I’ve had a few, from the ubiquitous grasshopper to a racing Kyoto 4wd. I remember the old speed controllers not being good at minimum power…a tiny bit of stick and you would hear the controller whine but no movement, a bit more it would shudder a bit but not move, a bit more and it would suddenly jump forward a few inches before I could pull power back to crawl. Tiny precise movement was difficult, at least for me. That was also over 30 years back.

NASA has been using both for over 50 years with success. A flame trench is a reinforced trench designed to redirect thrust horizontally away from ground infrastructure. A water curtain is exactly what it sounds like, a huge curtain of water dropped at ignition that absorbs the initial pressure/heat wave, also minimizing damage to ground infrastructure and lowering initial sound levels.

Why Elon decided he needed neither for the most powerful launch system ever is unfathomable. His launch pad is destroyed and this launch never even came close to 100% thrust. How many times does Elon have to totally screw the pooch as an engineer before they take his drafting table away? Many startups' claims can be debunked with high school physics, but they just present everything as-is and with good production value. Sadly calling bullshit when they claim converting electricity to heat is 100% efficient. Nothing is 100% efficient.
They also claim 98% efficiency “pulling the heat back out”…unbelievably high.
Noticeably missing were heat loss rates, both for capture and storage over time…both expected to be extremely high at temperatures of 1500C.

The second system boasting 80% efficiency (but why burning wood?) is more realistic, but the only 3% heat loss per day at 500C temperatures claim is not. No insulation I’ve ever heard of is that efficient.

Recycling industrial manufacturing heat seems smart, but I think they need to be honest up front about the real world expectations and uses. If it could cut the energy needed to bake limestone or melt steel in half, that’s great…please don’t imply it could cut it by anything approaching 97%. That makes me not trust it at all.

This has stretched out for so long that a few species of salmon the removal was supposed to save are no longer detected in the river. Multiple drought years and heat waves paired with mismanagement and neglect have spawned multiple full river toxic algae blooms making the water poisonous even for swimming, lots of dead dogs, lots of dead and sick wildlife, millions of dead fish.
It wouldn’t surprise anyone if new challenges to removal are started based on that alone, further delaying removal until all strains are gone.
20 years ago the Klamath was a world class salmon river, today it’s often closed to fishing even for native tribes that subsistence fish to survive.
I hardly consider another new projected project START date for the multi year 4 stage removal project to be “problem solved”. After that part is finished, massive river long restoration STARTS. If that can be successful at all, it takes decades and mountains of cash.

Firstly, there are many different methods for human composting, including just burial in a biodegradable box without preservatives. At cemeteries, plots might be slightly more expensive because they’re more spread out, but beyond that it’s the same cost as any burial.
But yes, I would absolutely pay the minor difference in cost to not waste resources (both my nutrients and the gas burnt). I have no heirs.
