reason to fight a war and I was in it I would not feel that I need anyone to recognize my efforts, the reward would be the outcome of peace that was achieved the best payback would be for people to live as free and normal life as possible...

There's a problem in there Westy. Most of those riders weren't merely "ignored" they were spit on, derided, insulted, and disrespected all because of a few bad seeds in Vietnam. Much like the way a large portion of the Sift regard police.
And no, I honestly don't believe you would think that the "job is the reward" if you had gone through it yourself.

I didn't know people were spiting on them and what have you and obvously thats stupid for them to do that.

my comment was not about that it was about what was directly visible in the video and peoples blind patratisum and non pragmatic apreach.

well if i was drafted to fight in Vietnam i would be resentful of the government and would have been one of the Manny people to desert to another country, if we wer at war for lagitamte reasons and i was drafted i cetranly would not want to attend a paraid like this and i would not want or exspect people to ohnor or respect me anny more than they should ohnor and respect everyone.

As i said i would want the goverment to treat vterns properly with the right suport and have money put into education and teaching of history to reduce the likelihood of wars happening in the future that would be far more rewarding and befiting of friends i would have lost than some , token paraid.

My view of current troops and vetrens is that im against what they do as a job but i recognize allot of them are forced into the job and i would support them ( not in the killing) but in being nice to them as people and recognizing that they have sufferd allot of emotional truma.

Well, I made it through the video because I'm out of bullets. I have to agree that he is crazy talented but someone needs to give him a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds record or something, something with humongous gargantuan hairy balls.

RSA: The Hidden History of the Financial Crisis

Trancecoach says...

Anyone who thought, at the time, that Enron was the only corrupt organization in a field of legitimate companies wasn't paying attention.

(Anyone who thinks that the most recent financial crisis has "cleaned out" the bad seeds is similarly deluded. Without meaningful prosecution of wrongful behavior, there will be no change or reform going forward. Without public education of what went wrong, who's responsible, and how to prevent it from happening again, the problems will persist for a long long time to come.)

Always One Bad Seed in the bunch, but ours is positively Rotten! And our Rotten Seed has been around long enough and we've put enough pressure on on him, that the natural outcome is a Diamond!!

Congratulations on enduring the test of time and pressure to become a Diamond!

White Paranoia on Black Issues

Sagemind says...

I don't think he is intentionally being racist.

I believe what he is referring to is the political atmosphere surrounding the issue. That being black shouldn't give you a "pass".

As members of a community, we stand up to make the area our families live, work and play in as safe and respectable as possible. We don't litter on the ground, we don't swear when children are around, we don't aim to intimidate others and so on.

If we see a white person doing something offensive, being a public nuisance, acting in a way that is menacing to us or our children, we say something.

Now, if those same offenders are racially different, in this case black, it is no longer becoming socially correct to point them out. If we do, the race card is played! What this man is saying, is that black people need to hold themselves to the same standards as any other citizen on the street. Now, this is not aimed at people who are great people, it's aimed at people who use race as an excuse to their actions.

An an example:
My wife worked at a Union job in a hospital. There was a woman there, of East Indian decent. She didn't do her work, she called in sick constantly, sometimes never showed up to work, she was rude to all other workers and never finished any task that was given to her. When she was reprimanded and put on warning, she put a grievance with the union that it was race motivated and when it got so bad that she thought she would loose her job, she had the union re-assign her to a different department. The problem was, she had already transfered from seven other departments with the same complaints against her and in every case she claimed racism.

Because she claimed racism, even the Union was afraid to admit that she was a bad seed in the workplace and needed to be let go. No one wants to be labeled a racist and we go to great lengths to protect ourselves from that label. Even when it means that we let people get away with things they shouldn't just because they claim racism.

The Ironic part here is now I have to say "I am not a racist" just to protect myself. I love people of all colours and religious backgrounds because I find them amazingly interesting. I have no inherited cultural background myself so I am very envious of people that have these backgrounds and customs.
(EDIT: at he same time, I never put one race above or below another. I couldn't care less about the skin colour, when I talk about cultural backgrounds, I am also referring to Scottish, Irish, Ukrainian, French etc.)

What I shouldn't have to do is fear that if someone is doing something wrong, and I am in the position to do something about it, that I get called a racist for my actions. People need to hold themselves accountable and not use the "Race" card as an excuse for their actions!

Man attacks police car by running at it with a knife

NordlichReiter says...

Every time an officer is even accused of brutality, or arrest on false charges, their righteousness is blown away.

One bad officer can destroy the reputation of the of 10 good officers.

The problem with officers is that some of them have a violence fetish, and the uniform, gun and bylaws protect them.

It should be every righteous officers duty to oust every bad seed, so as to build up a reputation for his or her precinct that will make the citizenry feel safe.

Here it is: Don't break the law. That goes for the officers, you are protected only as long as the citizenry support you.

I do not support those that break the law, even officers of the law. I do however expect those officers to show restraint, and knowledge of a person's rights (provided they are not in the felony zone). The uniform and the gun do not give the officer the right to do what ever they want.

If you want a free for all, better go to a country that doesn't have a constitution.

Vaccine-Gate: Corporate profit driven legislation. Require vaccinations at $165 a pop. More profits for the friend/company supplying it.

Passport-Gate: McCarthyist snooping in citizen's files, caught, and deflected to 'one bad seed'. Not unlike Abu Ghraib... the scapegoats fall while the government walks away untouched.

Iraq-Gate: Proof the US doesn't want the war to end. They don't want peace. As I always say.. the US' tactic is to keep the middle east unstable and at war. A divided and unstable middle east is FAR less of a threat than a united middle east. Give them some space, and they WILL unite against the US. Especially after all the $hit the Bush administration has pulled over there.

"Rape in the Military" Congress Charges Coverups (6m)

quantumushroom says...

It is not unreasonable to assume one-half of Congress has only contempt for the US military and will do anything to make it look awful, if only to please their warped constituents.

Military personnel are more disciplined than the civilian population. They are taught history and tradition (or at least taught these things matter) and their morals and values tend to be higher than those of civilians if only because the rigors of the job test their character daily.

There are bad seeds in every organization; hearings like these typically end up being politically-motivated blanket condemnations of the Service. Rep. Harman's calling rape in the military an "epidemic" proves this point.
