What's the big diff between Club Feb & Mar-a-Lago anyway? People like Trump gets special treatment there and it'll be like a vacation that the likes of Madoff & Stewart get to enjoy. Trump loves prison food anyway, and endless TV! He gets time away from his miserable family so that's a plus for him!

Olivia Colman -- Every Actor's Nightmare Come True

cloudballoon says...

That's why Olivia Colman deserves far more love on the American side. Personally I love seeing Colman, Dench, Mirren over Streep anytime, not that I don't love Streep too, but they're on a diff lvl.

Am I missing something here? I always thought memorials were supposed to be sad or solemn. To @noims point of humor, I don't see any attempt at humor here. Just a low budget float without an art director.

Speaking of dark humor though, it's not as though the Kawani's are doing their thing with their go carts dressed up as 747 planes pretending to crash into the float.

I ask genuinely, why are the tortured figures in the holocaust memorials not being derided as "celebrating their torture" ?

How is depicting a wounded person different than a wounded building in terms of war memorial creation?
(not the diff btween a building and a person) just the bit about why it's suddenly offensive to show something that was attacked.

Australia's Military Defense Policy Explained

cloudballoon says...

You have to take into account of the population difference (AUS ~25.6 mil vs USA. ~328.5mil), standard of living, GDP, taxation, etc. etc. to make a fair comparison. Going by a straight currency exchange & population diff. of 1 AUD = ~ .73 USD, a very generalized equivalent would be about asking a 3.7~3.8 trillion war chest budget for the USA.

if the USA war machine could be satiated by only $400B USA could have so much excess for internal spending, and/or lower taxes and refunds, and/or no inflation, and/or less terrorism, and on and on and on.

Trump Publicly Suggests Postponing The Election

luxintenebris jokingly says...

we would be president-less. which would be un-president-ed

the loss of senators also. looks like the GOP is serious about smaller government. donnie alone is a near 300lb weight loss.

but what is the diff between absentee and mail-in voting? our state automatically registers a driver's license holder and is mailing out ballots. damn proud of that.

don is gone. may he disappear along with virus.

I'm going to take this as pure 'dead cat on the table' distraction. The constitution is clear that unless he's explicitly re-elected, the president is out of the white house come January (according to the *related=https://videosift.com/video/Can-the-President-Cancel-The-Election-What-Would-Happen).

Rope Start a Car With a Dead Battery

newtboy says...

Yes, one wheel.
Because he has a car with a differential and the other wheel is stationary, all the rotational energy goes to the transmission, clutch, then flywheel, then crankshaft. By putting it in low gear, he gains enough mechanical advantage to spin the motor past top dead center on a cylinder and has enough battery power left to get a spark (i think he doesn't spin it fast enough to generate one), and once one cylinder fires, it spins itself up to proper rpms.
This only works on open diffs, manual transmissions, and smaller, low compression motors. You could never pull hard enough to start a big v8 like this unless your name is Magnus.

toferyu said:

Interesting.
Did he lift only one front wheel ?
If so how could that work, if not how does he lift both front wheels at the same time ?

Griffin and Nick make Tony Hawk... but with Trucks

How much each everyone working on a film makes

HenningKO says...

Yeah that was weird, they had the big block of "Digital Artists" (which could mean anything, including lighters, modelers, animators, compositors) at 20K a pop, and then later 3 "CG Artists", 3 "Modelers", 3 "Animators" making about a million each.
What's the diff? I'm an animator, by the way, and I couldn't tell ya...

kir_mokum said:

no modeller, animator, FX artist, or "CG artist" (whatever that is) is making anywhere near a million per project.

Another Tree Felling Fail

Payback says...

When you tie that far up in the air, the net force is pulling the truck's ass end up in the air, losing traction. Then, adding on the fact the numbnuts didn't have the front diff engaged (assuming he's not one of those weirdos who puts a lift kit on a 2WD), the truck was there for no reason whatsoever.

Should have tied off a pulley to one of those trees to the right and brought the truck directly at the camera.

Libertarian Atheist vs. Statist Atheist

VoodooV says...

The original video attacked the ideology. this guy attacked the person and made it personal. Big diff.

again we're seeing more tearing down of the existing system and no building up of your system. It's a huge strawman. No one says gov't is perfect. We just went through a large wave of criticizing problems with the police. we are quite aware of the many flaws.

Even Lantern's obsessive defense of the cops is far more rational and understandable than advocating complete removal of the police force and disbanding gov't

As for the Ayn Rand thing, another strawman. I never brought up Objectivism. Ayn Rand hates gov't. non-statists hate gov't. it's pretty easy to see how they're linked. taking benefits from something you despise isn't very cool. If she were so principled, she would have left gov't altogether and never paid into it. She also tried to hide taking the benefits by doing so under her husband's name if I recall correctly.

blankfist said:

@VoodooV: "where he attacked the other guy"

Wasn't like the other guy wasn't on the attack. That being said, I don't personally agree with how he handled this, but I did find it amusing. Also, it's not like he was wrong in any of his points. Attack the substance of his argument.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Drones

lantern53 says...

We have boots on the ground in Waziristan, pakistan and Yemen?

What diff does it make to you if it's a missile off an unmanned aircraft or a missile off a manned aircraft?

Drones are looking where there are no other assets. They see a guy planting an IED, they can take care of it right then. But I would imagine the process involves intelligence-gathering, a target, then a trip to the WH to get approval.

I don't believe Obama is just sticking a pin in a map, unless it involves golf courses he hasn't yet played.

Now, if you want to say you don't trust Obama to do the right thing...that we can agree on.

Garfunkel and Oates "The Fade Away"

eric3579 says...

We've been on a bunch of dates
I weigh debates that this creates
And hate that state of forced introspection
We traded wit, we swapped some spit,
You fingered me a little bit
But we never really had a connection

You did nothing wrong, I have no excuse
Just my intuition telling me we shouldn't reproduce

I know I have to end it
But pretend to just suspend it
By contending that I'm busy all week
I let the foregone linger on
Text back with an emoticon
Withdraw from you by being oblique

Inside I know my tactics just delay it
But I'd do anything so I don't have to say it

I'll draw this out forever like it's Vietnam
Then one day I'll be gone like Bambi's mom Awww

Cause there's the right thing to do
Then there's what I'm gonna do
There's so much I should say
But instead... I do the fade away

Now I'm fading like chalk on a sidewalk
Or the polio virus after Jonas Salk
Like a Jewish guy at Sizzler on Yom Kippur
The Whig party post Millard Fillmore

The erection of a man on antidepressants
The cast of Diff'rent Strokes after adolescence
Reproductive rights below the Mason Dixon
Native Americans after the barter systems
Your thyroid gland after Hashimoto
The family in the Back to the Future photo
Yeah I fade away

We say that men are asshole who don't communicate
We revel in our victimhood and amplify our hate
We find ways to be indignant like it's a sport
Then dissect their malignance with the views we distort

The way men break up may be sloppy and terse
What they do is bad, but what we do is worse

We pretend to ourselves it's the nice thing to do
To let you down gently by just not ever telling you
And deep down we know it's the worst way to play it
But we are what we have... huge pussies

And women are hypocrites
Especially ones in comedy bands
We see your faults but not our own
Then we wonder why we're all alone

We fill you up with maybe's, excuses and stalls
But like a baby in China... it's better to have balls

Not the Good Wife type like Christine Baranski
So I'll pull out and leave like I'm Roman Polanski

Cause there's the right thing to do
Then there's what I'm gonna do
There's so much I should say
But instead... I do the fade away

Like Verbal Kint fading into Kaiser Soze
The rights in Arizona for a guy named Jose
Opportunities for a college grad
The love between your mom and dad
Gonna Peter out like a gay Cetera
Iranian relations since the Regan era
Black Nike sales after Heaven's Gate
Summer Camp attendance at Penn State
The name Adolph after World War Two
Like Debbie Gibson's pop career, Out of the Blue
Yeah I fade away

Cause I don't wanna get to know you
I just want to blow you... off
