Google Adds Voting and Commenting to Search Results?
I haven't heard or read anything about it, but I just performed a google search and I was shocked to see three new little icons next to each search result.
One of them says "promote" which I guess adds to its credibility, another says "remove" which I guess flags a page as being no good, and the third says "comment" and when clicked pops open a text entry box for you to add a comment.
Anyone know anything about this business?
Whoa...

You patented the Sift mechanism so you can get royalties now, right?
If not, call the riot police, there's trouble down on 12th street!

seems it only affects your own results, not the whole googles. interesting.

i wonder what would happen on here if we did the same thing, a page on the sift magically filtered according to the channels and titles of YOUR previous upvotes, not everybody elses.
because the big problem i have with voting in general is the feedback loop. at least if it was my personal feedback loop it wouldn't have lolcats in it, and it would be possible to implement without changing the rest of the site, right?

hi lucky, any word?
That's a very interesting idea, mink. I'd love to implement something like that but it's too heavy weight for performing searches like that because every video would have to be cross-referenced with every vote (of which there are millions).
Maybe some day we can conceive of some kind of algorithm that could accomplish something like that efficiently.
something like a personal tag cloud of the most common words in tags and titles that you upvoted, updated each time you upvote.
then the ability to sort videos by "personal preference" would be possible, pushing similar videos to the top of your personal page.
i am not sure of the server load implications though.
You know, we HAD a tag cloud... what happened to that?
