Andrew Dice Clay's routine - Banned from cable TV for life

ChaosEngine says...

Pretty much this. Swearing can be really funny. Billy Connolly and Jim Jeffries are both excellent at swearing, but this just feels like the most boring boorish 80s humour.

It's just not that funny.

I never really got this whole thing. I mean I guess I get the swearing part of it, but he's no Lenny Bruce in terms of breaking down barriers. Nor is he as funny.

"If the word motherfucker stimulates you sexually you're in a lot of trouble"
-Lenny Bruce, decades before often-subtle sexual nursery rhymes

Although, maybe that's it. He wasn't as funny.

Jimmy Carr won this video by far.

Big fan of Jim Jeffries' comedy. He has a TV show called Legit premiering on FX in a couple of weeks.

Anyone know what that British show is that they had 2 clips of and looked like the stage of Whose Line is it Anyway? Looks like a show I might like to watch.

Jim Jeffries on God/Religion

Quboid says...

The bit from 0:25 to 0:38 is an interesting look at how religion is perceived. I'm sure this audience knew what they were getting into and only people who agreed would turn up, but the fact that he can say this and get that reaction is interesting. How recently would that have got him in trouble for blasphemy?

This routine isn't very tolerant or very nice, as is usual for Jim Jeffries, so although I agree with the points he makes, I could understand why a Christian would find this offensive. Presumably they would also find those earlier routines offensive too.

Louis C.K. on Evolution

Over-exposure. And you're doing it to yourself. Check out Patton Oswalt, Bill Burr, Jim Norton, Jamie Kilstein, Jim Jeffries, Brian Regan, Eugene Mirman, David Cross, Bob Kelly, John Mulaney, Michael Ian Black, Mike Birbiglia, etc.

I know you probably know most of these guys, but I just wanted to remind you that they exist...enjoy their comedy for a while. Sprinkle some Louis in there.

BTW, I started getting annoyed with Marc Maron. He comes off as a self-important sycophant to me. I think it's because he hates himself so much...>> ^kymbos:

I'm a bit sad to say I'm slowly falling out of love with Louis and Marc Maron. I'm not sure what to do about it.
Dave Chappelle, please start a twice weekly podcast, I'm begging you!

Jim Jefferies - Alcoholocaust - Religion

radx says...

*dead

That's actually from his "I Swear To God" gig, which has also been sifted here. Alcoholocaust includes his take on the 10 Commandments and how they can be condensed into "Try not to be a cunt.", not the panda routine.

Jim Jeffries on heaven and hell

Deadrisenmortal says...

Ahem, well...

Will we all die? Yes of course.
Do we know when it will happen? Very few do.
Does anyone truly know what happens when you die? Certainly not.
Is there anything that we can do to influence what happens after we die. Religious people seem to think so and worry about it incessantly. Atheists feel that we cannot and as a result tend not to worry about it.

From what I can see there are essentially two ways to view the subject, theistically or philosophically.
Theists will say that what we do before death determines what happens to us after death. I see this as the more selfish perspective on life. "Help other people and save yourself."

As for the philosophical view point...

"Death, the most awful of evils, is nothing to us, since when we are, death is absent, and, when death is present, we are not any more. It is nothing, then, either to the living or to the dead."
- Epicurus, 341-270

My advice: Stop worrying about what happens after you die and instead focus on the life that you have to live. Live it to the fullest and positively influence the world around you while you are here. Help others not for your own salvation but rather only for the sake of the act of kindness itself and the effect that it will have on others. Your true immortality will come from the legacy that you leave behind when you are gone.

>> ^Gallowflak:

Anyone who honestly doesn't care about death, or who isn't disturbed by the idea of their own intelligence and consciousness being permanently destroyed is either A: not aware of what that actually means, or B: alien enough to me that our differences are completely irreconcilable.
