How to Spot a Fake Smile!
IIRC the brain working in parts is done to simplify learning of the brains functions for us, it has no bearing on how the mind actually works. This is seen in people who suffer brain damage but retain functionality as tasks get rewired to other parts, also can be experienced under LSD with the phenomenon of synesthesia.

Dissociative Fugue
This is an artificial reproduction of the experience of synesthesia, not dissociative fugue. Dissociative fugue is when one forgets their relationships and who they are, usually as the mind's only way to escape an unbearable life (troubled marriage, etc.). The condition is cured when the person is faced with someone from his past life and his brain is forced to recall.
ABC news report on synesthesia
I just love how they throw crazy stuff around in the begining that's just not how synesthesia work (by the way 10% of the population are synesthestis...synesthesiacs...whatever)
Hexstatic - Vector (Hypnotic)
What I meant was - I am not surprised to hear that you liked Rez since it deals with the idea of "synesthesia," the association of different senses and stimuli with each other, which is a sensation experienced naturally by some people, and reported by many users of LSD and other hallucinogens. And of course because of the face that in Rez, one's character soars over psychedelic, abstract, futuristic vistas to the hypnotic beats of electronic music.
