The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America

psycop says...

Ok, I sat through the mostly flat increase in funding (against a backdrop of exponential inflation, meaning a real world decrease in funding) and thought, is this going somewhere?

Then I thought... ok, how many more comedy scare tactics are they going to use.

Then... then I got to 'Floride is the main ingredient in sarin nerve gas'. Yeah. I'm done.

You know what else is in Sarin gas? Carbon! We must cleanse our bodies of carbon, to protect our precious bodily fluids!

So, Genji, I saw Werner Herzog's new doc tonight. Cave of Forgotten Dreams. About a cave that was discovered in France in 1994 or so, with 35,000 year old cave paintings. Stunning.

The movie was a bit too much florid Herzog for my tastes, and I saw it in 2D and it was structured to be seen in 3D, but still. I learned something. The paintings look contemporary -- they are, well, stunning.

And I thought of you in the middle of this doc. Herzog went to a couple of museums to show other archeological works of the same time period.

One of the oldest artistic representations humans have is the Venus of Willendorf-type sculptures. You've seen them? The woman's fertile body, with tiny head, feet and hands, large belly, large thighs, large breasts, large labia. All about the fecundity. The first human image deemed important enough to sculpt.

The sculpture shown in the movie was apparently a pendant -- instead of a head, there was a ring on top for a cord or something to go through so it could be worn or held up.

And I thought -- hey, that's genji's avatar, minus the jello shot!!

I'm on the sift too much, man....

Fox News Dumbest Anti-Atheist Question of the Month?

Crosswords says...

To answer his second question, it sounds like a good idea in theory, but I think the reality of the situation is instead of a public forum for mindful important debate it degenerates into lunatics ranting about damnation or the government putting florid in the drinking water. I'm not against public forums, just unavoidably public forums.

It's not about freaks like me calling foul.
It's really about cash money.

Floride is big business and we've invested in the myth of floride ever since the Manhattan project. Why the manhattan project? Well, besides floride being a byproduct of aluminum smelting, not to mention teflon/and florocarbons(refrigeration medium) which are now: HCFCs or HFCs. Floride was also a large byproduct of uranium enrichment.

I challenge anyone to find a website which says: "floride is safe." It's a moot point.

Tony Blair wants to bring Fluoride in the Water- CRAP

sirex says...

in the uk 10% of the population already recieve floride in the water, including birmingham.

dont see what the big deal is. Either way, this guy is an idiot. The arguments he's using are totally illogical.

i'd rather had the floride and be like the rest of the world than be like this guy. Not that it matters as we're looking to move to new zealand who have had floridation for 50 years.

edit: and i dont support labour either.
