"It's Raining Again" by Supertramp

Game of Thrones Season 5 Trailer

Kevin Spacey Talks About the Future of Television

JustSaying says...

Piracy is certainly a service problem.
I'd love to give HBO my money but if they make me wait one freaking year to do that, they'll loose. I'm still going to buy their BluRays but certainly not at full price. I can wait, I've already seen their shows.
I would actually pay for a subscription to HBO, if it was available here. It isn't.

That's why Game of Thrones tops the piracy charts. Because they make it harder to give them your money. I bought Hannibal on iTunes. Saw each episode 1 day after air date, what an awesome show.

Yeah, me too - don't you recall that quote? "Generosity is a subtle form of power". It was his most memorable line for mine. Awesome show, I'm sure we agree.

So glad to hear this. Cheers ole cum! I just recently missed a show where they preformed along with 3 other but kinda similar bands for $7 in Norfolk VA. The promoter seen that on the book of faces that said that I probably could not make it. He offered to foot the bill for the person who would travel with me to see them. I still had no takers. Mind you that when I seen them a few years ago, The same promoter was at this dive bar in Virginia Beach VA. When we walked into the place he asked us who we were there to see and my friend said "My friend wants me to see Ceremony." The dude said that they were about to hit the stage(late but perfect timing.) He then ask us where we were for and my friend said "Baltimore MD." It was a 5 hour trip man(I really love this band). The dude said "Whoa! You deserve a beer!" and bought us a pitcher of suds. This is a really cool click of musicians in the Mid Atlantic states. You need to clone yourself so I can take you to super cheap but fucking awesome shows.

Penn Jillette: Camera Tricks Are Not Magic

SevenFingers says...

I saw him and Teller couple years ago in Vegas, awesome awesome show. Except for a few tricks they pretty much explained how they did everything. Then they explained how they hate the TSA very very much, and sold wallet sized metal plates of the Bill of Rights, and a plastic knife/comb combo just to fuck with the system.

The Greatest Scene In Season One Breaking Bad

The Weakerthans "Tournament of Hearts"

taranimator says...

In Toronto, Canada - perhaps it was a little over a year..
Actually, I almost missed it! The show started with a warm-up band. We assumed it was the warm-up band from the ticket and the next band (the real warm-up) was the Weakerthans. The second warm-up band was terrible. They said nothing, the set was short and the sound was almost incomprehensible. Everyone seemed to split directly after the last number. So, standing in an empty hall with the lights on watching people hauling gear away, we thought, 'oh, well.. win some, you lose some' and we left the venue. Flagging a cab we had second thoughts... That REALLy didn't sound like the Weakerthans from their albums .. what if...

So we went back and lo and behold -- they were in the process of resetting the stage for the real Weakerthans! After a very long break they came on and played an awesome show with great sound -- we nearly missed it! One of the best shows I've seen.

While I may not align my personal self-delusion with Ryjkyj, the thing I find interesting about piracy is that we're all hypocrites
Spoco, to paraphrase you, you’ve said that it’s the Big Corporates ’ fault that you torrent specific products because they insist on controls and limitations, or are too slow. So what? What entitles you to immediate and unfiltered access to whatever you want, whenever you want it? They are artists producing that material, putting their heart and soul into it. Why do you feel entitled to it in a format of your preference?
While I sympathise, I don’t find it a watertight argument. Even those who refuse to torrent on moral grounds may be inhibiting the expansion of art. There’s pretty convincing data around showing that file sharing has led to more musicians producing and being paid for their art than would have occurred otherwise. By file sharing, you are participating in this expansion. By refusing to, you are stunting its growth.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I know what I'm doing is wrong, and I know that I should be providing those who make the entertainment money. And as I said, I do with movies... TV not so much, because it's that thing that I don't have much interest in re-watching shows. (Except Deadwood, we bought all of that on DVD, because you can watch that over and over and get things you missed in the beautiful cussing the first time ) So, there, yes I have a problem. A show like Fringe. I think that's an awesome show, looks like it doesn't have much life left in it, could do with the support, but what can I do realistically? I can't add to its ratings at all as I'm not a family with one of the rating boxes (one of my friends was for a while, was fun to intentionally watch 'good' tv to try to boost ratings ), if I bought the show on DVD it'd really be a symbolic gesture on my part where I'd end up with a bunch of DVDs I'll never watch.

Now, if they made the remaining episodes of it available worldwide for a small subscription fee (and hey, open up the back catalogue too so people can catch up), then I'd stop torrenting it and use the legal downloads (assuming they aren't DRM'd all up the butt).

So yes, I know that torrenting isn't 'right', but I try to do the right thing by the work I like. But I have issues with me doing it, and would like to be provided another avenue to do it legally where I can support the creators I like (without having to pay for crap I don't like). @Ryjkyj seems to believe he's actually in the right, and that's what gets my goat. People who seem to think you're only producing something if you can hold it or touch it. That's such utter rubbish.

Foo Fighters - Hot Buns (Uncensored Version)

Sarzy says...

A) What was that??

B) I saw them perform a couple of weeks back. Awesome show. Near the beginning Dave Grohl said something like "I hope you're comfortable, because we're going to play every song we know!" and they practically did. I think they played for something like two and a half hours. Good times.

What am I Reading? (Scifi Talk Post)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

I'm on book three of the Song of Ice and Fire series. It's good stuff, even if you aren't a big fantasy fan.

I cleaned out a Borders that was going out of business, so Carthy McCormic (Blood Meridian and others), Dan Ariely (whatever his newest book is) and Chris Hedges (Death of the Liberal Class) are in the queue.

Other notealble read this year were Naomi Klein's brilliant 'Shock Doctrine' and Dan Ariely's fun 'Predictably Irrational'. 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' was a quick but cool vintage read too.

On the TV front, I also finally got around to watching Eastbound and Down, Tim and Eric's Awesome Show (behind the times, yes, I know) and the Walking Dead. All cool shows.

Got to sleep now, driving home from MT tomorrow morning with isserkitter.
