Some guy engineers his own 9/11 experiments

rychan says...

I admire this guy's willingness to tinker, but he comes across as very anti-science. Good scientists (like the people who wrote the official reports) are willing to admit when they don't know something. Yet this guy latches on to that as a failure or a cover up on their part.

He didn't disprove the official story. The official story is that burning jet fuel weakened the steel. How does this video disprove that? He cherry picked a few eye witness reports, he points to some uncertainties in the official report, and he highlights a few material samples of unknown origin and somehow that invalidates the official report?

Me: Rain falls from the sky.
Him: But eyewitnesses have white hot plasma forking through the sky. Also, I have photos of ice falling from the sky. Your shoddy cover up is now disproved.

You realize his central experiments are basically worthless? We know thermite cuts steel. That's what people use it for all the freaking time:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermite#Civilian_uses
"Thermite can be used for quickly cutting or welding steel such as rail tracks..."

He's right that the National Geographic experiments were shoddy. But again, he doesn't understand science if he somehow thinks that invalidates the official story and at the same time validates his crackpot theory.

Thank-You Pantalones. Well said.
This video does not corroborate conspiracy theory, nor was that the intention. It simply disproves the official story to pressure the public and powers that be to find the real answers.

Battle: Los Angeles - Full, Theatrical Trailer HD

HugeJerk says...

That's one of the things I really like about this trailer. The aliens are using missiles and what appear to be regular projectiles. Even their ships seem to shift around as if using thrust rather than some magical anti-gravity.>> ^Payback:

I would really like to see a movie where aliens invade that don't have awesome, hugely advanced technology, and every facet of their war was in line with real weapons and real consequences.
<snip>
When they land, they have guns. Not lasers, or plasma rifles, or antigrav gunships, or weird fucked-up magic death rays that suck you up into the sky through your eyeballs (Skyline was teh suck).

Say, they get here not by FTL travel, but generation ships or cryonics, or a physiology that allows them to hibernate for years, like some earth organisms do. When they land, they have guns. Not lasers, or plasma rifles, or antigrav gunships, or weird fucked-up magic death rays that suck you up into the sky through your eyeballs (Skyline was teh suck). It could be an allegory of Iraq or Afghanistan. First would be an alien Shock and Awe, as they use EMP to knock out infrastructure and technology and drop asteroids on cities and installations. Superior firepower only due to them having the "high ground", and a ground occupation more like WW2 or WW1 as all our fancy shit was toast and we EMP'd the crap out of their tech too...

Shit... I should copyright this post.

Railgun Test Fire

I'll upvote for the simple fact that no-one added techno music to this!

I imagine the smoke is as said before: sound barrier, casing, plasma flow dynamics ("hot air"), etc... Plus whatever gets pwned at impact via kinetics.

And, just like the movie (just different words):
"There Will Be A Fiery Boom"

It's plasma energy resulting in what tadd just said. It's a very intense buildup of electromagnetic energy onto the surface area of the bottom of the projectile. In the last clip on this video, the projectile lost structural integrity from the g-forces.
>> ^mtadd:
>> ^VoodooV:
ok...so I'm dumb, if it's electromagnetically propelled, what's with the explosion?

My guess would be its a result of the shockwave from the ballistic reaching supersonic velocity.

actually you are wrong. what you see is projectile's casing falling off. see http://media.defenseindustrydaily.com/images/ORD_EM_Rail_Gun_7MJ_Shot_lg.jpg and http://www.dstl.gov.uk/news_events/images/railgun.jpg

Thor - First trailer

EMPIRE says...

so far so good. I liked the trailer

Certainly not the best thing ever, but more than enough to make me interested. But lately I've been going less and less to the movies. I mean... Bluray + 50 inch plasma HD? Who needs to put up with annoying people in the theaters? Too bad the dvd and bluray editions take a few months to come out after the movie.
I did watch Iron Man 2 at home with Bluray, and I don't look back.

Rock Band Loser Murders TV

Shepppard says...

Hard trauma to an LCD/plasma t.v. wouldn't just turn it black, it would retain picture and have colour "Bleeds" from the damaged area, unless it was somehow unplugged by that swing.. which I kinda doubt.

But to me, I think the biggest giveaway was the drummer. His hits weren't even on rhythm, so they would've failed the song out just from him long ago.

What new channel would you like to see? (User Poll by Throbbin)

kronosposeidon says...

@Throbbin: These are all rocket-testing videos:

http://videosift.com/video/Plasma-Rocket-Testing
http://videosift.com/video/Ares-Rocket-Test-Fire-At-Corrine-Utah-9-10-09
http://videosift.com/video/Nasa-methane-gas-engine-test
http://videosift.com/search?q=rocket+test

That's mega-combustion in all cases. Would they fit, yes or no? And like I said, cars have internal combustion engines. There are mini-explosions genuinely taking place inside of each cylinder in them. Now you might think it wouldn't come up, but I guarantee you, sooner or later it would. Like in the case of this video:

http://videosift.com/video/Actual-footage-from-inside-a-4-stroke-engine-Wow-cool

So if that were added, then one might legitimately claim that anything involving engines would be kosher for the Combustion channel. So it's not as common-sense as you might think.

Look, people sometimes debate shit about what belongs in all of these channels:

Femme
Lies
Terrible
Viral
Sexuality
Eia

And others. So is it so terrible to ask for clarification, or to even suggest that maybe a combustion channel might be too broad?

And the last part of my comment is tongue-in-cheek, esse. It was meant to show that I'm not being overly serious about anything. I trust that most sifters would understand that - you may not.

It's probably quite loud.

If it was ever make it into a real product, they could put it in a semi-vacuum bubble, just like plasma globes. It would make it pretty quiet and also require less energy from the motors. I want that product, now...
