Fire The Catzooka
Fish tanks are fine if they're made from the same glass as the bear exhibit at the Minnesota Zoo, those are only susceptible to bears carrying large rocks. If we're talking Doom, I don't know about a Catzooka, but there was a Chicken Launcher.
Nonsense.
Fish tanks would be DOOMED.
Helpful raccoon washes your things
I said they can feel more when dousing. The racoon is simply examining the items.
"Their paws contain highly developed nerves, and the water actually makes their paws more sensitive.
"Dabbling behavior in water is a fixed motor pattern in raccoons. Since only captive raccoons exhibit food-dousing behavior, scientists believe that washing food is simply a substitute for normal dabbling behavior, which has no other outlet in captivity,"
http://www.sungazette.com/page/content.detail/id/564573.html
Feeling things underwater is what they do. Why do you imagine the owners have supplied the racoon with a water bowl full of toys? It is to occupy its attention.
But the Wikipedia paragraph you quote speaks only of them washing their food, not every single item they come across.
Maybe those owners have not been feeding it, or maybe it thinks it's an 'Apple' phone (Apple phones aren't waterproof so that makes it easy to identify them even (especially?) if you're a raccoon).
Uh oh! Llyod's figured out modern art
I have been saying this for years.
I remember at my grad exhibition in Art School, I did this one painting, which took my about 150 hours to create, (http://www3.telus.net/Nickel/links/400/paintings/lynettandjoanne_400.jpg).
or: http://www3.telus.net/Nickel/links/400/paintings/lynetteandjoanne_detail_400.jpg
And this other classmate, made wax molds of toast, laid a few in the center of the floor in a room, and called it an "Installation.
Now, I was supposed to "OOOO" and "AHHH" over her work, but her and her friends, were rallying against my painting, calling it trash and no point. If had wanted to make something realistic, then I should have been a photographer..., I was wasting my time.
Moral of the story: My piece sold, hers didn't.

release us-a short film on police brutality by charles shaw
You said Eric Holder can get it (ending racism in the police) done. What else could that mean besides this one democrat heading a federal agency is expected to have abilities never exhibited by any human before him? EDIT: ...and he's expected to do this during a period of political obstructivism and discord that's halted progress on nearly every issue at hand.
Kind of. Most laws are actually written by lobbies, and voted in by our 'representatives' (that don't represent us on any side, but represent the lobbies instead). Some few states have 'ballot initiatives' that allow direct voting on issues, but I think most don't.
(As an aside, I wish we would follow what I've read was the original draft of the constitution that 11-12 of 13 colonies ratified, but was discarded in favor of the one we follow today, which said clearly that lawyers can't hold public office outside the courtroom).
Common sense says if you are non-criminal only 99% of the time, you are criminal 1%, so at least once per day if not more often. If you don't understand that, or wish to continue to ignore it, you are insane or severely learning deficient. You can't even argue against that reality, so you turn to personal insults....so by your own rules, you loose.
I'm describing personal experience and long standing repeating investigations showing the same thing. When you're theory has been proven right, you are no longer a 'conspiracy theorist'. I didn't come to my conclusion until long after it had been proven true in many many cases (not all).
Yes, easy, and you would think that would matter, sadly not. It happened here in N Cal. 3-5 years ago, white kid even. No question the kid was shot in the back, and had no weapon, but the cop claimed he 'thought' he saw a weapon and feared for his life, and that the kid had quickly turned away right as he shot, and that's pretty much where it ended. Not the first stupid unarmed kid shot here, won't be the last with that outcome.
Paragraph by paragraph:
Ok, your first paragraph doesn't make sense. Re-read what I wrote.
The vast majority of laws are written by lawyers voted into office by citizens. Your assertion is a stretch by any measure.
The only way I can be insane is by continuing to think you may be influenced by common sense. That remains to be seen.
Now you're starting to sound like a conspiracy theorist. Is that you?
If a cop shoots an unarmed kid in the back, wouldn't that be very easy to prove? I think so. Perhaps your conspiracy gene is more prevalent than I thought.
Awkward public aquarium "touch tank"
From teh Interwebs in case you're thinking the octopus is being abused:
SEATTLE (Reuters) - A giant male octopus caught on cell phone video scaling his glass display tank at the Seattle Aquarium and reaching several tentacles over its open top has sparked Internet speculation that the massive mollusk was trying to mount an escape bid.
But aquarium officials say the octopus, named Ink, was not attempting a jailbreak in the video, which has gone viral on the Internet, but simply learning to embrace his new home with all eight arms.
"It was not an escape attempt," aquarium spokesman Tim Kuniholm said of the video, in which Ink inched his way up the cylindrical glass tank to squeals from onlookers. "It's a new exhibit and the animal was exploring his boundaries."
A Seattle aquarium employee later put Ink's arms back inside the case, and a so-called "evening cap" was fastened on top to help keep the curious fellow in place, Kuniholm said.
"Octopuses are very inquisitive by nature, and in this case ... Ink is an overachiever," he said.
Ink is one of two new giant Pacific octopuses on display at the aquarium. Found in Puget Sound, they are the world's largest species of octopuses, weighing on average about 90 pounds (41 kg) and measuring 20 feet (6.1 meters) across.
Kuniholm said the two male octopuses are kept in separate homes at the aquarium because the species is solitary by nature, with males and females coming together only to mate during their short 3-to-4-year lifespan.
In the next year, Ink will be released back into the wild as part of an ongoing education and conservation program for the species, the aquarium said.

Incredibly precise archer ... in slow motion
I imagine not much, because he isn't making any outlandish claims. He is doing, by his own claim, "exhibition shooting" meaning trick shooting. He's doing some very precise skill trickshots and doing them extremely well. He's not claiming to have rediscovered some long lost art, or that his shooting is the One True Way(tm).
In particular you'll notice that he is shooting at targets thrown more or less straight up at a reasonably close distance, presumably of his choosing. Between an amazing innate ability and presumably tons of practice, he can pull off amazing shots. However he's not claiming he can do it from horseback, or that ancient archers did this shit all the time.
He claims to be a top notch exhibition shooter that can hit virtually anything you throw, and indeed he is and can.
Nice. Let's see what the archer lady has to say about this guy now.
school of life-what comes after religion?
Please read again...and write again, reading what you write before submitting. I can't follow your first paragraph. What little I can understand completely ignores what I wrote and makes stuff up to argue against.
I didn't say atheists have a monopoly on morality, I said morality doesn't come from religions, and atheists are more moral than religious people. I gave clear statistics about criminal behavior to prove my point.
EDIT:It seems you are saying if it's not religious in origin, the only thing left is political affiliation!? OMFG! That's so wrong I don't know where to start, I hope I just misunderstand you.
Reading/writing comprehension matters.
read my last paragraph in the post above...you exhibit those symptoms.
The answer to all your demographic questions, the religious group.
Religious 'morality' allows for murder, rape, and slavery of the non devout, and so is more responsible for the decline, and for many of the schisms in society.
You watch too much fox news, liberals don't 'control all major media and schools'. "Conservatives" (which are not conservative, they want to be more 'progressive' than liberals by "going back" to a time that never existed) never shut up pushing their insane, debunked ideas day and night. Their morality supports slavery and rape and wage disparity so disastrous that it may lead to class warfare. (how you treat the least of your brethren...etc.)
(EDIT: also investigate the saying 'eat the rich'-Jean-Jacques Rousseau )
More abortions for Christians than atheists, they can't be seen haveing out of wedlock children and many can't use birth control.
Abstinence only sex-ed actually promotes pre-marital sex (if you look at the results).
Christians have more adulterous affairs... for entertainment, and more divorce too.
Religious 'morality' is all 'morality decided by self'. (You don't stone non Christians or people who work on Sunday, do you? If not, you absolutely don't take your morality from the bible.)
Religion totally enslaves the poor.
Any other fallacies you need me to destroy?
Really, your hanging your morality hat on atheists. Ok lets buy you argument its not Christians or atheists ( 10% population and you hang you hat on it.) for this morality issue. Then what all is really left is ideology. at that point there are only real 2 types those who are conservatives and those who are liberals.
Which demographic is more at fault for this morality decline?
Which ideological group is more responsible for the decline.
The liberals control all major media,(news and entertainment) schools ,( local and universities). They push their liberal ideas day in and out.
Which group promotes abortions ( murder)?
Which group promotes pre marital sex?
Which group routinely promoted adulterous affairs as entertaining?
Which group promotes "morality decided by self"
Which group promotes enslaving the poor?
school of life-what comes after religion?
i think some here are missing the point of this short video.
while we can all argue the particulars of religion,it's failings and its successes, the fundamental reasons for its existence remains.
the militant atheist will argue holy text with the very same literalism that a fundamentalist exhibits, all the while ignoring the massive contributions to humanity in the realms of:art, philosophy, politics and even science.
while this dynamic of the argument is not necessarily wrong,it is,however, inaccurate.one cannot ignore, nor dismiss the positive contributions of religions, which have been legion.this does not mean that religion is above reproach nor criticism, just that a militants argument is incomplete without acknowledging this vital facet of human history.
the problem gentlemen,is fundamentalism,of ANY flavor.
religion is not going anywhere, much to the chagrin of atheists, but the reasons why humanity gravitates towards religion,or a search for the divine and sacred, remain a very powerful influence.
religion must, and has over the centuries, evolve to incorporate the paradigms that are added daily.the religion that is rigid in its interpretations and implaccable in its philosophy...dies.human history is littered with the remains of lost religions that refused to evolve with humanity.
a good example is the dark ages.which was partially perpetrated by a rigid understanding of christian theology (and an abuse of power and authority)affecting millions.it halted human progress and imposed a suffering and misery that is still remembered to this day.then the church experienced a philisophical shift and the reformation was exacted, ending the dark ages and introducing the 'age of enlightenment"...and human progress was allowed to proceed.
interestingly enough, while this was all happening in europe and human misery was a direct result of religious rigidity, the muslims were carrying the torch for human progress.making such additions as algebra and other huge strides in the sciences.
how is that for irony?
fundamentalism,in any form, must be fought at every level.so on that note i tend to side with atheists who are on a constant vigil in revealing the utter hypocrisy of a fundamentalist theosophy, but i will not ignore the wonderful and fantastic contributions that religion has added to human history.
because the fundamental reason why humanity gravitates toward religion is still there and it is not going anywhere.so religion, like man, must evolve to encompass the new paradigm in order to express our humanity, inspiration and awe in the face of the divine.
i am not an overly religious man.
that form of theosophy is not my path, but i recognize the importance of religion and its positive contributions.the challenge is to allow the more archaic and atrophied theosophy to fall away and dissolve like a vestigal limb.keep the parts that inspire and exalt humanity and allow the unnecessary and irrelevant to die with dignity,to become a footnote in our history.
which is what i gathered this video was attempting to convey and why i found it interesting.
@shinyblurry
thanks for the link buddy, now i am depressed.
@bobknight33
please do not take offense when i say:your last comment is so riddled with contradictions, fallacies and outright ignorance in the understandings of -religious history, politics and philosophy that i cannot even begin to address a singular point.that comment is just one big mess.
i will say this in regards to your comment.
to assert that atheists have no moral compass due to their lack of faith and/or religion is just patently bullshit.unless of course, you secretly wish to murder, steal and bang your neighbors wife and the ONLY thing keeping you from acting out is your fear of god.
or hell..whatever..judgement.
do you see what a facile and inept argument that is? morality is inherent to each individual.we all develop our own moral code.now religion can help clarify that moral code, but if you take religion away? we still will all have a moral code we live by.
we also rationalize.
ah..now there is something we humans excel at..rationalizing.or better put:lying to ourselves in order to justify poor behavior.here is where the atheist and the religious diverge.because the atheist has no holy text to twist and manipulate in order to justify that poor behavior, they have to own it and take responsibility.the religious person, however, can abdicate responsibility onto an ancient text based solely on their own interpretation (or some authority they have given power).human history is burdened with the mass graves of such justifications.
ok..i am rambling.
i love this subject and rarely get to engage in discussions such as this.if you have made it this far..i thank you for your kind patience with my own proclivities towards verbosity.

MMA Fighter Destroys Internet Troll In Gym
True enough, it didn't take MUCH skill this time, but The Dentist exhibits skill near every time he fights, including this time. It takes skill to annihilate someone 100lbs and 6+ inches bigger than you.
If it bugs you, I'll go ahead and remove it. I though it was skillful fighting, but I really don't care.
EDIT: I do find it funny that no one has an issue with it being education!
I don't see skillful in this... just the final 3 seconds of some guy getting beat up... where is the rest of the fight? Where is the skill?

Much thanks.
What makes something right or wrong? Narrated by Stephen Fry
"teaches right behavior"....
Do you mean like owning slaves, murdering infidels and heretics, raping women, crusading, inquisitioning, conquesting, etc.... Yeah, great book of morality, and wonderful moral behavior exhibited by it's believers...not.
It's only because people fail to follow the religious ideas wholly that religion is tolerated at all. If people acted like the fanatical Muslims, taking every word as law and acting on it, Christianity would have been outlawed in the US at the inception of the country (indeed, many of the founding fathers seemed to want this, at least in part). The 3 major western religions all require 'holy war' to spread the belief system if read honestly.
What he said is that only psychotics need religion to restrain them from immorality. If you aren't psychotic, religion harms you more than helps you.
Any catholic hospital would qualify as one opened by psychotics, since one of their 10 important rules is "no statues of anything", yet they do nothing but worship statues and icons. They institutionally ignore any 'rule' that's inconvenient, and insist on absolute adherence to any that further their current goals, which may change 180 deg tomorrow. Sure sounds psychotic to me.
Awful lot of hospitals named after saints, as well as a large number of schools. Religion teaches empathy for other people, it teaches right behavior, it teaches the ten commandments, it teaches the golden rule.
Just because people fail to follow those ideas wholly you condemn everyone who believes in any of it.
To replace it you bring in some philosophical sophistry that has nothing to back it up unless it is to say that there is a spark of Godliness behind it all.
It is good that we can agree that people have an innate sense toward empathy but it's an empty box.
All you have to say is that psychotics are restrained by religion, ipso facto, anyone who believes in God is a psychotic.
I don't know too many psychotics who open hospitals, care for the sick/infirm/dying, educate the masses.
