Toronto police charge G20 crowd singing "O Canada"

Tyrsis says...

Here is another angle of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkwazCJG0vc

On another note, as a citizen of Toronto, I tried to really give the police the benefit of the doubt on this. Even though I disagreed with the amount spent on the G20 security, and the general turmoil that occurred to the businesses in the G20 fenced area. I know in most cases police are there for the good of the people (though I'm sure some will disagree).

While I can understand the crack down they did on the second day (Sunday June 27th), due to what happened on Saturday, unfortunately that came at the expense of our civil liberties. They completely squashed on many liberties that we have in exchange for security. On a very fundamental level, that is just WRONG.

Here is a good overview of what I mean. Here is a video of someone getting arrested for "Public Works Protection Act" a few days before the G20: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TD3lF0ZSgb8

The chief of police declared that "If you go 5 meters away from the fence, you are required to submit to police questioning under this act". As you can see in the above video, police are enacting this order. While this is a vague law, it actually holds true in courts, and many thought they made an exception for the G20. It turns out, this wasn't the case.

After the G20, and when pushed about this, the chief actually says this rule was never actually in place. Yet it is obvious in the video above, that officers were ordered to follow this rule. Here is an article about it: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/toronto/police-admit-no-five-metre-rule-existed-on-security-fence-law/article1622864/

This of course goes way above and beyond what happened on Sunday at Queen and Spadina, where hundreds were detained for no reason at all, and I'd even say illegally.

Here is a copy of the Charter of rights in Canada: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/charter/1.html

Basically legal rights from 7) right down to even 12) were stomped all over this weekend. While there were some people that were in the wrong, the methods the police used were also wrong. Detaining and arresting 1000 in order to capture a 100 is not right.

Government Goons Threaten Jurors' Rights Activists

HEY EVERYONE!!
TWO GUYS WERE DOUCHEBAGS>>> ALL GOVERNMENT MUST BE DESTROYED!!

Is volumptuous just a troll now? Being that it was more than a dozen police, and no one is advocating the destruction of government but him? Should he be on a watch list?

Actually, wrong again. Good grief! Two of the men in the vid go above and beyond. One of those douches makes a threat. All are rent-a-cops. The real cops just question harmlessly and realize they are beaten. If that makes them douches....good god we have high standards.

KICK-ASS KICKS ASS. (Blog Entry by lucky760)

lucky760 says...

Absolutely, truly, and sincerely disagree with rasch. The film was pulled off extremely well, telling a few incredible, unbelievable stories in a very interesting, believable way. Kick-Ass has a lot more depth than I was expecting and a very well-rounded story. If that qualifies it as schizophrenic, then I'll be a monkey's uncle. This film was not only not overrated but went far above and beyond what I had hoped it to be.

Bravo, says I. Bravo.

Wikileaks - U.S. Apache killing civilians in Baghdad

KnivesOut says...

The RPG they think they saw was the photog pointing his camera around the corner, but there was an RPG being carried around by another person. I guess just the presence of weapons is all the military needs to justify an attack. I'm sure this shit is going on right now, as we speak, day-in and day-out.

That said, the 2nd attack on the black van is inexplicable. There were no weapons visible. The greater crime (above and beyond the blood-thirsty attack on human beings) is the activity later to cover up the attack.

Couple Arrested for Not Paying Tip

Sagemind says...

It shouldn't matter if the "Mandatory" was posted or not. A tip is a reward for good service/going above and beyond. I absolutely wouldn't pay it either if I received bad service - period!

There is no argument that would convince me otherwise - I'm close minded on this stance!

What other business or service industry demands a mandatory tip? Imagine...

1). Valet - Yes sir we parked your car, but you can go find it yourself, we're kind of busy right now - By the way, I demand a tip before you go looking for your car.

2). WalMart - I have no idea if we carry that. No, I don't have time to find out for you, but if you find it, we're adding an 18% gratuity to your bill on the way out.

3). Paperboy - I don't care if your paper arrives 3 days late on every issue, I'm a busy guy. By the way, you owe me a tip!

4). McDonnalds - I added napkins and a straw to your order, that will be an extra 18% or I take the food back.

5). Jewelery Store (yes, retail does pay minimum wage) - That will be $300 for the ring and we're adding on an extra 18% because we've decided we're such nice guys.

I could go on...

Zombie Last Supper (Blog Entry by rottenseed)

Holy Spam Batman!

>> ^oklanap:
So, this post is very nice! This make me think what if there's really the zombie's last supper, what would happen to the painting of the real last supper!??.. Anyone who think of this idea may be aware of the present economy on how zombies in politics ruin the government.Unemployment rates for older workers have increased in this recession more than in past recessions, and the unemployment rate for adults over age 65 is at an all-time high.Microsoft is always bound and determined to succeed and overachieve in anything that they do – including Microsoft layoffs! Always people to go above and beyond the call of duty, the dearth of ivory back scratchers at corporate headquarters led the charge in [zombie spam link deleted] Microsoft layoffs, and expanded the first layoff drive in company history from 5,000 to 5,800!

My point is even if the fine is $1000 I am going to speed sometime. If you say you don't speed.... I am calling bullshit. (p.s. im not picking on you.. i like you)
The speed limit around here is mostly 60 MPH. Do you know how many people actually drive 60 all the time? I bet if there are any... it's a relatively small percentage. If I want to drive 70 or 75 so be it. I leave plenty of space between me and the car in front of me. If someone tailgates me I move. I am all about being safe, but mandatory arbitrary speed limits on highways are ridiculous to me. I am totally fine speed limits in residential neighborhoods and school zones. I obey those speeds as I suspect most do.

I don't like stupid rules to be placed on me because other people can't handle their shit. I have an issue with a cop chasing me down the highway at 70 MPH and giving me a $250-300 ticket for speeding. Fuuuuuuck that. Cops have many uses in society and I bet you, I BET, that if they didn't have to babysit the roads then they would be able to perform an ACTUAL service to the community. Those cops didn't sign up to sit on the fucking highway and pull over people to ticket, did they? No most likely they signed up to patrol and protect the citizens... they have no place monitoring my speed.

Too ranty?

This is something that irritates me constantly. Mostly because I am a speeder. Paying a fine of $200 is above and beyond ridiculous. If you get caught speeding, yes, there should be some sort of fine, but hundreds of dollars is excessive and it does not deter me from speeding. What it does do is make the people on the highway slow down to 10 MPH when a cop is on the fucking road.

Fine me, but make it reasonable. Especially in the current economic status of the country.

The point of a fine is to make you say "oh shit, that's a significant % of my paycheck." If it were "reasonable", then you'd be like "Who cares, it's only $(x dollars). I'm late so I really need to speed, and if a get a fine, no big deal."
There are several ways that reducing highway speeds benefit our society. Public safety aside, the efficiency of your car is greatly reduced at higher speeds. A simple way to "reduce our dependence on foreign oil" would be for everyone to just slow the fuck down a little bit.
