Firefly proves "darn" is more badass than "This is Sparta!"
You can't compare Picard and Mal. Picard had a prestigious position in a federation that had a fairly rigid moral code. Picard wasn't barely getting by. He represented the best of humanity during the best of times. Mal, on the other hand, was living under a totalitarian regime and was barely keeping food on the table. His life was a struggle. It would make more sense to compare him to Han Solo, Robin Hood, or other "thieves with hearts of gold".

Why must the heroes of today be such villains? Whatever happened to the old kind of heroes, who were actually promoting ideals and not cold-blooded murder?
Neither this nor the Sparta scene referenced sparked the kind of admiration in me that it apparently did in the majority. It just felt disgustingly nonchalant of human life.
Old kind of heros?
Like Hercules? Achillies?
I think society would be contemptibly evil if all we watched was Christmas specials.
Captain Picard is a nearly impeccable hero.
Introvert or Extrovert - Often Misunderstood - What are you?
Personally, I upvoted because "disappointment" was Picard's facepalm when he found out he was the "closest thing I have to a friend" to Q.
Disposable People
Guess we're all supposed to feel bad about slavery, and if the cues weren't subtle enough, it has to be WHOOPIE! explaining it to Picard instead of, say, Riker.
Slavery was a worldwide enterprise for thousands of years. With the possible exception of Eskimos, there is not a race on the planet that hasn't been enlaved (or been the enslavers). Jews, Egyptians, Sumerians, Babylonians, Indians, Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Japanese, English, Irish, all have been slaves.
It's only a certain party of victimhood portraying American Blacks as the only people who were ever slaves.

I've read a few takes on the trial that say this is all good news for Samsung. If you accept that they copied then it's just cost them $1bn to become second in the market. And they're appealing that in any case. Their marketing budget alone is $3bn.
Meanwhile Microsoft "innovated" with Windows Phone and they're nowhere. Look where Palm and Nokia are. Following in Apple's footsteps was the smartest move.
And yes, do a bleeding decent Picard voice!
$1B, and what could turn into a permanent injunction against sales of some of its top-of-the-line products. That's a killer. Won't know until December, though.
Well, it's mostly last-generation stuff. But I imagine they still sell Galaxy S2s.
It's not going to kill Samsung or fundamentally hurt them in any way. And they'll be appealing this for years. I'd understand if the Galaxy S3 was affected but it's not.
I know I'd prefer to be in Samsung's position rather than say RIM.

Upvote for Picard saying patent.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
Could they not have at least had a go at the voices? All nerds worth their snuff should be able to do a Picard voice.
Picard gets his 3 weeks
Captain Kirk once beat up a Klingon with his bare hands.
Captain Picard had the balls to stand in a room full of Klingons and argue with them.
That is all.

... he would have karate chopped it into submission.
Kirk was an expert karate chopper. Could Picard karate chop? Didn't think so!
