The worst scalding will be from when his friends find out he bought a shitty Mercedes SUV instead of a Tesla
Cohen Sentenced; Trump's Shutdown Threat: A Closer Look
@Ginrummy33
I'd also point to the Hot Coffee case as THE clearest example of tort reform propaganda that I'm aware of.
McDonald's had hundreds of burn complaints and it was their policy to keep the coffee at scalding temps to stop old people from drinking it too fast (they have to wait for it to cool) when they meet for their morning Blue Haired Neighborhood Committee meetings.
THEN this woman got burned. She only sued for the cost of her medical expenses, the jury awarded the extras for pain and suffering (she couldn't walk without a limp after when she was a spry tennis-playing old lady prior).

When dad childproofs the BBQ
I'm in complete agreement, although there are some edge-case limits. I lost an uncle (well before I was born) to one of them.
Kansas winters are cold and dry. My grandmother liked to deal with both problems by putting a pot to boil on the stove. In the 50's, my father's 3-4 year old brother managed to get enough of a grip and yank on the handle of the pot to pull it over the edge and didn't survive the burns from the scalding water.
Burned fingertips? Lesson learned, will heal. Boiling water or oil? Better keep it out of reach.
BBQs and ovens and stove tops and other hot objects are all self-solving problems for kids who like to touch things. Warn them, tell them the consequences, and then they either don't touch it (Win) or the touch it and get burnt and never touch it again (Win).
Burned by McDonald's Hot Coffee
This is about water temperature and not about caffeine - for all we know the scalding hot cup of Joe was decaf..
Are you telling us Coffee or Caffeine is not a drug?
Brilliant Coffee House Prank
Ah yes, no better place and time to shock people than when they're holding cups of scalding hot liquid!
I wonder if he had any way to check. Perhaps he could see out, or could get a signal from the camera man when it's safe. If he did that just as someone was taking a sip of coffee then lawsuit.
Can it be a police state if they are wearing shorts?
Yes McDonalds should be allowed to sell liquids at 200 degrees F, even 400 degrees F even. Stupid consumers need to assume anything being served to them is absolutely scalding hot and will permanently disfigure their body if, for example, the dipshit employee doesnt put the lid on right.
This woman wins WORST PARENT award
I knew a woman some years ago who ran away with her kid to a Mormon in Florida, it soon came out that her daughter was being forced to take scalding hot baths when she got in trouble. Similar punishment, though perhaps worse. Makes me wonder if this kind of thing isn't pretty typical in Mormonism. And yes, that guy is in prison now.
In all seriousness it sounds to me like this punishment was that A: Some kid stole his pencil and he was arguing to get it back and B: He was playing when he wasn't supposed to. Considering the kid looks like he's probably 7 or 8 this seems to be some pretty god damn hardcore punishments for typical every day child behavior.
My question is why would she be so stupid to post this on the interwebs?
Edit: On the subject of Mormonism. I used to live were the religion was founded, Palmira NY. So I knew a few mormon families as a young kid and most were pretty normal. But like all religions there are many sects of Mormonism and some are extremely hardcore. This mother probably belongs to one of those sects.

I couldn't really follow it. I guess I'm kind of simple but the poem with the Mazzy (and all the words and imagery and memories that are inherent to that song for me) and the visuals prevented me from being able to focus on your words. I thought maybe I'd go back and try it again with it muted.

Kids, don't do drugs and then go to the store!
Man, he's lucky there at the end where he grabs the plastic bucket with the mini-moos... just a bit to the right and he would have grabbed a pot of scalding coffee... that would have been brutal.
Baby Chicks dumped alive into a grinder (and other horrors)
In the article it says they're only really miffed by the scalded chicks that got burned in the washer, and that the grinder is accepted method. They would have been better to allow people to document their methods and stand by them in public. This makes them look sneaky as if they're trying to hide something. Which of course they are.

The Cracks- The chicks falling off the equipment are not systemic cruelty but poor handling. It could even be argued that Vegan Camera Person is being more cruel by just videotaping its suffering rather than killing it. I wonder if they turned off the camera and walked away, tutt-tutting while it writhed on the floor.
ABSOLUTE lovely comment. in fact thats exactly what the camera man did, because vegans are fucking pussy's I can say that because I was one as I explained in the thread. that fucking wiener took the camera seen the scalded chick, said OH MUH GAWD, did a little tear then went on to look for other photogenic situations. A civil human would of smashed its head, would of thwacked it against the metal conveyor belt, whatever. the thing was just alive and suffering and any normally operating and thinking human would of done the humane thing. call me a hypocrite but vegans with there pointless save the world everything has feelings shit just isnt right. maby in 500 years. thats if humans last that long.
well, good talkin to myself. i'll have a drink for ya.
Huge Phosphorous Explosion
>> ^FlowersInHisHair:
As opposed to all the humane grenades we normally use?
The frag grenades we normally use are primarily designed to incapacitate, though they are certainly lethal within a considerable radius. (Approximately 5m lethal, 15m wounding, according to FAS.org) Yes, being killed by a frag grenade is a terrible thing, but being wounded by a white phosphorous grenade is a much worse fate.
Being wounded by a frag grenade is like being shot with a (jagged) projectile. Being wounded by a white phosphorous grenade is like being shot and then scalded at 5000 deg F, and if one is unfortunate enough to survive the burns, an exceedingly unpleasant death from phosphorous poisoning.
The goal of combat is not strictly to kill your opponent. The objective is to reduce or eliminate your opponent's will or ability to fight.
Incapacitation is equally effective as killing at achieving this goal on an individual level. Persuasion even more so. Unfortunately, we've come to the (questionably-valid) conclusion that killing is more efficient and economical.
