Devil's Advocate; How Pacino Would Type

The Big Lebowski: The Duding short version

Movie Review: No Country For Old Men (Blog Entry by smibbo)

The movie, imho, was the best of the year (sorry, Sarzy). I share the opinion of others that the assassin played by Javier Bardem was bloodcurdling terrifying- the most relentless, unstoppable killer since the first Terminator film.

The Coen's have made some of my favorite films. Among them The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Miller's Crossing and the overlooked Man Who Wasn't There. This film stands above all of the others- though The Big Lebowski holds a special place in my heart as a personal favorite.

Also, a note about the book- the movie is almost a perfect adaptation, right down to the "feeling" the viewer or reader develops. There is no further elaboration on the motivations of the characters, nor is the ending less esoteric. I saw the movie first and read the book over the Christmas holidays- loved it. Interesting that there is almost no punctuation in the novel... no quotations for dialogue, no commas in the text. Only the occasional period. It worked.

You get so sick of this song by the end of the movie. Sort of like Charle's Bronson's harmonica tune in Once Upon a Time in the West, or "A Woman Like You" by the end of The Big Lebowski (used five different times in the movie).

The Big Lebowski + "Brass Monkey"

About The Big Lebowski, yes I agree, brilliant film. However they way overused that "A woman like you... lalalala" song. They play it at about six different times during the film (or more). I got pretty sick of it the last time I watched the movie, although I still really enjoyed the flick.

The Big Lebowski + "Brass Monkey"

A terrible terrible song. Even when I was ten years old and License to Ill was brand new, I could have told you this was the worst song on that album. May I also ask, is there even the slightest strand of correlation between Brass Monkey and The Big Lebowski? What is the POINT of this post!?

Man I wish I could downvote this!

I hate the "comment" attachments that Grouper allows. It would be a great feature if the vid comments related to the primary video (i.e. demonstration of pinsetting in the 50s or clips from the Big Lebowski).

As it stands, it is a haven of nonsense for any dork with a digital video cam.

CopWatch - documentary on community police oversight

Look folks, we have a civil society. Go change city hall if you have a problem with the way police are doing their jobs. You absolutely have a right to go change city hall. But harrassing police while they're doing their jobs is just juvenile and shows a contempt for your fellow citizens and society. Getting together and commisserating about your warped stereotypes of police officers won't get you far.

Somehow, perhaps because it's late, it reminds me of a great scene (wait, every scene is a great scene) from the Big Lebowski.

"Malibu Police Chief: Mr. Treehorn draws a lot of water in this town, Lebowski. You don't draw shit. We got a nice quiet beach community here, and I aim to keep it nice and quiet. So let me make something plain. I don't like you sucking around bothering our citizens, Lebowski. I don't like your jerk-off name, I don't like your jerk-off face, I don't like your jerk-off behavior, and I don't like you, jerk-off -- do I make myself clear?"

The new 'not really racist' Sheriff of St. Tammany Parish

tooley says...

It sounds like the clip started a fair bit into the interview, and there certainly was more context than we're given. If his only point was that nonproductive slackards from NO were going to be given the stiff treatment in a town where people tend to be normal (working) citizens, then I fail to see the racism. Sounds like a very chill version of the police captain character from Big Lebowski.
